CRUX 2.3
CRUX is a lightweight, i686-optimized Linux distribution targeted at experienced Linux users. more>>
CRUX is a lightweight, i686-optimized Linux distribution targeted at experienced Linux users.
The primary focus of this distribution is "keep it simple", which is reflected in a simple tar.gz-based package system, BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed packages.
The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and recent tools and libraries. CRUX also has a ports system which makes it easy to install and upgrade applications.
There are many Linux distributions out there these days, so what makes this distribution any better than the others? Well, its all about taste really. I can give you a hint about my taste, and perhaps we share the same taste, or we dont.
First of all, I want a distribution made with simplicity in mind from beginning to end. Further, I want my packages up-to-date, not the latest bleeding-edge-alpha version, but the latest stable version. I want to easily create new and update old packages (updating a package in CRUX is often just a matter of typing pkgmk -d -u).
I want packages optimized for my processor (think -march=i686). I dont want my filesystem cluttered with files I never use (think /usr/doc/*, etc). If I need more information about a specific program, other than information found on the man-page, Ill find it on the net. And finally, I want to use new features offered by recent Linux kernels (think devfs, reiserfs, ext3fs, etc).
If you are a somewhat experienced Linux user that wants a clean and solid Linux distribution as the foundation of your installation, prefers editing configuration files with an editor to using a GUI, and doesnt hesitate to download and compile programs yourself, then this distribution might suit you well.
Enhancements:
- CRUX 2.3 has been released." Whats new? "CRUX 2.3 includes glibc 2.5 and GCC 4.1.2; the monolithic x11 package has been replaced by the new modular X.Org distribution - as the results of this update, crux.nu now hosts a dedicated xorg ports repository, installed by default; the netkit-base port has been replaced by inetd and iana-etc; by popular request we included iproute2 and iputils in the core collection.

Ch Standard Edition 5.0
Ch is an embeddable C/C++ interpreter for scripting and numerical computing. more>>
Ch is an embeddable C/C++ interpreter for cross-platform scripting, shell programming, 2D/3D plotting, numerical computing, and embedded scripting. C/Ch/C++ allow users to use one language, anywhere and everywhere, for any programming tasks. Ch is the solution for:
- Embedded Scripting
- Enterprise
- Academic
- Plotting and Numerical Computing
C++ is C plus plus minus. Ch is C plus (Ch = C+). Ch is a C interpreter. Ch is C with classes and high-level extensions. Ch is a superset of C. Note that C++ is no longer a superset of C. For example, VLA and IEEE floating-point arithmetic in C are not supported in C++.
C is for low-level system programming and embedded systems; C++ for large-scale projects. Ch is optimal for platform-independent scripting in numerical computing and visualization, rapid application development, Web programming and plotting, embedded scripting, shell programming and integration with legacy systems.
Like C++, Ch is designed to be a superset of C, which means a C program can run in Ch without modification. Unlike C++ which is designed for serious professional programmers (elite), Ch is designed for both novice beginners with no computer experience (average Joe and John) as well as experienced programmers.

G System 0.5.1
The G System is a free and open source simulation framework and virtual reality. more>>
The G System, often simply called "G", is an effort to create exactly this: simulation of evolution. This is both, a scientific exercise and a virtual reality where many "users" can participate in an ever changing, realistic and ... evolving universe.
G is basically a framework for virtual world simulations. And not only a framework (the "G System") but a virtual reality itself, which will become the application created with the G System.
- Multi-User 3D virtual world experience. The G System provides a 3D virtual reality that can be experienced by many users at the same time. The Users are part of the evolving universe.
- Simulation. The goal of G is to simulate a realistic, dynamic and evolving universe. To allow great flexibility a well designed core system provides the infrastructure for the world. The whole world is made up with elements.
Elements allow for creation of rule systems (like realistic physics, impact of feelings,...) to be applied to elements as well as integration of artificial intelligence (and anything else that is needed) to create evolutionary abilities.
Rule systems are created with "agents". These agents can reach arbitrary complexity and are executed as a thread, thus allowing maximum freedom to the agent design. Users can enter the world and interact with their environment, which ultimately has an impact on the evolution of the virtual universe. Thus, users make up a part of the overall simulation.
Enhancements:
LIBRARIES
G Core System (GCS):
- GCS::GObject does not store the IDs of the children anymore
- GCS::GWorldData can now return a list of children of an element
G World Engine (GWE):
- Bugs fixed concerning connecting to the G Universe
- Mutex deadlocks fixed that prevented the demo to run
- XMPP Presence subscriptions are now handled and in use
- Added new GStorage class wich implements a Qt based database layer, every database supported by Qt is supported by the G System, tested and known to work so far: QSQLITE, QMYSQL3, QPSQL7
- GStorage now used instead of GXmlStorage
- All GXmlNetwork related classes have been removed
- Fixed iterator bug that could cause crashes
- The factory has been adapted to the new database options
BINARIES
guniverseclient:
- Extracted the communication/chat area into a separate widget
- Now differentiates between internal and external contacts in the
- contact list.
- The default configuration file is now in $HOME/.guniverseclient.xml
- This makes it easy to have different configurations for every user

Mambo 4.6.2
Mambo 4.6.2 is a localised Mambo with superb language management support. more>>
Mambo is a full-featured content management system that can be used for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. This multi-award winning CMS is used all over the world by over 6 million websites and best part of it is that Mambo is free of charge. Mambo is released under the GNU General Public license (GNU GPL) version 2.
One of the main draws to this product is that you do not need to have any knowledge of HTML to manage your site. Mambo offers up a friendly Admin interface with point and click functionality that even the most inexperienced of users would be able to navigate. No need to know how to format or layout an HTML page. Mambo does it for you. Simply configure and manage your site content from within the menu driven Admin Panel. But thats not to say that Mambo is a simple or basic application in terms of features. Quite the opposite. You can apply template changes to your site, you can manage a user database, you can even manage online polls. It can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be.
Another reason that Mambo is so popular is that users have access to great product support. The development team is constantly changing and improving the product. As well, there is a very strong and healthy online community. If youre ever stuck, you can always seek help from experienced Mambo users at http://forum.mambo-foundation.org. As well, chances are that if your web host offers Mambo, they will have tutorials in their support area.
What Mambo isnt!
Mambo is not a typical "portal" solution.
While Mambo can be modified or extended to provide this style of site this is not the goal of the project. Mambo is aimed at the more squarely at corporate websites or sites for small to medium businesses, families or personal sites.
The Mambo Development Team focuses on building a solid application framework rather than on add-ons that are typically found in many portal solutions. This keeps the Mambo core extremely lightweight and efficient, thus making it easier for anybody to extend Mambo through custom third party component and modules that directly serve their needs.

GSpeakers is a loudspeaker design program designed for the Gnome desktop.
GSpeakers is built using the Gtkmm libraries (C++ wrapper for the Gtk+ libraries http://gtkmm.sf.net).
The reason I started to work on this program was that I could not find any other Gtk/Gnome based loudspeaker design program. The question I had to ask myself was: How can I make it easier to design loudspeakers?
GSpeakers aims to be easy to use but still powerful enough ful the experienced loudspeaker designer.

JourneySat 1.1.2
JourneySat lets you show to your friends and relatives the places youve travelled to. more>>
JourneySat lets you show to your friends and relatives the places youve travelled to. You can combine diary notes, photos and satellite images and embed them into your web site either when youre back home or when youre still on the road.
After writing a diary note and adding the photos of the day, you can find out the exact geographical location of the places youve visited to let your friends see them from a satellite viewpoint, using the images provided by Google Maps TM.
In this way theyll see much more than what can be normally experienced through photos. As a further bonus, you can even specify the locations where you shoot your photos and theyll be marked on the satellite view.
And, well, why limit oneself to documenting travels? You can use JourneySat for anything that you do on the planet Earth.
One more word before directing you to the demo: JourneySat is free software. That means both that it costs no money and that you can modify it as you wish. JourneySat is licensed under the GNU General Public License. Read the terms of the license.
Enhancements:
- Several bugs were fixed in the code and in the documentation.
- The internal API has been completed with the implementation of methods to navigate through and edit the sequences of places and contents.

Harvs Hamshack Hack 06
Harvs Hamshack Hack is a remaster of the KNOPPIX distro for Amateur Radio Operators (Hams). more>>
Harvs Hamshack Hack is a remaster of the KNOPPIX distro for Amateur Radio Operators (Hams).
This project is directed primarily at Amateur Radio enthusiasts (Hams) who have no prior experience with LINUX. Hopefully, experienced LINUX users (perhaps, even a "guru" or two) will give it a spin and offer corrections and suggestions for improvement ... in fact, they are obligated to do so!
The CD contains a complete LINUX-Knoppix operating system and enough software to accomplish the usual tasks we all perform daily from our homes ... web browsing, email, letter writing, etc.
In addition, there is a huge library of programs for our Amateur Radio hobby.
The Hamshack Hack is a "Live CD". As a "Live CD" system, no installation to your machines hard drive is necessary. The whole package will run off the CD by building a "ram disk" in your machines memory. As soon as you re-boot your machine, the LINUX system vaporizes and youll be back with whatever system is installed on your hard drive.
To obtain your very own copy of the "the Hack", you must download the "hamshack.iso" image file and then, using your favorite CD burner (I use K3B on Linux, or Nero on Windows), burn the image to a CD. Pick the "Burn CD Image" option, else youll end up with just another copy of the .iso file. Then, when the smoke clears, youll boot your machine with this new CD.
