Phex 3.2.0
Phex is a P2P filesharing client which is based on the Gnutella network. more>>
Phex is a P2P filesharing client which is based on the Gnutella network. Phex offers advanced functions and integrates all common Gnutella extensions like multi-source downloads and advanced search features.
Main features:
Phex is a FREE of spyware and adware
- Phex never containd any kind of spyware, adware or any other kind of bundled software.
Multi-plattform support
- Whether you use MAC OS X, Linux, Solaris, or Windows Phex is able to run on them all. All you need is a operation system that offers a Java 1.4 Runtime Environment.
Multi-source downloads (Swarming)
- Often the file you like to download is available on different hosts. Phex will request different segment of the file from each host in parallel. After successfully downloading a segment Phex will merge it with the other segments of the file. This results in a much higher download speed. If a host is too slow the segment is split during download and given to an another host. To make sure you never run out of hosts Phex is able to find new download hosts by itself with the automatic search functionality.
Advanced configuration options
- Phex offers very advanced configuration options. Much more then many other clients can offer. Especially advanced user can configure Phex according to there needs and are able to tune and see the effect of different settings.
Passive searching and snooping for files
- With the passive search functionality Phex is able to constantly monitor the traffic that goes through the network and collect search results that match your passive search term. Also Phex snoops the traffic for new download candidates you need to finish your downloads faster. This type of searching is usefull for longtime monitoring of available files on the network.
Other features include:
- Multiple searches.
- Ultrapeer and compression technology for reduced bandwidth.
- Integrated chat.
- Browse host support.
- Bitzi metadata lookup.
- MAGMA support.

apt4rpm 0.69.3
apt4rpm creates an apt, yum, or metadata repository from a random RPM directory. more>>
apt4rpm creates an apt, yum, or metadata repository from a random RPM directory.
Main features:
- Support for multiple distributions/versions/architectures in a single apt, yum or metadata repository.
- "Atomic" switching from an old apt repository to the newly created one.
- Analyzes the rpm packages in the rpm repository and creates a unified rpm package name. This mechanism uses caching to speed up the creation of subsequent created apt, yum or metadata repositories. The rpm name, version and architecture are stored seperately in the cache. This makes it possible to easily search for 1 particular rpm throughout the whole apt repository.
- Can create signed repositories.
- Can mirror download server directories after downloading the repositories will be created.
- If possible it will mark a package as a security update, and will put it in the "security" component of the repository.
- Provides an example sources.list file for the "file:", "ftp://" and "http://" protocols.
- The repositories are created with links from the rpm repository. The rpm repository can have any format. Rpms can be filtered with accept/reject rules.
- Creates seperated binary, source, delta and patch rpms components automatically.
- XML formatted config file
- The source-rpm apt components can be provided in a flat or noflat structure. Switching between those 2 can be performed without problem.
- A most recent rpm list can be created for each component.
- A contents list is created for the whole apt repository.

MetaFS 0.1.5
MetaFS is an advanced filesystem metadata layer. more>>
MetaFS is a daemon for Linux (and Linux only) that allows you to access information about your files (such as MP3 tags or JPEGs EXIF tags) easily and consistently using extended attributes.
MetaFS project also allows you to perform fast searches using this information. MetaFS is extensible, so anyone can write plugins to access new types of metadata.
MetaFS uses the FUSE library to act as a layer between user programs and the filesystem, which allows indexes to be kept up-to-date in realtime, and eliminates the need for a specialized metadata API.
It provides custom extended attributes (including ACLs) for those filesystems that dont have them, and it provides a plugin infrastructure which can be extended to provide searching and expose file-format-specific metadata (e.g. ID3 or EXIF tags) as extended attributes.
Plugins which are planned include:
- provide stat() data as extended attributes [implemented]
- allow users to set their own EAs and ACLs [implemented]
- automatic MIME type detection (which is set in an EA) based on the files contents and extension [implemented]
- extract metadata from MP3 and Ogg files as EAs
- indexing interface to store metadata
- search interface to quickly locate files using this metadata (I am considering whether or not it is feasible to allow users create Evolution-like vFolders for their searches. I am also considering the security implications of searching; users should not see search results for other users private data.)

MindRaider 0.512 EAP
MindRaider is Semantic Web outliner. more>>
MindRaider is Semantic Web outliner. MindRaider aims to connect the tradition of outline editors with emerging technologies. MindRaider mission is to organize not only the content of your hard drive but also your cognitive base and social relationships in a way that enables quick navigation, concise representation and inferencing.
There are basically two pieces of the Semantic Web which user agent should accomplish - annotating content with metadata, and doing stuff with that metadata. MindRaider is here to help you with correlation of information related to particular thought. You must change your stereotypes.
Start with your personal resources like files, links, thoughts, friends, etc. These resources can be in turn represented as/associated with Concepts that are organized to Notebooks.
On top of the Concepts within a Notebook is built (RDF based) metadata layer that enables MindRaider to provide various Notebook facets (flat/hierarchical/graph-oriented but also semantic based views). Notebooks are further organized to Folders allowing you to build custom thematical domains.
Enhancements:
- New features include localization support, Gnowsis integration, OneNote like annotations, Java 1.5 support, and more.

Rhizome Wiki 0.6.0
Rhizome is a Wiki-like content management and delivery system that exposes the entire site. more>>
Rhizome is a Wiki-like content management and delivery system that exposes the entire site -- content, structure, and metadata as editable RDF. This means that instead of just creating a site with URLs that correspond to a page of HTML, with Rhizome you can create URLs that represent just about anything, such as:
- structural components of content (such as a bullet point or a definition).
- abstract entities that can be presented in different ways depending on the context.
- relationships between entities or content, such as annotations or categories.
Rhizome is designed to enable non-technical users to create these representations in an easy, ad-hoc manner. To this end, it includes a text formatting language which similar to a Wikis but lets you author arbitrary XML content and RDF metadata. And for developers, this allows both content and structure to be easily repurposed and complex web applications rapidly developed.
The long-term vision is that each Rhizome site will intertwine together, forming an emergent fuzzy taxonomy over a peer-to-peer network.
The nearer-term goals of Rhizome are:
- To allow (relatively) non-technical folk to create "Semantic web"-enabled web sites.
- To provide a platform for the rapid-development of web applications
- To provide a test-bed for experimenting with new forms of collaborative knowledge production and communication
- A showcase and test-bed for its underlying technologies: Rx4RDF, ZML, and Raccoon
Main features:
Wiki ease
- All the functionality of a Wiki: public and automatic creation of pages and links using simple text formatting rules
- But the same formatting rules can used to author arbitrary HTML, XML and RDF
- And you can create and edit not just content but also the metadata, site structure and appearance, even application behavior
- Including dynamic pages: supports XSLT, RxSLT, Python, RxUpdate
- Thus enabling dynamic, rule and context based presentation of content
Advanced Content Management functionality
- pages can consist of any content: xml, html, binary, etc.
- content, metadata and site structure is a stored as RDF: enabling it be repurposable, human editable, application agnostic, etc.
- flexible authorization and security model
- staging/release workflow
- native versioning of content and metadata, conflict detection
- supports local file system or browser-based development
- can generate static websites
- import/export of content and metadata
- flexible backend: supports multiple RDF engines (Redland, 4Suite, RDFLib) with multiple datastores: file based, SQL databases, embeddable databases (Sleepycat, Metakit)
XHTML or arbitrary XML can be authored in ZML in a manner very similar to Wiki text formatting rules. Rhizome comes with built-in support for Apache Forrest document types and has preliminary support for DocBook. You can also easily view and edit RDF metadata for the site using RxML.
Almost all of Rhizomes functionality can be found its dynamic pages, which are written in RxSLT, XSLT, and RxUpdate. These can be edited like any other page, making it easy to add and change functionality without restarting the server. You can use RxUpdate to migrate the underlying schema at run-time. Rhizome supports fine-grained authorization and versioning of both metadata and content, so you have some guard rails too.
Enhancements:
- This release adds "shredding": a framework (including GRDDL support) for extracting RDF from content and maintaining the relationship between them over time.
- It also includes better support for viewing and editing RDF directly with most RDF formats.
- There are also several UI enhancements, including a new UI for managing users and roles, more Wiki features, and page and comment spam detection via the Akismet service.
- Last but not least, it is several times faster than previous releases.

fakedbfs 2.0.0
fakedbfs is a suite of tools and a library for cataloguing files. more>>
fakedbfs is a suite of tools and a main library for cataloguing files. Anything that is a file can be catalogued along with metadata. The metadata is then searchable by various querying facilities. fakedbfs project uses SQLite to store and search data.
It is called "fakedbfs" (fake database filesystem) because its not a real DBFS such as the upcoming WinFS, or other OS-tied FSes that live in the kernel. Instead, it is completely in userland.
It was inspired by BFS (which doesnt do content indexing, only metadata). It is written completely in portable, ANSI C (barring the various bindings and other such utilities, or stuff using FTS and the stat(2) syscall [I plan on porting FTS as a built-in feature for platforms that dont support it]). If SQLite and a C compiler run on the platform, fakedbfs should be able to as well. In theory. Ish.
It was primarily developed on FreeBSD.
The main library can be used by any application; full API docs should be coming soon (when I find the time). Applications are virtually unlimited: desktop music/photo indexing, server content indexing, etc.
The core fakedbfs distribution consists of the following:
libfakedbfs - the main library with all querying, indexing, and specfile functions. Has all SQLite bindings
fquery - a commandline utility to query the database.
findex - a commandline utility to index files and directories. This can be either run manually or from a cron job.
fcreatedb - the initial database creation and specfile adding utility.
feditdb - a utility to edit the database (not in 1.0, should be in 1.1)
Various default specfiles, defining what metadata the catalogue contains
Indexing consists of a couple parts. Theres the indexer itself, which does cataloguing of each file, and then there are the metadata plugins.
These plugins, designed specifically for certain specfiles, know how to extract metadata from the files themselves (for example ID3/EXIF tags, filename formats). findex can also ask the user for manual input for each field.
Enhancements:
- This release incorporates many new features and changes, such as a completely revamped API in libfakedbfs, the beginnings of support for ficl plugins, numerous bugfixes, the addition of a working fedit utility, database layout changes, and improvements to the querying subsystem.

libfakedbfs - the main library with all querying, indexing, and specfile functions.
