BlackRhino is a free Debian-based GNU/Linux software distribution for the Sony PlayStation 2. It contains over 1,200 software packages to aid in using and creating programs for the Sony PlayStation 2 Linux kit.

The programs range in functionality from simple games, to text editors, compilers, web servers, windowing systems, database systems, graphics packages, mail servers and a variety of other tools and utilities.

The software distribution was created by xRhino for a commercial Sony PlayStation 2 title. It is released in the hopes that the distribution will help hobbyists create their own games and applications that utilize the advanced programmable hardware of the PS2.

If you are like many computer users, you would frequently like to make changes in various text files wherever certain patterns appear, or extract data from parts of certain lines while discarding the rest.

To write a program to do this in a language such as C or Pascal is a time-consuming inconvenience that may take many lines of code. The job is easy with awk, especially the GNU implementation: gawk.

The awk utility interprets a special-purpose programming language that makes it possible to handle simple data-reformatting jobs with just a few lines of code.

GNU lightning is a library that generates assembly language code at run-time; it is very fast, making it ideal for Just-In-Time compilers, and it abstracts over the target CPU, as it exposes to the clients a standardized RISC instruction set inspired by the MIPS and SPARC chips.

GNU lightning 1.0 has been released and is usable in complex code generation tasks. The available backends cover the x86, SPARC and PowerPC architectures; the floating point interface is still experimental though, and developed for the x86 only.

There is also interested in adding more high-level features to lightning, such as a BURG-style tool, a tool to simplify the porting and make it less tedious (for example interfacing with Red Hats CGEN tool) or a standardized library to synthesize instruction sequences such as multiplications as shifts and adds, or divisions as multiplication by the inverse.

GNU Anubis is an SMTP message submission daemon. It represents an intermediate layer between mail user agent (MUA) and mail transport agent (MTA), receiving messages from the MUA, applying to them a set of predefined changes and finally inserting modified messages into an MTA routing network.

The set of changes applied to a message is configurable on a system-wide and per-user basis. The built-in configuration language used for defining sets of changes allows for considerable flexibility and is easily extensible.

Installation:

Copy the gnu-hylafax-0.0.8.jar file (located in the lib directory)
to your usual installation directory for Java archives.

To use gnu.hylafax, you will need to include it in your classpath setting. Typically this is done by adding an entry to your CLASSPATH variable setting with the full path to the JAR file, e.g.

GNU libxmi is a C/C++ function library for rasterizing 2-D vector graphics. GNU libxmi can draw 2-D graphical primitives, including wide polygonal lines and circular and elliptical arcs, into a user-supplied matrix of pixels. Sophisticated line styles, such as multicolored dashing patterns, can be specified. There is also support for filling and texturing polygons.

The current version of the libxmi package is version 1.2, released in June 2000. It can be installed on GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, and Unix systems. Since libxmi is written in ANSI C, it should be easy to compile and install on almost any system with a C compiler.

What is libxmi good for?

It can be used as a drop-in rendering module in any application that needs to scan-convert 2-D vector graphics. It is highly customizable. For example, the `pixel datatype can be redefined at compile time. The algorithm used for compositing pixels can be redefined too. By default, libxmi uses the Painters Algorithm (a new pixel value replaces an old one). But it would be trivial to install it so that it uses alpha compositing instead.
