Plan-B Linux 1.0

Plan-B Linux 1.0

Plan-B is a bootable Linux environment without the need for a hard drive. more>>
Plan-B is a bootable Linux environment without the need for a hard drive, it runs entirely in ram or from the cd, based on a basic, stripped installation of Red Hat Linux and the fundamental workings of the SuperRescue CD. A list of tools and utilities are also included for projects such as:

* Forensics/Data Recovery
* System/Network Analysis and Security Scanning
* Temporary Network Device/Server
* IDS / NIDS System
* Network Status Report Creation

My reason for its creation came about due to finding other similar projects (SuperRescue CD, Biatchux (F.I.R.E.), Trinux, Knoppix) to be geared toward only a single area of the broad spectrum I was looking for. The first of which (by H. Peter Anvin, the author of Syslinux, Isolinux, and zisofs) was the only one close to the concept I had in mind which is why I chose it as the foundation for this cd. After not finding what I was really looking for, the "All-in-One", I decided the only way to get it was to build one myself.

Crash Recovery Kit for Linux 2.6.11.10

Crash Recovery Kit for Linux 2.6.11.10

Crash Recovery Kit for Linux is a Linux distribution for system recovery. more>>
Crash Recovery for Linux sounds a bit superfluous. Linux is regarded as one of todays most stable Operating Systems. In the case of some hardware failure like a broken disk it can however be handy.
Of course your machine doesnt have to have linux installed to make use of the CRK kit. There are several uses and purposes for the CRK to be used. To name a few :
- recovery of a trashed LILO boot record. How many times does it happen that some person installs windows 98/95 after he/she installed linux? Well in that case windows 9X just overwrites the MBR record and linux wont be able to boot anymore.
- backup over the network in the form of tar.gz tarballs. Both FAT16, FAT32, ext2 and all filesystems which Linux supports in a read/write fashion can be taken care of. The strong part of the CRK is when a disk is replaced or repartitioning is being done. The CRK boots a complete mini linux with networking where all possible hardware which is inside the Linux kernel is available.
- Testing hardware of new intel based machines.
- Detecting versions and types of hardware. The Linux kernel holds a large database of hardware supported. Booting a linux kernel doesnt only resolve if the hardware is ok, it also show its specs. This can be handy if one wants to check-out an old/new PC which is for sale.
- Recovery of a misconfigured or hacked Linux system. Well that can happen. /etc/fstab can be wrong or the root password is unknown etc.
- make a tape backup of a disk which cant be booted anymore.
The CRK is based on RedHat Linux. I have always used RedHat systems, thats why. When my system needed maintenance the rescue floppy image which RedHat supplies didnt fullfill my needs.
Thats why i created the CRK. Lately i use Mandrake. How and why the CRK was created read the short history. The CRK is licensed under the GNU Public License (GPL).

Kryptor 0.1.2

Kryptor 0.1.2

Kryptor is a graphical tool to encrypt files using the algorithm ARCS. more>>
Kryptor is a graphical tool to encrypt files using the algorithm ARCS. Kryptor is also possible to erase files by overwriting data with a pseudo-random sequence of bytes iterated three times, which will make data recovery a very complex operation.

Installation:

The simplest way to compile this package is:

1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system. If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.

Running `configure takes a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.

2. Type `make to compile the package.

3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.

4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.

Whats New in This Release:

ï¿1⁄2 Some compiling bugs were fixed.

Data.FormValidator 0.04

Data.FormValidator 0.04

Data.FormValidators aim is to bring all the benefits of the perl module Data::FormValidator over to javascript. more>>
Data.FormValidators aim is to bring all the benefits of the perl module Data::FormValidator over to javascript, using the same input profiles (they can be dumped into javascript objects using the perl module Data::JavaScript.
Data.FormValidator library lets you define profiles which declare the required and optional fields and any constraints they might have.
The results are provided as an object which makes it easy to handle missing and invalid results, return error messages about which constraints failed, or process the resulting valid data.
IMPORTANT NOTE: JavaScript form validation is NOT a replacement for data validation in your backend scripts. This is the primary reason this module was written... so that it would be easy to share the same validation profile for both the frontend (via Data.FormValidator.js) and backend (via Data::FormValidator.pm).
Enhancements:
- A problem where some functions were not terminated by a semi-colon, so JavaScript compactors would end up creating broken code was fixed.

Bcrypt 1.1

Bcrypt 1.1

Bcrypt project is a lightweight blowfish file encryption utility. more>>
Bcrypt project is a lightweight blowfish file encryption utility which aims for cross-platform portability of not only the actual code, but the encrypted files as well.
In addition to providing 448-bit encryption, Bcrypt overwrites input files with random garbage.
Installation:
If youre so inclined, edit config.h and change the defaults to whatever you think is appropriate for your needs. If you choose not to have bcrypt remove input files after processing, or set SECUREDELETE to 0, you are likely to have data on your hard drive that can be recovered even after deletion. All of these options can be set on the command line as well.
When youre satisfied with the default settings, simply type:
make
then su and type:
make install
It would be wise to test the installation on a few unimportant files before encrypting anything you value, removing the only copy and overwriting it 127 times with garbage.
Usage:
bcrypt [-orc][-sN] file ...
Encrypted files will be saved with an extension of .bfe. Any files ending in .bfe will be assumed to be encrypted with bcrypt and will attempt to decrypt them. Any other input files will be encrypted. If more than one type of file is given, bcrypt will process all files which are the same as the first filetype given.
By default, bcrypt will compress input files before encryption, remove input files after they are processed (assuming they are processed successfully) and overwrite input files with random data to prevent data recovery.
Passphrases may be between 8 and 56 characters. Regardless of the passphrase size, the key is hashed internally to 448 bits - the largest keysize supported by the blowfish algorithm. However, it is still wise to use a strong passphrase.
Options:
-o print output to standard out. Implies -r.
-c DO NOT compress files before encryption.
-r DO NOT remove input files after processing
-sN How many times to overwrite input files with random data before processing. The default number of overwrites is 3. Use -s0 to disable this feature. No effect if -r is supplied.
Enhancements:
- 1.1 fixes a few minor bugs and adds support for many new operating systems.
- 1.1 is immensely faster than 1.0.
- Additionally, it uses about 50% as much memory with compression turned off, or 66% with compression on.
Notes: If you previously used 1.0 on an unsupported platform, you may not be able to decrypt any encrypted files you have. Alpha systems are known to have this problem. 32 bit systems should not have this problem. 64 bit systems probably do. If your system exhibits this problem, you should decrypt your files with 1.0 and reencrypt them with 1.1.

DARE 1.0

DARE 1.0

DARE is a small Linux kernel patch to VFS (Virtual Filesystem). more>>
DARE is a small Linux kernel patch to VFS (Virtual Filesystem) which transparently moves files into a special directory on each filesystem instead of removing them. DARE works similar like Novell Netware Data Recovery or MS Windows Recycle Bin.

DARE is independent on filesystem type, so it can be used without constraints on almost every filesystem. Deleted files are collected in directory deleted on the filesystem root dir. This directory have to be created manualy on each filesystem on which you want the DARE functionality. Filesystem without directory deleted works without DARE.

Deleted files are grouped into subdirectories by N hours. The N is configurable at the kernel compiling time. This simplifies removing of old deleted files from directory deleted. Subdirectories are named numericaly by UNIX time. Aditionaly to each subdirectory, an informational file is created.

This file is named the same way as corresponding subdirectory and aditionaly the file has suffix .inf. Informational file contains informations about deleted files, directories, special files including original pathname, permissions, deletion time and id of user who deleted this file.

There are also user space utilities for dealing with deleted files and content of directory deleted. There are these utilities:

lsdel - list of files deleted in actual directory
salvage - recovery deleted files
purge - utterly remove deleted files
deleted - daemon watching disks free space and removing old deleted files to keep disk free space in defined boundaries.
