hdup is used to back up a filesystem. more>>
Hdup 2.0 is an evolution from hdup 1.6. Hdup 2.0 is more solid and has even more features, it supports a nobackup keyword, if a special file is found in a directory - that directory is not backed up. Also the include/exclude mechanism is more powerfull and more robust.
Hdup should run and compile on all Unixes out there. hdup does depend on Gnu tar for the backups. It also needs glib-dev if you compile it yourself. Also for building it you need Gnu Make.
Hdup 2.0 offers a much better include/exclude mechanism and can see nobackup keywords in directories. But because of some limitation in the current stable version of Gnu tar this means that not all directory information is included in the archive. You need a Gnu tar version > 1.3.25, pref. one of the newer stable releases (1.15.x or greater).
I currently have a SOLUTION for this. This involves patching tar and running hdup with the -P (patched_tar) option. This patch makes tar and hdup include the directory information in the archives once again.
Main features:
- simple to use,
- small and versatile backup program,
- support for incremental backups,
- support for backups over the network (with ssh),
- support for network restore (with ssh),
- support for encrypted backups (using mcrypt, gnupg),
- support for split up archives (called chunks),
- support for .nobackup files (to exclude certain directories),

Powerbox for Gtk is a patch to Gtk which replaces its GtkFileChooserDialog
Powerbox is a normal file chooser dialog box, except that it dynamically grants the application the right to access the file that the user picks.
This helps provide security because the application can be run without needing access to all the users files. Powerbox-for-Gtk patches Gtk to replace GtkFileChooserDialog with a powerbox.
It is based on Plash, which provides a restricted execution environment on Linux.
Enhancements:
- Add gtk-powerbox.c: an LD_PRELOADed patch to Gtk to replace the GtkFileChooserDialog interface so that it calls Plashs powerbox.
- Rename "plash" executable to "pola-shell".
- fs-operations.c: Add log method. Add an "end" log message when the fs_op object is dropped.
- gettextization
- make.sh: Add "-Wl,-z,relro" when linking ld.so. Fixes obscure problem when dlopen()ing libraries that might require an executable stack.
- Intercept getsockname() so that it returns the correct pathname for Unix domain sockets. Extended the g_fds array in libc so that it can contain these pathnames. It is now an array of "struct libc_fd"s, rather than an array of "cap_t"s. libc-fds.h: New file. libc-misc.c: Introduced fds_resize(), fds_slot_clear(). Changed open(), close(), dup2(), etc. libc-connect.c: Add getsockname() and change connect() and bind().
- Reason: I discovered that gconfd2 (or possibly Orbit) was relying on getsockname() returning the pathname that it earlier passed to bind(). This meant that Gnumeric was unable to spawn a gconf process itself, and it produced loads of errors.
- fs-operations.c, libc-misc.c: Fixed fstat() to return the correct information on directory FDs. Added the fsop_dir_fstat method to implement this.
- build-fs-dynamic.c: Implement link() and rename() methods. This is needed for when GNOME and KDE apps hard link files inside $HOME.
- filesysobj-real.c: Changes to allow rename and hard link calls of the form rename("dir/foo1", "dir/foo2") to work.
- The problem: The real_dir_rename and real_dir_link methods only work in the same-directory case; their test was a pointer comparison on real_dir objects. However, resolving a directory pathname like "dir" always returns a new real_dir object. This meant that the rename() call wouldnt work when you use full pathnames.
- This was causing some failures. eg. Konqueror wouldnt start: some code relied on creating "$HOME/.ICEauthority-l" as a hard link to "$HOME/.ICEauthority-c".
- The partial solution: Change the same-directory check to compare inode and device number of directory, after trying a pointer comparison.

Primary motivation for this project was the need to replace Bind servers with djbdns in an ISP environment. These servers get recursive queries from customers and authoritative queries from outside at the same IP address. Now it is possible to run dnscache and tinydns on the same machine with queries dispatched by dnsproxy.
Other scenarios are firewalls where you want to proxy queries to the real servers in your DMZ. Or internal nameservers behind firewalls, or...

IFSgr uses Fractints IFS file format, and features automatic fractal scaling and gray level adjustment and consistent image look independent of size or the numbers of iterations.
It can also convert Fractint files to Gimp IFS Compose files and back.

The tipical RPG game system is a type of role-playing game where turn-based battles are fought on a 3D map. Examples of commercial tactical RPGs include Final Fantasy Tactics, Vandal Hearts, and Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.
Our goal is to make GalaxyMage a game that is relatively simple to pick up and play -- you can dive right in without getting bogged down in the details of the battle mechanics -- but to also allow for a lot of character development and customization.
We also intend to create a unique, advanced AI system that allows enemy units to work together as a team and employ a wide variety of strategies. And eventually, we plan on adding networked multiplayer support.

FreeFont project aims to provide a set of free outline (PostScript Type0, TrueType, OpenType...) fonts covering the ISO 10646/Unicode UCS (Universal Character Set).
Why do we need free outline UCS fonts?
A large number of free software users switched from free X11 bitmapped fonts to proprietary Microsoft Truetype fonts, as a) they used to be freely downloaded from Microsoft Typography page, b) they contain a more or less decent subset of the ISO 10646 UCS (Universal Character Set), c) they are high-quality, well hinted scalable Truetype fonts, and d) Freetype, a free high-quality Truetype font renderer is available and has been integrated into the latest release of XFree86, the free X11 server.
Building a dependence on non-free software, even a niche one like fonts, is dangerous. Microsoft Truetype core fonts were never free, they were just costless. Citing the TrueType core fonts for the Web FAQ: You may only redistribute the fonts in their original form (.exe or .sit.hqx) and with their original file name from your Web site or intranet site. You must not supply the fonts, or any derivative fonts based on them, in any form that adds value to commercial products, such as CD-ROM or disk based multimedia programs, application software or utilities. As of August 2002, however, the fonts are not anymore available on the Web, which makes the situation clearer.
Dont there exist any free high-quality outline fonts? Yes, they do. URW++, a German digital typefoundry, released their own version of the 35 Postscript Type 1 core fonts under GPL as their donation to the Ghostscript project. The Wadalab Kanji comittee has produced Type 1 font files with thousands of filigree Japanese glyphs. Yannis Haralambous has drawn beautiful glyphs for the Omega typesetting system. And so on. Scattered around the internet there are numerous other free resources for other national scripts, many of them aiming to be a suitable match for Latin fonts like Times or Helvetica.

libping is a C library designed to allow a programmer to make ICMP_ECHO requests directly from a script or program. libpings functions return either boolean--is alive--or the round trip time in milliseconds.
The library also includes support for "pinging" the following tcp/ip services: echo, http, https, smtp and pop3. Versions 1.15 and better are threadsafe.
Installation:
In a nutshell, to install the application in the default directory, ( /usr/local ), run the following commands:
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install
This will install the application ( ring ) in the default directory /usr/local/bin. If that directory is in your PATH, then to run ring and view the online help type:
$ ring --help
It will also install libping in /usr/local/lib and place the header file ping.h in /usr/local/include.

SQL::Statement::Embed can embed a SQL engine in a DBD or module.
SQL::Statement is designed to be easy to embed in other modules and to be especially easy to embed in DBI drivers. It provides a SQL Engine and the other module needs to then provide a data source and a storage mechanism. For example, the DBD::CSV module uses SQL::Statement as an embedded SQL engine by implementing a file-based data source and by using DBI as the user interface. Similarly DBD::Amazon uses SQL::Statement as its SQL engine, provides its own extensions to the supported SQL syntax, and uses on-the-fly searches of Amazon.com as its data source.
SQL::Statement is the basis for eight existing DBDs (DBI database drivers). If you have a new data source, you too can create a DBD without having to reinvent the SQL wheel. Its fun, its easy, become a DBD author today!
SQL::Statement can be also be embedded without DBI. Well explore that first since developing a DBD uses most of the same methods and techniques.
The role of SQL::Statement subclasses
SQL::Statement provides a SQL parsing and execution engine. It does not provide a data source or storage mechanism other than in-memory tables. The DBD::File module is a subclass of SQL::Statement that provides access to file-based storage mechanisms. Its quite possible to use things other than files as data souces, in which case we wouldnt use DBD::File, instead wed replace DBD::Files methods with our own. In the examples below, well use DBD::File, replacing only a few methods.
SQL::Statement provides SQL parsing and evaluation and DBD::File provides file-based storage. The only thing missing is a data source - what we actually want to store and query. As an example suppose we are going to create a subclass called Foo that will provide as a data source a simple file similar to a passwd file - one record per line, fields separated by colons, with only three fields "username, uid, gid".
Consider what needs to happen to perform a SELECT query on our Foo data:
* recieve a SQL string
* parse the SQL string into a request structure
* open the table(s) specified in the request
* define column names and postions for the table
* read rows from the table
* convert the rows from colon-separated format into perl arrays
* match the columns and rows against the requested selection criteria
* return requested rows and columns to the user
To perform operations like INSERT and DELETE, we also need to:
* convert rows from perl arrays into colon-separated format
* write rows
* delete rows
SQL::Statement takes care of all of the SQL parsing and evaluation. DBD::File takes care of file opening, reading, writing, and deleting. So the only things Foo is really responsible for are:
* define column names and postions for the table
* convert rows from colon-separated format into perl arrays

GNoise is a wave file editor for Linux. more>>
GNoise is a wave file editor for Linux. Prime considerations were for it to be speedy and be able to handle big files. So far it can: load and display files, generate a display cache, play the file, cut, copy, paste, (unlimited) undo, mute, fade in/out, reverse, normalize, and more.
The primary design objectives are stability, speed, and the ability to handle big files (i.e. 70MB ripped CD tracks) easily. In fact GNoise is known to work with >500MB files although the author doesnt happen to have any wave files that size laying about.
See the TODO list for things Im considering adding/fixing in the near future. Feel free to send me patches or email, especially for any bugs you encounter.
The custom gtk widgets within GNoise support setting colors through the normal gtkrc mechanisms, there is a sample gtkrc file included, just drop it in ~/.gnoise and edit it to your likings.
Note that GNoise is a destructive editor: all editing operates directly on the soundfile, work on a copy of something you really dont want to lose. Note also that you should not mix the use of the disable undo option on different edits within an editing session (ie. if you start editing a file with undo disabled then leave undos disabled until you close the file, at which point you can turn undo on and re-open the file if you wish to edit with undo capability).
Enhancements:
- Finally did the markers/cue points. Add/delete markers that are saved in a standard cue chunk inside the wave file.
