SLAX Boot CD is used to boot SLAX from USB devices on computers which cant boot from USB directly. SLAX Boot CD can be also used to boot SLAX from ISO file on disk.
Enhancements:

- probeusb parameter now sleeps delay_use+1 seconds to wait for USB devices
- (this usually defaults to 6 seconds)

boot-dvd project contains a couple of Perl-scripts that can be used to create a custom DVD-ISO image (to be burned), that contains user selected Linux boot/live-CD images (only ISOLINUX boot loader supported) in a handy GRUB menu.

IOSN Live CD is an bootable CD that boots into a usable and fully featured Linux Desktop. In addition to standard FOSS productivity and multimedia applications, it is bundled with a User Guide to Using the Linux Desktop in print and multimedia formats as well as several IOSN Free/Open Source Software Primers.

Note: This is a beta release.

APODIO project is a Mandriva-based specialist live CD designed for musicians and multimedia enthusiasts.

The new version 4.2.2 is considered a test release; it contains a large collection of software for audio, video and graphics manipulation.

The APODIO live CD boots into French by default, but English and a number of other languages are also supported.

The default window manager is the light-weight PWM, with OroboROX provided as an alternative.

The APODIO project was started in 2003 by the APO33 association It has two objectives : First : to create a live CD for PC, a complete audio station under GNU/Linux that could quickly be installed on the hard disk, or work straight away as a CD, with a Ram of at least 320 Mo, and practical and simple administration tools.

The 3.0.9 April 2003 APODIO version of the live CD immediately recognizes and adjusts itself to your equipment, your sound and graphic display adapters and your eventual hard disk partitions. It offers various interfaces, such as Gnome, Rox, Fluxbox... and a choice of software to work on sound. It is based on the GNU/Linux Mandrake 10.0 distribution and on the mklicecd group scripts for the creation of the live CD or of the hard disk.

The second objective is to give some sort of permanence to part of our work, while adhering to the principles of GNU/GPL. Unlike most other distributions that tend to drift too far away from the Linux Debian/RedHat/Mandrake communities, we wished to remain close to Mandriva, to allow users to reclaim the tools for themselves.

From the start, APODIO was not meant to become a finished or final product, but rather, a toolbox, more adapted to the common user than to the developer ; more practical than technical. Since we follow closely the Mandriva platform, we can concentrate more on what we find interesting in the first place, while making sure that our work will keep up with changes in hardware and software.

The complete remade July 2005 APODIO-4 version utilizes less RAM than the V3 ; it is based on - and can be synchronised with – Mandriva 2006 (cooker). Some video processing software has been added and the PureData base has been considerably increased.

We now have a practical base in the evolution of the live CD APODIO on Mandriva and new projects are in progress : the Poulpe (Octopus), a live CD that can be the basis for a sound and plastic installation, in various places linked by web-radio flows. Ref. the site : (http://www.apo33.org/poulpe) The Ubik, the live CD for a standby or a disabled situation, becomes a sound and video sculpture, connected to any other Ubik. It can be responsive to a network or to a keyboard/mouse set. Each user can either modify the CD base or the PureData patches found in a known directory in a disc, usb, fp... and thus personify his/her Ubik.

The CryptoBox is a Debian/Linux based live-cd. CryptoBox CD boots up, starting a secure fileserver.
Even non-technical users are able to store their data on its encrypted harddisk. There is no special knowledge about cryptography or servers required at all.
The CryptoBox is fully controllable via your web browser.
Version 0.2 is fully usable and runs stable. From now on were just adding features and translations (atm english, german, slovenian).
Enhancements:
- Support for more than one hard disk was added.
- Manual partitioning is allowed.
- LUKS is used for hard disk encryption.
- Plaintext partitions are supported.
- The time and date can be changed.
- Flexible feature management was implemented to enable and disable specific plugins.
- Prepared RAID partitions are used.

FCCU GNU/Linux Forensic Bootable CD is a bootable CD based on KNOPPIX that contains a lot of tools suitable for computer forensic investigatins, including bash scripts.
FCCU GNU/Linux Forensic Boot CDs main purpose is to create images of devices prior to analysis, and it is used by the Belgian Federal Computer Crime Unit.
Main features:
- This CD is based on KNOPPIX by Klauss Knopper.
- It is a remaster that I made to use at my work as a computer forensic investigator.
- Its main purpose is to create images copies of devices before analyse.
- It does not use a lot of cpu cycles for unnecessary programs, that is why it drops you to a shell right after the boot.
- It recognizes lots of hardware (Thanks to Klauss Knopper).
- It leaves the target devices unaltered (It does not use the swap partitions found on the devices).
- It contains a lot of tools with forensic purpose.
Enhancements:
- This release adds a new set of tools that allow an investigator to capture the memory from another host trough the Firewire bus, even if the target host is an MS Windows box.
- A new tool to retrieve images from Thumbs.db (MS win thumbnails cache) was added.
- Rdd, a new forensic image acquisition tool, was added.
- A lot of other tools were added and upgraded.

SLAX Popcorn Edition is a pocket operating system which fits even 128MB USB Flash Drives! SLAX Popcorn Edition contains XFce desktop, Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird, XMMS, AbiWord & Gaim.
This special modification of the SLAX live CD, Popcorn Edition, has been released after a week of beta testing.

SLAX is a small bootable CD containing the Linux operating system. It runs Linux directly from the CD (or USB) without installing.
The Live CD described here is based on the Slackware Linux distribution and is downloadable from this website as an ISO image.
The primary goal of SLAX is to provide a wide collection of useful software while keeping the cds image small enough to be written to a 185 MB CD-R(W) medium (small 8 cm CD). SLAX boots directly from the CD or USB devices and it provides a full featured Linux operating system.
All your available partitions and data storage devices (CD-ROM, USB storage devices, etc.) should be recognized at boot and should be mounted to /mnt/xx. As an example, "disc0part1" may be assigned to the first partition on your primary hard drive, "disc1part1" for your USB storage device, or "cdrom0" for your CD-ROM drive. SLAX will never write anything to the mounted devices. Mounting is safe and does not change the data.
After booting, you should be able to login as a "root", with the password "toor"; both without quotes, of course :)
When logged in, you have many options. At the shell prompt, you may start Midnight Commander (type "mc" to the console), play some music from your hard drive (type "play /mnt/path/file.mp3"), adjust your audio volume (type "alsamixer"), configure IP address (type "netconfig") or browse web pages with the text-based browser (type "lynx http://url").
To start the graphical environment included with SLAX, type "gui" (for graphical user interface). It will attempt to autoconfigure your graphics card, monitor, keyboard and mice, and if successful it will run an X session with KDE. Im pretty sure that you will know how to get around at this point. :-) Use "guisafe" instead of "gui" for safe-mode (VESA framebuffer) without autodetection.
In the unfortunate case your mouse doesnt work, try to move it for a few seconds to see if it will be autodetected. If it isnt, shut down Xwindow (press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) and start it again. If this wont help then you are using something I have not included in the autoconfiguration process (COM2 mouse?). If you are comfortable with bash, or you atleast understand how to make your favorite mouse function under Linux, try to modify the symbolic link /dev/mouse manually.
If you dont like the autoconfigured screen resolution, refresh rate, or the K Desktop Environment, start "gui" with some additional options. Try for example "gui 800x600 60", where 800x600 is the desired screen resolution and 60 is the desired refresh rate. Fluxbox is one of the other window managers included and may be called with "guifast" or "gui fluxbox". In any event, type "gui --help" for more information.
All scripts and source code are available and can be used to build your own Live CD.
SLAX is available as an ISO image of the CD. It fits on small 8cm CD-R(W). Burn it with your favorite cd-writing software and then boot from the CD.
You might want to check your BIOS to assure its set to boot the CD prior the disc.

BUM - Boot-Up Manager is a Perl-Gtk2 application to handle runlevels configuration of any debian derivative system.

With this program the user will easily start and stop boot-up scripts, without the necessity to handle thru complex links and permissions.

Boot-Up Manager has been tested on an Ubuntu 05.04 release, but as it only relies on Perl-Gtk2 libraries, it can be run on any Debian-like system.
