Kismet application is an 802.11 layer2 wireless network detector, sniffer, and intrusion detection system. Kismet will work with any wireless card which supports raw monitoring (rfmon) mode, and can sniff 802.11b, 802.11a, and 802.11g traffic.
Kismet identifies networks by passively collecting packets and detecting standard named networks, detecting (and given time, decloaking) hidden networks, and infering the presence of nonbeaconing networks via data traffic.
Main features:
- Ethereal/Tcpdump compatible data logging
- Airsnort compatible weak-iv packet logging
- Network IP range detection
- Built-in channel hopping and multicard split channel hopping
- Hidden network SSID decloaking
- Graphical mapping of networks
- Client/Server architecture allows multiple clients to view a single
- Kismet server simultaneously
- Manufacturer and model identification of access points and clients
- Detection of known default access point configurations
- Runtime decoding of WEP packets for known networks
- Named pipe output for integration with other tools, such as a layer3 IDS like Snort
- Multiplexing of multiple simultaneous capture sources on a single Kismet instance
- Distributed remote drone sniffing
- XML output
- Over 20 supported card types
Enhancements:
- Additional IDS alerts, fixes for multiple crashes, better BSD support, Win32 native capture with Cace AirPcap devices, Nokia 770/800 support, and other minor updates.

NetBSD LiveCD 2007
NetBSD LiveCD is a bootable LiveCD containing the NetBSD/i386 system. more>>
NetBSD LiveCD is a bootable ISO image contains NetBSD 3.99.7 and allows you to boot NetBSD/i386 -current without having to install to a hard disk.
The LiveCD was initially intended to be a rescue cdrom, but is now capable of much more.
The default desktop environment is KDE. But there is another window manager available: pekwm.
The LiveCD will automatically try to obtain an IP address via DHCP. If that fails, you must manually configure your network settings. For information on this, please see the NetBSD Guide.
There are two users: root and user. The password for both is NetBSD. If you are logged in as user, you can use sudo(8).

Diagnotep 2007.1
Diagnotep is an affliction search engine to help diagnose medical problems. more>>
Diagnotep is an affliction search engine to help diagnose medical problems. Diagnotep project works in the mozilla browser, it might not work properly in other browsers. This is version 2007.1. To run the entire engine on your machine for a faster search, unzip the health archive into a folder and then open the file "health_diagnotep.html" with a browser.
The program is under the GPL license which basically welcomes you to copy or modify this and allows anyone else to copy or modify your version if you make it public. The text is under the GNU Free Documentation License which allows you to copy or modify this and allows anyone else to copy or modify your version if you make it public.
The program searches among the symptoms of a medical database, so the results will only be medical afflictions. There are about 1,800 afflictions in the database, so no matter how deep the search depth and how many symptoms are entered, there will be at most about 1,800 results. The links from the results page point to affliction pages which are either public domain government pages or GNU Free Documentation License pages.
The greatest advantage of the diagnotep search engine is that it searches only medical affliction pages, so the results are not cluttered with pages which are not about health. Another advantage is that the program searches only the symptom part of the affliction pages, so the results are not cluttered with unrelated medical pages. The greatest disadvantage of diagnotep is that it searches a medical database which is large, but incomplete; it does not include all the medical pages on the internet. Another disadvantage is that diagnotep has a size of about 200 kilobytes and so takes about 30 seconds to load on a 56k dialup modem.
Diagnotep development is ongoing and in the future it is hoped that there will be expanded treatment sections for common afflictions, that more afflictions will be added to the medical database and that the 200 kB size of the diagnotep script will be reduced for faster loading.

Obol 0.2007.01.19
Obol is part of a project to investigate properties of security protocols. more>>
Obol is part of a project to investigate properties of security protocols, what they are, how they behave, how they interact, how to deal with them. The Obol language grew out of a desire to escape the distractions of low-level implementation efforts, and the need to experiment and express security protocols as independent programs, closer to the level on which security protocols are analysed.
Whats it all about?
Obol is a specialized high-level programming language for security protocols. The idea is to program closer to the abstractions used to describe and analyze security protocols, and leave all the nasty details to the runtime. The runtime will then handle "mundane" issues such as message representation, communication, cryptographic transformations and so on.
Whats the point of that?
By focusing on the security aspects of the protocol being implemented, one avoid the typical entanglement of security protocol code, low-level cryptographic functions, and application logic. Obol keeps these three aspects separate, resulting in a clean, highly modular and very flexible security protocol framework.
Think of it as trying to do for security protocols what SQL did for databases.
Whats it implemented in?
The most mature (and actively developed) runtime version is implemented in Java, using ANTLR for the parsing. Earlier prototypes were implemented in Common Lisp and Python.
What can it be used for?
Security protocols, or any protocol structure that involve composition and transformation. Obol is interpreted, and protocols can very easily be upgraded. The runtimes modular structure allows for new message representation formats, cryptographic primitives, communication technology and so on, to be added dynamically.
What does it look like?
As an example, consider the typical way a message in a security protocol is described:
A ? B: A, B, {A, B, Na}Kab
The above means that A sends B a message consisting of the senders name, the intended recipients name, and then encrypts a repetition of the names along with a nonce Na(random value) using the shared-key Kab. We have not made the assumption that Obol must run on both protocol endpoints, so we must implement both sides (both A and B):
A side (send B A B (encrypt Kab A B Na)
B side (receive A A B (decrypt Kab A B *Na))
In the above example we assume that A and B know about each other, and that share the key Kab. However, the nonce Na is unknown to B, so B cannot recognize it, but can assign the unknown datum to a symbol, which is what the *Na construct does.
How can Obol be used?
An application must connect to the Obol runtime and request that it starts an Obol protocol, or script. The application receives a handle which it can use to communicate with the script instance, i.e. starting and stopping the protocol execution, setting and retrieving values the script requires and provides.
Enhancements:
Fixes:
- Jar file trouble
- robustness issues
- symbol property dereferencing

Arabica January 2007
Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2 implementation. more>>
Arabica is a C++ XML parser toolkit that has a full SAX2 implementation (the Simple API for XML), including the optional interfaces and helper classes. It also implements the W3C DOM (Document Object Model) Level 2.0 Core, together with XPath 1.0.
It delivers UTF-8 encoded std::strings or UCS-2 std::wstrings, but can also accommodate custom string types and alternative encodings. Arabica provides uniform SAX2 wrappers for the expat parser, Xerces, libxml, and the Microsoft XML parser COM component.
Enhancements:
- Further improvements were made to the configure system.
- The build can now be configured without the Boost libraries, in which case the XPath components are skipped.
- Parser detection is improved, as is detecting the correct libraries for sockets.
- TreeWalker and NodeFilter were added.
- MSXML version checking was beefed up.
- Buffering in convertstream was reworked to reduce the number of dynamic allocations.
- LexicalHandler and DeclHandler are promoted to be part of the XMLReader interface.

BNF for Java project is a parser/generator, or compiler-compiler. The parser reads your input text, or "terminals", specified by your BNF syntax.
The parser features indefinate look-ahead and back-track. As the grammar parses your file, it builds a parse-tree which carries the content in the structure of your grammar. Then the parse-tree is traversed, driving the output generators the you wrote in Java.
The compiler uses several files to control the project, so BNF for Java provides a Swing GUI to help you manage the BNF, Java, and XML files.
