Kiwi 7.04

Kiwi 7.04

Kiwi is a free operating system based on Ubuntu Linux primarily targeted at users in Romania. more>>
Kiwi is a free operating system based on Ubuntu Linux primarily targeted at users in Romania. The project comes on a single CD that can be used both as a live CD and for installing on the hard drive.
Main features:
- Localization and spell-checkers for Romanian and Hungarian
- Better support for connecting to local ADSL providers (Romtelecom and RDS)
- NTFS write support via ntfs-3g on both the liveCD and on the installed system
- Adobe Flash 9 web-plugin
- Support for proprietary audio and video codecs
- Support for DVD playback using totem-xine (including encrypted DVDs)
- Miscellaneous apps (Inkscape for vector drawing, mc, vim)
- Customized artwork based on the original Ubuntu one
- Windows applications and language packs for languages not mentioned above were removed to make space
Why include proprietary software and non-open multimedia codecs?
We believe that while free data formats and free software are preferable to closed ones, compromises are acceptable when the alternative means even less freedom. Wed rather have our users run a combination of free operating system and proprietary codecs than only proprietary operating systems and software.
What is the relation to Ubuntu?
We plan on releasing versions keeping up with the latest Ubuntu. Features that are deemed appropriate for Ubuntu will be proposed for inclusion as we try to keep the differences contained to the packages that for various reasons are not included in Ubuntu.
Who develops Kiwi?
Most of the development work on Kiwi is supported by Startx SRL. Obviously the vast majority of what is on the CD is the work of the free software community of volunteers and paid developers who make Ubuntu, Debian, GNOME, Xorg, GNU/Linux and the rest of the free software ecosystem. The translations are the work of the Romanian and Hungarian free software localization teams and individual translators.

furious_tv 1.4

furious_tv 1.4

furious_tv is a set of tools to take XMLTV TV listings and enable a UNIX system to automatically record programs of a TV card. more>>
furious_tv is a set of tools to take XMLTV TV listings and enable a UNIX system to automatically record programs off of a TV card. It is written in C and uses a SAX parser for maximum speed and efficiency.
Enhancements:
- This version of furious_tv fixes a few miscellaneous bugs in the code and also adds support for non-US TV listings. Apparently in countries other than the US, the channel numbers vary a great deal (even in small areas), so non-US users needed a way to change channel numbers and have those changes persist when new listings were loaded into the database.
- Version 1.4 adds an option to ftv_listings ("-r") that instructs the parser to use the channel numbers in the listings to override the channel numbers in the database. This is really only a good idea if the listings probably have the correct channel numbers (e.g. US listings obtained using XMLTVs tv_grab_na grabber).
- One last point to keep in mind is that the channel numbers are preserved by looking at the channel names, so the channel names should not be changed manually because then ftv_listings will not recognize the channel as already in the database.

SetLockFile filename default value: none context: Directory or Location effect: Enables the conditional lock for a location. The web server will check for the existence of the file each time it will access the concerned documents. If it finds it, it will return a 503 (Service unavailable) HTTP status code. remarks: if filename is a null string (""), conditional lock will be disabled for this class of documents. LockBypass host1 host2 ... default value: none context: Directory or Location effect: Allows access from an host, even if locked. remarks: hostnames can be either real hostnames (www.hp.com) or domain names (.hp.com).
Known bugs:
wrong access rights can confuse the test of the lock file (access denied is equivalent to not found).
webuser (the user who runs the web daemon) should have read access to the lock file to avoid this behaviour.

IQ bot 5.9.1

IQ bot 5.9.1

IQ is an intelligent, modular IRC robot written in PHP. more>>
IQ has been my pet project since September 2003. IQ is an intelligent, modular IRC robot written in PHP. I wrote the original branch, 0.1.x, back in late 2003, and developed it and modules for it until early 2004. At some point in June 2004, I became inspired to rewrite the bots core and start the 0.9.x branch.
The new (0.9.x) branch of IQ is just about an entire rewrite of the original, with better coding techniques, and usage of object oriented PHP. Bugs from the original have been corrected, and dozens of new features have been added. My goal with IQ is to create a truly multi-purpose IRC bot that may be easily coded for, while keeping the core relatively light-weight.
IQ is built from modules and can dynamically load and unload modules. Writing modules for the bot is simple, and any PHP developer should be able to write his or her own modules to have the bot act as needed. Modules utilize a binding system (modeled after that used by eggdrop), which create triggers that can be executed upon any regular event (msg, join, kick, nick, quit, part, etc), as well as other bot-specific events (idle, connect, disconnect), and call lambda-style functions in the module to perform the desired actions.
Enhancements:
- Fixed case-sensitivity issues with dancer ircd
- Improved mode checking for non-hybrid ircds
- Miscellaneous bug fixes and code cleanups
- Added Database class for support for MySQL and pgSQL database servers
- Headlines module removed
- Added currency module
- Added idletime module
- Disallowed running as root
