xterm XFree86 4.4.99.23

xterm XFree86 4.4.99.23

xterm is a terminal emulator for the X Window System. more>>
The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible terminals for programs that cant use the window system directly.
If the underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is resized.
Enhancements:
- increase color pairs value for xterm-256color and xterm-88color to match ncurses, which has an experimental option to support this.
- modify ifdefs to make AIX use termios rather than termio; the struct sizes for the two were not the same.
- improve CF_WITH_IMAKE_CFLAGS configure macro script for OSMAJORVERSION and OSMINORVERSION values, e.g., for Tru64 and AIX.
- modify ifdef to define USE_POSIX_TERMIOS for Darwin (patch by Min Sik Kim).
- modify find_utmp() to initialize the whole utmpx struct (except ut_id), since that is needed for OSF1 4.0D to prevent an infinite loop on exit.
- add configure check before adding -D_POSIX_SOURCE since some platforms predefine it, e.g., cygwin.
- add simplified sed expressions in CF_IMAKE_CFLAGS configure script macro to ensure value for PROJECTROOT is quoted on Solaris, i.e., when nested ( and ) are not interpreted correctly.
- correct DEC rectangle operations to reset state after completing the operations.
- modify CASE_ST handling in charproc.c to ensure that the parse state is reset even if xterm is not currently processing an OSC or other string (patch by Johnny Billquist forwarded by Matthias Scheler, NetBSD xsrc/29003).
- fix OS/2 build for innotek_libc (patch by David Yeo).
- fix a regression from patch #197 fix for Debian #277832 which disowned the selection if it was scrolled, e.g., by the user pressing return at the bottom of the screen (Debian #291787).
- move the warning/exit for missing $DISPLAY into the error handler in case -display is given, and the connect fails for some other reason.

Q Desktop Services 0.4.4

Q Desktop Services 0.4.4

QDS is a library for Qt developers which provides cross-platform access to additional features of the various desktop APIs. more>>
The QDS library allows Qt applications to access features provided in common desktop APIs in a portable way, without requiring dependencies on any desktop platform library.
This is especially useful for applications targeting the Unix desktops, because Qt/X11 is very generic and only provides features it can implement on all sub platforms. All library code is licenced under 2-clause BSD licence.
Service implementations are loaded from plugins which link to the respective desktop libraries. The plugin to use can be specified on the applications commandline, in the QDS configuration file or QDS can try to autodetect the currently running platform.
Enhancements:
- Autodetection to use GNOME plugin in case GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID is set
- Replaced the primitive example application with a simple but network aware text editor application
- Support for wildcards in mailcap entries

LinCVS 1.4.4

LinCVS 1.4.4

LinCVS is an easy to use graphical CVS client. more>>
LinCVS is a graphical Interface for the cvs client commandline tool on the Unix, Windows and Mac OS X platform. LinCVS allows to load modules from a server (checkout), create modules on the server (import), as well as checking the state of directories and individual files or updating them.
Basic operations like add, remove and commit are supported as matter of course, just like showing the actual differences between the server version and the local sandbox, graphical display of the version tree, and manifoldy graphical support of project maintenance. All actions are logged on the cvs server (configurable via history), and are therewith comprehensible.
To keep LinCVS independant of the cvs version, LinCVS uses the local but separat installed cvs and therewith always should work with the latest version.
After choosing a startup dir, the project-explorer searches the subdirectories for cvs projects, and displays these on the workbench. Now all functions on one/many files or whole directories can be accessed over pulldown menues or simply a right mouseclick. The state of the individual directories is continuously scanned by LinCVS.
This means the symbol of the dir tells the user that there are for example still uncommited changes somewhere in the depth of a dir hierarchy, even without having opened them yet. So the project state is visualized right after a cvs status call. Completed with on-the-fly dir scanning, LinCVS is qualified for large projects with many thousand files.
Because of the continuous efforts of network administrators, to encrease network security, LinCVS supports all standard cvs connection protocols. Proxy support is also available, this requires a patched cvs. This is of course available on our download page.
Because LinCVS does not affect the cvs internal project maintenance, a concurrent use with cvs commandline is possible. The function of the LinCVS dir state display is not impaired therewith.
Even though LinCVS graphically supports almost the whole cvs range of functions (and is continuously under development;-), it is easy to customize the GUI to the individual needs. Popup menues are freely configurable, while the menues always provide full feature access. An extra toolbar enables direct access to often used features.
In contrast to other programs this one is really easy to use.
Enhancements:
- This version fixes a lot of bugs.

JCR 0.4.4

JCR 0.4.4

JCR is a Web application for performing and managing code reviews. more>>
JCR also know as jcodereview is a web application for performing and managing code reviews.
Although it has some special smarts for reviewing Java projects, it can be used for reviews of any type of source code.
Main features:
- Reviewers. All changes to code are highlighted, and context is shown when adding comments. If reviewing Java code, references to other classes within the file are clickable, so that you can drill into the detail if required. After review comments have been made, those comments can themselves be reviewed, and the required actions decided on and tracked
- Project owners. Review projects are easy to create and configure
- Process Nazis. Details of all comments are held in the database, along with any actions required, and whether theyve been completed. Status reports can be viewed at any time
- Architects and developers. As well as viewing the comments made for a project, its possible to see details of all review projects and comments for a specified file.
At work (Dialect Solutions), we use JCR to review more than half of the code we write. Its made a huge difference to our review process - code reviews now take less time, and the code gets reviewed much more thoroughly than it did in the past.
JCR is released under the GNU Public Licence.

glibc-audit 2.4-4

glibc-audit 2.4-4

glibc-audit is a modified version of glibc for application developers who check their code with an automatic memory access check more>>
glibc-audit is a modified version of glibc for application developers who check their code with an automatic memory access checker such as valgrind, Insure++, or Purify.
glibc-audit has been audited and cleaned up so that reports from the developers use of a memory access checker are more likely to be interesting to the developer, with less "noise" from the C library itself. Typically, glibc-audit initializes all of its local variables and structs before use. Ordinary glibc uses uninitialized dummy variables that are "dont-care" to its logic but reported by the memory access checker.
Also, the r_debug.r_brk protocol has been enhanced to co-operate with a co-resident auditor. If the auditor sets .r_brk, then the runtime loader will call the auditor directly whenever a shared library event occurs.
This is much more convenient than using breakpoints. By default the old breakpoint protocol works just like before. The new protocol is binary compatible with the old on machines where a pointer to a function is the same size as an ordinary pointer. Platforms where a pointer to a function is larger (such as HP-PA RISC, Alpha processor, or PowerPC) are not binary backward compatible, and will have to increment r_debug.r_version. Exising clients (such as gdb) also will see an ignorable type mismatch error when they are built. But for now, it is worth more not to antagonize gdb at runtime on x86.
The patch modifies 91 files. Compared to glibc-2.3.2-27.9, the additional code occupies 18 more bytes of .text, and 24 fewer bytes in the .so. On a nano-scopic scale, the typical execution cost is 0 to 3 CPU cycles per affected routine; the estimated median total impact is less than 1 second per machine per day. In the case of *printf(), glibc-audit is faster than glibc because the cleaned-up source helps gcc-3.2 avoid generating atrocious code when initializing printf_spec.info for parse_one_spec() in stdio-common/printf-parse.h.
Glibc-audit was constructed by running a memory access checker on the internal testcases of glibc, then analyzing the reported errors and modifying the source. The process revealed 10 memory access bugs in glibc-2.3.2-11.9. Seven were fixed in glibc-2.3.2-27.9, two more have been fixed in CVS, and one is a design flaw that probably will not be fixed.
Predecessor patches to glibc-audit-1 were submitted to the glibc project, but those patches were ignored [user "guest", password "guest"], declined, or rejected. There is enough improvement in usability and reliability to publish glibc-audit-1 separately.
The unmodified glibc-2.3.2-27.9.src.rpm is available from RedHat mirrors. rpmbuild -ba --target i686 took about 4 hours and 2.5GB of disk space on a machine with 1.1GHz CPU, 384MB RAM, UDMA100 disk.
Enhancements:
- The patches were updated to glibc-2.4-4.
- A glibc bug that interfered with gdb stop-on-solib-events was fixed.
- On x86, x86-64, and PowerPC, the __NR_open system call was improved to avoid leaking information from the user to the kernel.
