Popup Fortune 2

Popup Fortune 2

Popup Fortune displays fortunes on your root X window. more>>
Popup Fortune is a python application which takes over your root window and displays on it output of the fortune program in boxes (or whatever program you specify).

It is very much a work in progress, but I find it enjoyable to leave running, and if you do too, great.

Popup Fortune is released under the terms of the GNU GPL.

Python and X are required. Python-Xlib is also needed, but I am currently including that in the tarball, since, to my knowledge, packages for that are not too common.

In addition, if you do not specify a different command, the default is fortune, so you will need that too.

Kuote 0.9.3

Kuote 0.9.3

Kuote is an applet for the KDE panel, inspired by Gnomes Wanda the Fish. more>>
Kuote is an applet for the KDE panel, inspired by Gnomes Wanda the Fish. It displays an animated character (a fish by default), which pops up quotes generated by the fortune(6) program when clicked (and optionally shows them in tooltips, too).
Kuote supports kioslaves for both the animation file and fortune files (fortune directories still work from local filesystems only). This means that you can enter any URL, not only local file names.
Try for example this fortune file available over WWW: http://hektor.umcs.lublin.pl/~mikosmul/computing/inet-fortune
It contains only two quotes, so for testing purposes use it as the only fortune file or assign it a high probability if you want to actually see these fortunes.
Main features:
- support for user-defined animations (file format compatible with Wanda the Fish)
- run fortune or any other program to generate quotes
- fortune can be configured through the GUI
Enhancements:
- added new animation: "See, Hear, Speak" (CC-BY-NC-SA license) - thanks to Mark Riedesel [Klowner]
- added French translation (thanks to Nicolas Ternisien)
- added "Next" button to fortune dialog
- fixed a memory leak associated with dialog boxes

RealVNC 4.1.2

RealVNC 4.1.2

RealVNC is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer. more>>
VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing.
The two computers dont even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home. VNC is freely and publicly available and is in widespread active use by millions throughout industry, academia and privately.
RealVNC is a UK company founded in 2002 by a team from the world-leading AT&T Laboratories in Cambridge. The company was established to commercially develop, enhance and promote VNC, the innovative remote access software with a widespread international user base.
VNC (Virtual Network Computing) software makes it possible to view and fully-interact with one computer from any other computer or mobile device anywhere on the Internet. VNC software is cross-platform, allowing remote control between different types of computer. For ultimate simplicity, there is even a Java viewer, so that any desktop can be controlled remotely from within a browser without having to install software.
VNC has a wide range of applications including system administration, IT support and helpdesks. It can also be used to support the mobile user, both for hot desking within the enterprise and also to provide remote access at home, or on the road. The system allows several connections to the same desktop, providing an invaluable tool for collaborative or shared working in the workplace or classroom. Computer support within the geographically spread family is an ever popular use.
The open source version of VNC has been freely available since 1998, and more than 50 million copies of the software have been downloaded. The software has also appeared on numerous magazine cover disks, and for several years all popular versions of Linux have included VNC. It is in active use by many millions in industry, commerce, education and at home. Virtually all Fortune 500 companies use VNC, and installations of VNC across thousands of workstations are commonplace.

Alert Manager 1.0-RC5

Alert Manager 1.0-RC5

Alert Manager was created to run an alert command. more>>
Alert Manager was created to run an alert command, monitor the status of that commands output, and guarantee that if something goes wrong it wont go unnoticed.
Alert Manager has been successfully deployed in several fortune 500 companies providing guaranteed alert delivery and command execution.
It has a very flexable configuration file that allows creation of "alert chains" - chains of commands, each with their own fallback command, failure command, timeout, retry counter, and other advanced options.
It has a method for passing messages from the command line into the various commands defined in the configuration file
Main features:
- Runs any system command (defined in configuration file) and has several methods for verifying that it executed successfully.
- Logs all activity to a file.
- Has a method to prevent infinite loops of failing commands.
- Supports user definable variables in the configuration file that can be used later in that file.
- Script returns error status to the system when an error occurs and logs a detailed message.
- Verbose error messages to STDOUT if something goes wrong.
- Multiple debugging levels.
Enhancements:
- Fixed a bug in configuration file parsing that would cause alertManager to process some commented lines when it should have ignored those lines.
- Add support for passing the "message" in via STDIN. Just use a "-m stdin" and pipe some text to alertManager.
- Set SIGCHLD to IGNORE so children can exit on their own without waiting for the parent to reap them or exit.

Request Tracker 3.6.1

Request Tracker 3.6.1

Request Tracker is a web, command-line, and email-based trouble ticketing and bugtracking package. more>>
Request Tracker (RT) is an enterprise-grade ticketing system which enables a group of people to intelligently and efficiently manage tasks, issues, and requests submitted by a community of users.
The RT platform has been under development since 1996, and is used by systems administrators, customer support staffs, IT managers, developers and marketing departments at thousands of sites around the world.
Written in object-oriented Perl, RT is a high-level, portable, platform independent system that eases collaboration within organizations and makes it easy for them to take care of their customers.
RT manages key tasks such as the identification, prioritization, assignment, resolution and notification required by enterprise-critical applications including project management, help desk, NOC ticketing, CRM and software development.
RT is used by Fortune 100 companies, government agencies, educational institutions, and development organizations worldwide.
Main features:
- RT is your organizations focal point for tracking tasks, issues, knowledge, and collaboration.
- Its easy to submit, assign, prioritize, search, escalate, and report on issues.
- RT keeps track of each tickets full history and metadata to help your organization better retain knowledge and analyze trends.
- RT can track multiple projects for multiple teams within a single installation.
- RT tracks critical system metadata, including time spent per action, due dates, and estimated time to completion.
- Its easy to record private comments that are not available to end-users.
- RTs web interface comes complete with an intuitive "iterative" search interface that allows end users to construct complex queries by pointing and clicking within their web browsers.
- Users can save and edit queries later, using their browsers "bookmarks" feature.
- Users dont need to do anything special -- they can just send email to RT. RT will take care of thanking them for their message, automatically routing it to the appropriate staff, and making sure all future correspondence gets to the right place.
- RT provides a simple, self-service interface that allows end users to view their own active and resolved tickets online.
- RTs web interface is designed to be easy to use from any browser. Just working in Internet Explorer and Netscape isnt enough. Your staff need to be able to get work done anytime, anywhere.
- Whether you use Windows, MacOS or Unix, your staff already have everything they need to access RT.
- RT works great from a handheld or screen-reader (for the blind.) Best Practical is working with users to ensure that a future release is fully compliant with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
- A powerful new command-line interface that allows power users to quickly and easily work with RT, even if theyre out of the office is currently available for testing by the public.
- Youve got customers around the world. RT lets you interact with them in their own language. Internally, RT converts all data to UnicodeTM, so you can respond to users in their native tongue, but work in yours.
- Youve got staff around the globe. RTs web interface has been fully internationalized. Right now, RT speaks English, German, French, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Adding new languages is a breeze, if you need something RT doesnt support yet. On login, RT automatically detects which language each user prefers, so staff members can collaborate even if they speak different languages.
- Unlike costly proprietary issue tracking systems, an administrator can have a basic RT system up and running in an afternoon.
- RT is built to be useful right out of the box. You dont need expensive consultants
- Theres no client software to manage or keep up to date. Your existing web browser and email clients are all you need.
- RT is written in object-oriented perl. Not only do you get the complete source code to the product with every download, but your staff can begin customizing RT to meet your needs within hours.
- RTs web interface and mail gateway are built on top of the same API we publish for you to write your own tools on top of. The interface is documented and there are numerous third party tools to use as examples and templates.
- Every organization needs to track specialized data. RT lets you define list-based and freeform custom fields to help track your tickets. Once you create custom fields, its easy to search on them, just like RTs predefined fields.
- All of RTs mailing rules are based around a powerful custom business logic system called "Scrips." Scrips make it easy for a local administrator to make RT do ANYTHING whenever a ticket is created or updated, without making it hard to upgrade.
- RTs entire web interface is built on a flexible templating system that lets you build your own web-based tools or alter RTs look and feel to better fit your organization.
- If you dont want to radically change RTs interface, you can add your own components to RTs pages. A web callback system lets you drop miniature templates into RTs web pages.
- If you need even more power, "Code overlays" let you customize RTs internal behaviour without touching RTs core libraries.
Enhancements:
- This release includes numerous small cleanups and improvements.
- It fixes the dreaded "infinite relogin" bug.

Pure FTP Server 1.0.21

Pure FTP Server 1.0.21

Pure FTP Server is a fast, production quality, standards-conformant FTP server based on Troll-FTPd. more>>
Pure FTP Server is a fast, production quality, standards-conformant FTP server based on Troll-FTPd. Pure FTP Server has no known vulnerability, it is trivial to set up, and it is especially designed for modern kernels.
Features include PAM support, IPv6, chroot()ed home directories, virtual domains, built-in ls, FXP protocol, anti-warez system, bandwidth throttling, restricted ports for passive downloads, an LDAP backend, XML output, and more.
Beginners can install a Pure-FTPd server in 5 minutes. It can be as simple as installing the package, typing "pure-ftpd &" and... thats all. You already have a running server, and clients can start to connect.
Theres no need to review any long and complex configuration file, where possible mistakes could have security and reliability implications. Pure-FTPd uses simple command-line switches to enable the features you need.
You can limit the number of simultaneous users, limit their bandwidth to avoid starving your ADSL or cable-modem link, hide system files (chroot), have upload/download ratios, and moderate new uploads.
Custom messages can be displayed at login-time (even changing fortune files) and when an user enters a new directory. Also, to avoid your disks being filled up, you can defined a maximal percentage, and new uploads will be disallowed once this percentage is reached.
The FXP (server-to-server) protocol is implemented. It can be available for everyone, or only for authenticated users.
Kiddies are using common brute-forcing tools that are trying to discover hidden directories. Pure-FTPd provides a protection against this. Anonymous access is secure by default. For instance, users cant access dot-files (.bash_history, .rhosts, ...) unless you explicitely enable this.
And to watch whos doing what, the pure-ftpwho command shows a table with currently active sessions, how much bandwidth is taken by every user, what files they are uploading or downloading, where they are coming from, etc.
Enhancements:
- User names can now be up to 127 characters long.
- Compilation with PAM support has been fixed on Mac OS X, and the MySQL PASSWORD() function can now be used with MySQL >= 4.1.
- Logging now has the correct timezone.
- Support for charset conversions (RFC2640) has been implemented. Large files are now handled by default, using sendfile64() if possible. SITE UTIME and OPTS MLST have been implemented.
- MySQL queries can now include multiple statements and call MySQL 5 stored procedures.
- Transferring a lot of small files is now much faster than in previous versions.

cdServer 0.8

cdServer 0.8

cdServer is a simple HTTP server based on the standard Python library module SimpleHTTPServer. more>>
cdServer is a simple HTTP server based on the standard Python library module SimpleHTTPServer. cdServer is designed to serve (static) contents off a CD-ROM. cdServer provides a simple interface for special (interactive) functions implemented in an external application program, e.g. search functions for a database.
The distribution archive for cdServer includes a demo application (search for a string in a fortune file) as well as help and manual files. cdServer is licensed LGPL and the demo application was deliberately put into the public domain to provide a good starting point for your applications.
The demo is designed to start automatically on Windows machines if burned onto a CD-ROM (requires a minimum Python installation for Windows in the file system of the demo directory tree, see documentation for details).
The documentation is part of what you see when you are running the demo application. What you dont see here on this website are additional functions which are only visible when when running cdServer (check the source of the documentation for HTML comments in the left side navigation bar if you are curious).
Enhancements:
ACLs for limiting access to the server introduced
- new option -a: add host to list of allowed_hosts
- new option -n: add network to list of allowed_networks
- code for checking the host IP against a list of allowed hosts/networks added (taken from moosicWebGUI, originally contributed by Forest Bond)
New option -d: switch on debug mode
- in debug mode errors while importing cdApp are not caught
- variable cdApp.debug is set after import
