Form Spam Bot Blocker is a PHP class that can generate forms that prevent submission by spam robots without requiring human users to enter special values.
The project generates hidden inputs for forms that have special values that are verified on the server after the form is submitted to eventually detect whether the form was sent by a spam robot.
The class can generate an hidden input that contains an encoded value of the user browser, user computer IP address and the current time.
The class verifies whether these browser name and IP address are still the same, and also whether the form is being submitted by a normal time interval after it was create, like when it is submitted by a real human user.
The class also generates a text input that are invisible for the user. A human user would not fill this input. If the input is submitted with a value, it was certainly a robot.
When the class detects a situation that demonstrates the form was submitted by a robot, the application should not accept the form submission.

popcheck is a SuperKaramba theme that displayes the most recent 20 e-mails received at a POP account that are still awaiting download.
Queries the POP server once per minute and as new e-mails as they arrive.
The sender and the title are displayed.
You must configure the hostname and username/password info in the popcheck.py file.
You can include a list of substrings, such that if one of them is found in a new mail, an audible alert will sound. This allows you to know when new mail from particular people has arived.
The default alert sound is the word "MAIL" in Morse code. You can change this in the popcheck.py file by pointing to a different alert_file, or by replacing the included mail.ogg file with a different sound.
Clicking on an e-mail will cause popcheck to download the beginning of the file and display it in a kdialog message box. This way you can look at the start of an e-mail (up to 30 lines) without opening your e-mail client to download the message.

ADS roughly 1,000,000 scanned pages contain numerous diagrams and figures for which the original data sets are lost or inaccessible. Having scans for the figures invites digitizing the data points to recover at least a part of these data.
Performing this digitization automatically is still beyond the capabilities of current OCR systems, but the computer can ease this process for a human.
This was the starting point for Dexter, a Java applet that runs in the users browsers and provides an interface for selecting the part of the page that is of interest. On that selection, coordinate axes, points and error bars can be marked and, of course, corrected. [...]
In the future, we plan to implement some recognition algorithms that would, e.g., trace a line for the user or automatically search for markers.
