Xplns 3.3.1
Xplns is an astronomy simulation. more>>
Xplns reproduces real starry sky on your display of X Window System. It calculates the position of many celestial objects (stars, galaxies, nebulae, constellations, planets, comets, etc.) very accurately.
You can enjoy the past and future sky on the desk top as if you have traveled all around the world. In solar system projection mode, you can examine motion of solar objects.
You can observe motion of the stars with tracking an object. The information display function let you know the rise, set and meridian time of solar objects, when dusk ends, when dawn starts, moon age, etc.
These functions are helpful for observing stars under the real sky. There are fourteen projection mode in xplns, "Horizontal View Mode", "Equatorial Mode", "Ecliptic Mode", "Galactic Mode", "Planisphere Mode" and "Solar System Mode".
Main features:
- Fourteen projection mode (Horizontal, Equatorial, Planisphere, Solar System, Planisphere mode, etc.).
- Display stars, nebulae, galaxies, planets, sun, moon, comets, minor planets, galilean satellites, etc.
- In addition to standard star catalog (up to magnitude 6.5), SAO star catalog and guide star catalog (GSC) supported.
- Display function of name of the constellations, planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies, etc.
- Magnified figure of planets.
- Grid of equatorial coordinates, ecliptic coordinates, horizontal coordinates, etc.
- Motional display of stars with continuous or real-time drive.
- Display function of Rise, set, meridian time of solar objects, moon age.
- Images of celestial objects.
Environment
- Linux 2.4 with libc5(ELF), glibc 2.1, 2.2 or 2.3 on i386
- FreeBSD 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.8 on i386

Messiggy 0.5.0
Messiggy is a software that contains database of celestial objects. more>>
Messiggy is a software that contains database of celestial objects, as cataloged by the French astronomer Charles Messier in the mid-18th century.
Messeir was a comet hunter, and the objects in his list -- galaxies, nebulae, and star clusters -- were often mistaken for comets by astronomers of his time. Messiers list contains many of the most beautiful objects in the heavens.
From the glorius Andromeda galaxy to the wispy delights of the Trifid Nebula, these celestial visions are often part of the "Messier Marathon", a personal contest to view all 110 objects in a single night.
This version of Messiggy is a beta release. Select an object from the main panel, and the program will display an informational window describing the object. Future versions will include:
Annotations
Annotations attach observation notes and images (yours, or someone elses) to a Messier Object.
Star Charts
Future versions of Messigy will plot several types of star charts.
Marathon tracker
A tool for organizing and recording a Messier Marathon.
Internationalization
The final releases of Messiggy will support interfaces in languages other than English. Given the talents of my lovely wife, the initial version will likely include a Spanish translation.
As always, Im open to suggestions.

Epiar 0.6.0 RC2
Epiar is a space combat/adventure game. more>>
Epiar is a space combat/adventure game.
Epiar is a space trading/combat role playing game for Linux, Windows and FreeBSD. It is released under the GPL and is written in a modular fashion so you can create your own scenarios, ships, upgrades, and more!
It is very stable despite the version number, which merely represents the progress of original features implemented. Completely free, driven by code from the Epiar development team and artwork from Epiar players.
In Epiar, you begin as a shuttle pilot in a galaxy generally ruled by anarchy, with few stable governments and numerous rebel factions. You start your adventure off doing whatever you want, but generally trying to save up money for a new starship, and your adventure takes off from there ...

Celestia 1.4.1
Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions. more>>
Celestia is a free real-time space simulation that lets you experience our universe in three dimensions.
Unlike most planetarium software, Celestia doesnt confine you to the surface of the Earth. You can travel throughout the solar system, to any of over 100,000 stars, or even beyond the galaxy.
All movement in Celestia is seamless; the exponential zoom feature lets you explore space across a huge range of scales, from galaxy clusters down to spacecraft only a few meters across. A point-and-goto interface makes it simple to navigate through the universe to the object you want to visit.
Celestia is expandable. Celestia comes with a large catalog of stars, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and spacecraft. If thats not enough, you can download dozens of easy to install add-ons with more objects.
Enhancements:
- This version is a mostly a bugfix release for the Celestia Engine.
- The GTK/GNOME front-ends feature a new slash screen.
- The install was cleaned up and packages should now be several megabytes smaller.

SlackFire 0.44.2
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy. more>>
SlackFire is an iptables script written especially for Slackware, my favourite Linux distribution in this corner of the Galaxy.
SlackFires main purpose is to protect a stand-alone machine or a small network with a stateful firewall that can be configured easily but in big detail.
Why another iptables script? There are a lot in the Internet, many of them with pretty nice GUI!
First of all, I didnt want to have a firewall that I only could manage and configure via GUI.
Next, I needed to work with a LAN with machines having routable IP addresses. Quite a few scripts available in the Net supported this feature.
Even lesser number of scripts supported configuration of fine-tuned rules. The majority of them just allowed all outgoing connections permitting replies to go back. I wanted to restrict outgoing traffic, too.
I also wanted that configuration can be performed without touching the main script and that this could be done by a person with very little knowledge about iptables.
Thus, I found it easier to write a script of my own than to tune a script written by somebody else.
Version restrictions:
- Currently, SF protects at most two network devices. All other network devices are not affected by the firewall in case packets are sent directly to the box running SF. Forwarded packets are dropped though. (The latter behaviour can be easily fixed.)
- I havent tried SF at machines that use DHCP. I expect that some tuning may be needed, especially in case the script is installed on a DHCP server.
- SF has only been tested on machines running Slackware >=9.0 with C locale. Certain things can break if messages produced by ifconfig and iptables use other languages than English. (This can be easily fixed if needed.)
- There is no support for NFS through a protected network interface yet. This will be fixed.
- Support of FreeS/WAN is not implemented.
There are undoubtedly more, partially because netfilter provides an incredibly rich range of possibilities. Actually, I havent seen an iptables script in the Internet with all the iptables possibilities implemented.
Enhancements:
- A minor change was made in bash syntax when proceeding configuration files.
- Temporary files are now created using mktemp.

The information can be accessed either via a SOAP Document/Literal Style Web Service or a simple XML-Request/Response structure.
A free download and license is available as also a free Eclipse Plugin that lets you implement the data into your business application.
The data is secured by userid / role permissions. The WSDL for the Web Service can be public or private so you decide who accesses your data.
Data consistency over platforms is provided by an independency layer that makes it easy to migrate the underlying data to another source.
SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is a service to provide Data access. This section explains the features that are already available in SAGA.M31 - Galaxy -. No future selling, but real information. The Functionality of SAGA.M31 - Galaxy - is strong oriented to provide access to the most important Information sources without any programming knowledge.
This separates the business logic from the data access logic and helps to improve performance by having database experts building the data structure and definition and application programmer focussing on the business logic.
Because we permanently enhance the feature sets, we ask you to visit this site regular. As an alternate option you can use our RSS Feed to be informed automatically. Subscribing to our newsletter is very welcome, so you will get first hand information.

Paradise 2000 Netrek Client RC5
Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. more>>
Paradise 2000 represents my bend of the Paradise Netrek client. Paradise 2000 Netrek Client is not a fork, because that would imply parallel development, but no one else has done anything with the client since about five years ago.
Paradise 2000 is in fact one of the most, if not the most, actively developed Netrek clients available today. It is for Linux (and FreeBSD) only, and is not open source*. Dont let the Paradise name fool you, it works just fine on standard bronco servers. Nobody has even played a game of Paradise Netrek for years!
The biggest new feature of the client, not found in any other, is the sound system. While the old Paradise client, Ted Turner, COW, and COW ports (Netrek1999,2000) have a simple sound effect system, its crap. Especially the one used by COW. The Paradise/Ted Turner one is better, and is partially written by me, though you wouldnt know that*.
The Paradise 2000 sound system has psychoacoustic stereo effects that place sounds based on where they happen. If someone on the left blows up, you can tell they are on the left just from the sound. The newest version of Paradise-2000 has a sound system with speech output using IBMs ViaVoice TTS. If a teammate sends a carrying message, the client will actually say something like, "F one carrying five to org."
Main features:
- See weapons on galactic map
- Auto-rotate galaxy to put playing teams on left side
- Dashboard timer to show repair or refit time remaining
- See the army count for the planet your are orbiting
- Remap your keys via the help window. Just push the key you want over the name of the function you want to assign to it.
- Use the same key for both bombing armies and picking armies. The client can tell by context with one would make sense.
- You can set configuration options to different values for different server types.
- Double buffering support for graphics. When turned on, eliminates flicker. Very useful for LCD monitors.
- Extensive support for enhanced observer mode:
- See all players tractors and pressors while observing.
- You can lock onto a cloaked player and observe them.
- All your ship stats will reflect the player you are observing. Even torps out, kills, and army capacity.
- Your ship and player letter dont get drawn on top of the player you are observings ship and letter.
- Observers wont have stats shown in your player list, cluttering it up unnecessarily..
- Stereo sound effects!
- Highly configurable speech synthesis!
- Option to omit the team letter of ships on the galactic. Just show 0 instead of F0, since you can tell the team by the color of the letter.
- Game score on hockey servers calculated and put on the galactic for easy reference.
- Cool looking streaking background stars when transwarping on Bronco servers.
- Flags on the dashboard gauges indicating the fuel/shields/hull needed to refit or transwarp.
- Single key transwarp on Bronco servers. Push - to automatically lock onto your base and warp to it!
- 19FLAGS protocol enhancement. Reduces messed up flags from packetloss. Hockey players, this will eliminate stuck tractors and pressors.
- Works with WindowMaker. Window manager delete buttons work.
- Hockey bug fix, puck doesnt cloak at warp 15 or 31.
- Support for short packets 2. Reduces bandwidth and improves playability with packetloss.
- Supports SBHOURS feature, see how many base hours someone has.
- Shrink phasers, like BRMH.
- Support for wheel mice. The wheel will scroll the message windows, and can be bound to actions like other mouse buttons.
- Re-enter the game after dying by pushing the spacebar, instead of clicking on the right team window. Faster and prevents selecting the wrong team on accident in 4v4 hockey games.
- 32 position ship bitmaps. Your ship rotations will look smoother.
- Small red circle around ship shows det radius.
- Tic marks to show exact ship heading.
- Arrow on puck to indicate direction.
- ID of player you are tractoring displayed next to your ship.
- Configure what columns are in the player list, both the one-column and two-column list. You can also change the width of the each field, so show fewer digits for instance.
- UDP portswap option that lets the client work through NAT firewalls, like Linux IP_MASQ, without a special module.

DAPHNE 0.99.7
DAPHNE is the First Ever Multiple Arcade Laserdisc Emulator! more>>
DAPHNE is a Free laserdisc game emulator that allows one to play laserdisc arcade games on ones PC. Using DAPHNE, one can play the following laserdisc arcade games:
- Astron Belt
- Badlands
- Begas Battle
- Cliff Hanger
- Cobra Command (running on Astron Belt hardware)
- Dragons Lair (US)
- Eshs Aurunmilla
- Galaxy Ranger
- Space Ace (US)
- Star Blazer
- Super Don Quix-ote
- Thayers Quest
The main question everyone seems to want to know is whether you need a real laserdisc and a real laserdisc player to play games with DAPHNE.
The answer is you do NOT need a real laserdisc player to play games with DAPHNE. DAPHNE can emulate a real laserdisc player using mpeg files. However, if you happen to have a real laserdisc and a real laserdisc player, you CAN use them with DAPHNE.
DAPHNE is available for i386 GNU/Linux, i386 FreeBSD, Mac OSX and Windows 2000/XP. It also may work on older versions of Windows such as 95/98/ME but performance will not be as smooth (rather jerky when using mpeg files).

DAPHNE is available for i386 GNU/Linux, i386 FreeBSD, Mac OSX and Windows 2000/XP. It also may work on older versions of Windows such as 95/98/ME but performance will not be as smooth (rather jerky when using mpeg files).

travtrack 0.6.7

travtrack project is a Galaxy generator & editor for Traveller(tm).
travtrack is a tool to help a Traveller(tm) referee keep track of essential data for a game.
Already implemented are galaxies, sectors, subsectors, systems, stars, planets, belt and moons.
Yet to be implemented are trade routes, ships, characters, and all the rest. These will take some time, but should not be too complex. It currently uses the GURPS Traveller:First In rules for system generation, but a subproject is under way to add Classic Traveller generation and output.
travlib is a collection of C routines that should make writing a Traveller application easier. A guile interface to the data representation functions is provided.
Main features:
- Display of hex-mapped navigational data for subsectors Implemented
- Display of system, stellar and planetary information
- Display of galactic and sector maps
- Display of systems as orbits
- Display of planets as orbits (i.e., with moons orbiting)
- Generation of subsectors, systems, stars, planets, belts and moons
- Generation of world information (governments, TL &c.)
- Auto-generation of merchant routes
- Support for Classic and GURPS Traveller rulesets

It provides a graphical map, visual access to most information you need from a turn report, and a few tools to help you create your next set of orders.
The goal is to destroy the other races and become leader of the galaxy, by occupying new planets, producing ships, waging war, and diplomatic negotiations.
Main features:
- A zoomable map of the galaxy, with
- Incoming group tracers
- Vectors of your groups in space
- Markers for battles
- An interplanetary distance ruler
- A rangefinder
- Color coding for economic state of planets
- Planet details, with production forecasts
- Display of groups at a planet, with many extra details
- Access to global and personal messages
- An aid for creating ship designs
Enhancements:
- Use of the text map in standard report files to give an indication of other players ships
- A list of ship designs currently known about
- A list of all groups currently known about
- The ability to cycle through the available turns, to see a history of the game
- The standard report parser has been updated to version 5-0g, and can now handle an email header block and a missed orders warning
- A more graceful handling of no report files found
- Fixed a bug in the ship designer to do with speed on a loaded cargo ship, when cargo tech is not 1.00
- Added an "install" target to the Makefile
