SuperRescue CD 2.1.2

SuperRescue CD 2.1.2

SuperRescue CD is an overfeatured rescue CD. more>>
SuperRescue is a single very large bootable system-on-a-disk. Its based on the observation that the vast majority of systems allow you to do so much more than the minimal system.

Therefore, it isnt for everything, but for most desktop systems, it provides a much nicer rescue environment than your average rescue floppy.

It requires an i386 PC with 24 MB of RAM and a bootable CD-ROM. PCMCIA support is implemented but somewhat limited. It is based on RedHat 7. (Version 1 is based on RedHat 6.)

DemoLinux 3.01

DemoLinux 3.01

DemoLinux is a distribution designed to reside entirely on a bootable CD. more>>
The DemoLinux CD allow to use Linux without installation, disk partitioning or any other complex manipulation that still prevent many people from giving Linux a try. This CD does not install Linux on your hard disk, but it allows you to play with it at lenght before you eventually decide to proceed with a full fledged installation.

This is made possible by a set of technical features in the Linux kernel and by some other free software (notably from S.u.S.E. and RedHat) that we use here.

Our goal is to allow everybody to make by himself an idea of what Linux can offer, and also to provide software publishers with a means to give out easy to use, no-hassle demos of their Linux products.

This CD is also a wonderful means of using Linux everywhere: you can take your favorite configuration with you in a CD that fits in your pocket, sit down in front of most PCs running another OS, boot from the CD and find yourself in front of your preferred environment in minutes.

e2fsimage 0.2.0

e2fsimage 0.2.0

e2fsimage is a tool for creating and populating an ext2 filesystem image as an ordinary user. more>>
e2fsimage allows you to create ext2 filesystem images, mostly used on Linux systems, by copying an entire directory structure into an ext2 formatted image without needing root permissions.
Without this tool you need to loopback-mount an existing filesystem image and copy all files there as root.
This application is usually used by people creating rescue disks, initrds, bootable floppys or CDs or the more. Especially on build hosts where they do not have root permissions and the ptrace() bug is already fixed.
Enhancements:
- support for user ids in .UIDGID file and usernames resolved by passwd file
- free uiddb structure after use
- manpage updated

distccKNOPPIX 0.1.3

distccKNOPPIX 0.1.3

distccKNOPPIX is a directly bootable and self-configuring Linux system on a small (55MB) iso running a distccd daemon. more>>
distccKNOPPIX is a directly bootable and self-configuring Linux system on a small (55MB) iso running a distccd daemon. distccKNOPPIX is a simple remastering of Knoppix running a distccd daemon and some general cleaning up/removal of unneeded packages/apps.
Its obvious target is for those who have other machines at their hands, and for some reason or an other can not get a distccd daemon running on it.
Attention Gentoo Users: The distccKNOPPIX (Debian) version of gcc is not patched with pie or protector support like the Gentoo version is. Im working on fixing this, but you will probably have problems compiling glibc, grub and perhaps other programs until this issue is remedied.
All versions are identical except for the default gcc. All downloads have all 4 versions of gcc. You can also change the default gcc at the boot prompt by typing knoppix gcc-3.4 for example. Or you can change the gcc version at the command line with update-alternatives --config gcc. If you are unsure which version to download, try the gcc-3.3 one.
Main features:
- Kernel 2.4.26
- distcc 2.16 (port 3632)
- gcc 2.95.4, 3.2.3, 3.3.4, 3.4.1
- cpp 2.95.4, 3.2.3, 3.3.4, 3.4.1
- g++ 2.95.4, 3.2.3, 3.3.4, 3.4.1
Enhancements:
- added c++ link to g++
- more cleanups
- created a mailing list

Repairlix 20000924 (Nail)

Repairlix 20000924 (Nail)

Repairlix is a networked Linux distribution/bootable system intended to fit in 12MB of media. more>>
Repairlix is a networked Linux distribution/bootable system intended to fit in 12MB of media - so small that an image can be burned onto a business-card-sized shaped CDROM, suitable for your wallet. It has a suite of utilities for doing system recovery.

Repairlix is now in the early stages of being useful. These early releases contain only enough logic to produce a bootable x86 ISO image, with perhaps some useful applications.

No testing has been made to verify that any of this works on other architectures, although it should be highly portable to any system that supports the El Torito bootable spec.

(Note: This only applies to the sources. I only have access to x86 architectures, so that will be the only platform for which I can build the ISO images I distribute. Therefore, these will be useless on other architectures.)

Sentry Firewall CD 1.5.0 RC16

Sentry Firewall CD 1.5.0 RC16

Sentry Firewall CD-ROM is a Linux based bootable CD-ROM suitable for use as an inexpensive and easy to maintain Firewall or IDS. more>>
Sentry Firewall CD-ROM is a Linux-based bootable CDROM suitable for use as an inexpensive and easy to maintain firewall, server, or IDS(Intrusion Detection System) Node. The system is designed to be immediately configurable for a variety of different operating environments via a configuration file located on a floppy disk, a local hard drive, and/or a network via HTTP(S), FTP, SFTP, or SCP.
The Sentry Firewall CD is a complete Linux system that runs off of an initial ramdisk, much like a floppy-based system, and a CD. The default kernel is a current 2.4.x series kernel with various Netfilter patches applied. An OpenWall-patched current 2.2.x kernel is also available on the CD.
Booting from the CDROM is a fairly familiar process. The BIOS execs the bootloader(Syslinux) - which then displays a bootprompt and loads the kernel and ramdisk into memory. Once the kernel is running, the ramdisk is then mounted as root(/). At this point our configuration scripts are run(written in perl) that configure the rest of the system. It is the job of these configure scripts to put the various startup and system files into the proper location using either what is declared in the configuration file(sentry.conf) or the system defaults located in the /etc/default directory.
Most of the critical files used at boot time can be replaced with your own copy when declared in the configuration file. This is essentially how we allow the user to configure the system using his/her own configuration and init files.
All of the binaries, files, scripts, etc, used to create the CD-ROM are also available on the CD-ROM. So, with a little practice, you can easily build and customize your own bootable Sentry Firewall CD.
Main features:
- Current Linux Kernel: 2.4.28-ow1
- OpenWall security patch(-ow1).
- StrongSwan.
- Ebtables bridge+netfilter patch.
- Linux-WLAN modules.
- MPPE patch.
- Modules-off patch [ More Info | Patch ]
- iptables v1.2.11.
- ebtables v2.0.6.
- OpenVPN.
- IProute2 utilities.
- Vconfig.
- PPTP Client/Server.
- Zebra
- Snort IDS v2.2.0
- Scanlogd
- OpenSSH and OpenSSL
- net-snmp
- Webmin
- NMap
- Many other daemons and binaries you may need -- Apache, Sendmail, Squid, Perl, BIND (static/chroot), and more.

Plan-B Linux 1.0

Plan-B Linux 1.0

Plan-B is a bootable Linux environment without the need for a hard drive. more>>
Plan-B is a bootable Linux environment without the need for a hard drive, it runs entirely in ram or from the cd, based on a basic, stripped installation of Red Hat Linux and the fundamental workings of the SuperRescue CD. A list of tools and utilities are also included for projects such as:

* Forensics/Data Recovery
* System/Network Analysis and Security Scanning
* Temporary Network Device/Server
* IDS / NIDS System
* Network Status Report Creation

My reason for its creation came about due to finding other similar projects (SuperRescue CD, Biatchux (F.I.R.E.), Trinux, Knoppix) to be geared toward only a single area of the broad spectrum I was looking for. The first of which (by H. Peter Anvin, the author of Syslinux, Isolinux, and zisofs) was the only one close to the concept I had in mind which is why I chose it as the foundation for this cd. After not finding what I was really looking for, the "All-in-One", I decided the only way to get it was to build one myself.

grml-small 0.1

grml-small 0.1

grml-small is a bootable CD (Live-CD) based on Knoppix and Debian. more>>
grml-small is a bootable CD (Live-CD) based on Knoppix and Debian. grml-small includes a collection of GNU/Linux software for system administrators and provides automatic hardware detection.

Whereas grml (without the -small) provides more than about 2.1GiB of software on a 700MB-ISO, grml-small is a very small rescue system for systemadministrators.

It is not necessary to install anything to a harddisk, you dont even need a harddisk to run it. Due to on-the-fly decompression grml-small includes about 150 MB of software and still fits on a business card CD-ROM or USB device with 50MB.

Initial release of grml-small, a very small version of the grml-system. Notice that there are several hacks to reduce the ISO-size, so you wont find for example documentation and manpages on the ISO.

grml-small provides support for booting via USB, see http://wiki.grml.org/doku.php?id=usb for details.

Kernel is based on vanilla kernel 2.6.12 including several patches (MPPC/MPPE, Reiser4, Squashfs,...) but compared with the normal grml system the kernel features have been reduced. See http://grml.org/kernel/ for more details.
