CeGCC 0.50
CeGCC is a project that offers cross-development tools for Windows CE (PocketPC). more>>
CeGCC is a project that offers cross-development tools for Windows CE (PocketPC). CeGCC is a bundle of other free software projects, specifically combined and configured for this goal. You can create applications for PocketPC from your Linux or Cygwin PC using these tools.
Were aiming at providing a consistent and working set of development tools that generate code for Windows CE devices such as PDAs and smart phones. Our intended development platforms are the cygwin environment and GNU/Linux systems.
Enhancements:
- First stable release of the CeGCC tool family : - arm-wince-mingw32ce-* tools (recommended) - arm-wince-cegcc-* tools (includes unix-like layer) Note that all the RPM files are created on a Mandriva Linux system. They probably work on other distributions, this note is for informational purposes (and because the new release script apparently failed to name the files properly).

eTcl 1.0 RC22
eTcl is a batteries-included , thread-enabled Tcl/Tk runtime, available as a single standalone executable. more>>
eTcl is a "batteries-included", thread-enabled Tcl/Tk runtime, available as a single standalone executable. eTcl includes several popular extensions (Sqlite, Thread, Zlib, ...), together with a Tcl wrapper for the Pixane image processing library.
Installation:
Just copy executable wherever you want on your device (memory or storage card), and launch it.
- Unobstrusive executable. No registry to set, no external dependencies.
- Standalone executable. Tcl and Tk scripts packed into executable (using VFS). Optimized startup time.
New Tcl user experience on PocketPC
- Optimized for XScale devices
- Faster Arc/Chord/Pie emulation, improved for ARM architecture without FPU
- Efficient WSAAsyncSelect() emulation. Sockets, and fileevents on sockets, should be fully functionnal (in both client and server modes)
- Support for native menu
- Improved native look and feel.
- Windows Mobile specific extension: manage SIP, change (X) button action (closing Correct handling of mouse (actually touchscreen) events
- Support for intercepting hotkeys (calendar, notes, etc...)
- New porting approach, based on very minor changes to generic Win32 port (and no changes to generic part of Tcl/Tk distrib).
- Patch to Tcl or Tk distribution is only few kilobytes large, everything else has been moved into a minimal emulation library. This should allow us to keep synced with future Tcl/Tk release.
- Easy build process. Nothing but Evc4 and a native Tcl interpreter required to build binaries for all target architectures supported by Evc (Cygwin, external libraries, etc... not required)
- Works fine into Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 Emulator. Debugging code made easier
Included native extensions:
- Pixane: script your image transformation, support for reading and writing several popular image formats (PNG, JPEG), support for TrueType fonts
- Sqlite 3: a self-contained, embeddable, zero-configuration SQL database engine
- Zlib: native deflate/inflate support
- Zipfs: easily Mount your ZIP files into Tcl Virtual Filesystem
Included Pure Tcl extensions:
- EvoTcl: A very large set of tcl utilities (OOP, Database, HTML/XML parsing, ...). See http://www.evolane.com/software/evotcl/
Enhancements:
- This release focuses on performance optimization (especially for WinCE) and code stabilization.
- It adds support for reading tclkits, together with an automatic tclkit to eTcl kit converter.
- It embeds up-to-date versions of several built-in packages, such as sqlite 3.4.1, libpng 1.2.18, and tile and tkhtml3 CVS snapshots.
- Tile has been moved into the normal version.
- The Mac OS X bundle declares associations so eTcl kits can be launched directly from the Finder.
- Binaries for linux-powerpc have been made compatible with Linux on Playstation 3.

Xcerdisp 1.15.1159
Xcerdisp is an X windows version of Microsofts Pocket PC Remote Display Control powertoy (cerdisp). more>>
Xcerdisp is an X windows version of Microsofts Pocket PC Remote Display Control powertoy (cerdisp). Xcerdisp project allows you to access your Pocket PC device from your Unix desktop.
After getting my PocketPC, and installing Microsofts Remote Display Control PowerToy (cerdisp) I wondered if I could access the PocketPC data from my unix workstation.
I almost immediately found the SynCE project, and using their guide on getting the WinCE device connected via PPP, I used a combination of tcpdump and netcat to reverse engineer the data stream coming from cerdisp, and wrote a small X client that displays and controls it.
Enhancements:
- This release adds support for 8-bit palette devices and a new screenshot feature.

JCards project is a free Java application designed to store and manage data in any format that the user defines. more>>
JCards project is a free Java application designed to store and manage data in any format that the user defines. Instead of having multiple applications to manage passwords, music databases, shopping lists, etc.
JCards allows the user to define a database that contains the fields they want and to customise it in many ways. This is all accomplished via an easy to use interface that requires no understanding of SQL or any other database jargon; in effect JCards is a front-end on to a flat-file database.
JCards was initially developed to run on a Sharp Zaurus SL-5x00 PDA, but will also run on any PocketPC PDA that has a JVM installed.
Main features:
- Define multiple databases
- Define the fields that you want
- Define categories (drop down lists)
- Counters

Pixane 0.5
Pixane is a library for image handling and transformation. more>>
Pixane is a library for image handling and transformation. The library supports a large number of formats in both reading and writing modes.
Pixane has been designed to be used from a dynamic language like Tcl. It makes possible and easy to generate and transform images in scripts, and is especially useful for web developers, since it can be called as CGI.
See pixane and pixfont for reference on how to use Pixane from Tcl scripts.
Pixane standalone distribution is made of dynamic libraries with no external dependencies. It requires no installation at all, except copying the correct dynamic library for your platform anywhere and loading it into your Tcl interpreter. All shared libraries are libc agnostic as much as possible. Especially on Linux platform, all libraries should be loadable in either a uClibc or glibc based interpreter, or in tclkit.
Pixane is also part of ETcl distribution, making it easy to deploy on a large variety of platforms, including Win32, Linux and Windows Mobile 2003 (aka PocketPC).
Enhancements:
- Dfont support on Mac OS X was added.
- A bug with reading multi-frame GIF images with local palettes was fixed.
- A larger set of compositing operators was implemented.

gpac 0.4.4
gpac is a multimedia framework for MPEG-4, VRML, X3D, ... more>>
GPAC is an implementation of the MPEG-4 Systems standard (ISO/IEC 14496-1) developed from scratch in ANSI C.
The main development goal is to provide a clean (a.k.a. readable by as many people as possible), small and flexible alternative to the MPEG-4 Systems reference software (known as IM1 and distributed in ISO/IEC 14496-5). The MPEG-4 Reference software is indeed a very large piece of software, designed to verify the standard rather than provide a small, production-stable software.
GPAC is written in ANSI C for portability reasons (embedded platforms and DSPs) with a simple goal: keep the memory footprint as low as possible.
The second development goal is to achieve integration of recent multimedia standards (SVG/SMIL, VRML, X3D, SWF, etc) into a single framework. This stage is still under drafting but has started with VRML97 support.
GPAC already features 2D and 3D multimedia playback, MPEG-4 Systems encoders/multiplexers and publishing tools for content distribution.
GPAC is licensed under the GNU General Public License (see FAQ).
The current GPAC release (0.2.3) already covers a very large part of the standard, and features what can probably be seen as the most advanced and robust 2D MPEG-4 Player available worldwide, as well as a decent 3D MPEG-4/VRML player with some X3D support.
GPAC is currently running under Windows, Linux platforms - WindowsCE/PocketPC platform is not actively maintained but GPAC 0.2.3 is running on an iPaq device.
Main features:
- MP4 and 3GPP file reading, both local and through http download (QuickTime FastStart).
- MP3 (local and http) and ShoutCast.
- AAC file reading and AAC http streaming (needs latest faad2 cvs tarball).
- Media Codecs: MPEG-4 Visual Simple Profile, MPEG-4 Audio AAC, JPEG, PNG, AMR audio and all codecs supported by the FFMPEG library (including AVC/H264).
- All media containers supported by the FFMPEG library: avi, mpeg, vob, etc...
- Xiph.org Media: Ogg file format (including http read and Icecast), Vorbis audio and Theora video.
- 3GPP Timed Text / MPEG-4 Streaming Text.
- Streaming support: RTP and RTSP/SDP for MPEG-4 Visual/Audio, MPEG-1/2 audio and video, 3GPP timed text, AMR audio and H263 video.
- Multichannel audio, multichannel to stereo mapper.
- MPEG-4 scenes (2D, 3D and mixed 2D/3D scenes) - read from binary format (BIFS) and textual format (BT/XMT-A).
- VRML 2.0 (VRML97) scenes (without GEO or NURBS extensions).
- X3D scenes (not complete) - supports both X3D (XML format) and X3DV (VRML format).
- JavaScript support for MPEG4/X3D/VRML.
- Compressed description (GZip) supported for all textual formats of MPEG4/X3D/VRML.
- Simple SVG scenes (not complete).
- Simple SWF (Macromedia Flash) scenes (no ActionScript, no clipping, etc).
- HTTP reading of all scene descriptions.

XMMS-Control 0.05 Beta
XMMS-Control provides a Web-based control for XMMS. more>>
XMMS-Control provides a Web-based control for XMMS.
XMMS-Control is a web-based interface for the XMMS (X MultiMedia System). XMMS is an MP3 player for Linux based systems (it also plays other media formats).
XMMS-Control is a graphical interface for the command-line utility XMMS-Shell.
Using XMMS-Control, you can control the music playng from an XMMS equipped machine from any PC on the network, including wireless laptops/PDAs!!!
Imagine being out in the pool and being able to control the music with an 802.11b based PocketPC using a browser! You can do it with XMMS-Control!
XMMS-Control has an interface for standard PCs (desktops/laptops), as well as a mobile/PDA formatted interface, for smaller screens!!!
In addition, XMMS-Control can itself be controlled via other programs (i.e., custom interfaces) using the XMMS-Control API/Hooks program! You can tie XMMS-Control into a larger system via this method.
Lets say youre creating a system for whole-house automation, and you wish to use ONE consistent interface. Well, with the XMMS-Control API/Hooks, you can!!!
Enhancements:
- Some major bugfixes... should work MUCH BETTER on most platforms that had problems before. If you had problems getting XMMS-Control installed and running, please try this new version! Please read the new installation entries in the manual!!!
- More detailed installation instructions for getting XMMS-Shell up and running (including V0.99) in the README & manual.
- Directories are now SORTED alphabetically on the file chooser screen (previously was unsorted).
- Should handle MP3 lists with file names and ID3 tags containing commas much better now (previously when a comma was encountered, the list was off by one, the name would get split, and the second half would go to the next line).

PhysicsFS 1.1.1
PhysicsFS is a library to provide abstract access to various archives. more>>
PhysicsFS is a library to provide abstract access to various archives. It is intended for use in video games, and the design was somewhat inspired by Quake 3s file subsystem. The programmer defines a "write directory" on the physical filesystem. No file writing done through the PhysicsFS API can leave that write directory, for security. For example, an embedded scripting language cannot write outside of this path if it uses PhysFS for all of its I/O, which means that untrusted scripts can run more safely.
Symbolic links can be disabled as well, for added safety. For file reading, the programmer lists directories and archives that form a "search path". Once the search path is defined, it becomes a single, transparent hierarchical filesystem.
This makes for easy access to ZIP files in the same way as you access a file directly on the disk, and it makes it easy to ship a new archive that will override a previous archive on a per-file basis. Finally, PhysicsFS gives you platform-abstracted means to determine if CD-ROMs are available, the users home directory, where in the real filesystem your program is running, etc.
You can find PhysicsFS in next :
The Build Engine can optionally be compiled with PhysicsFS support, which is good, because its standard packfile format offers no compression or long filenames.
ParaGUI is a cross platform toolkit built on Simple Directmedia Layer. That library has, among other useful stuff, a C++ wrapper for PhysicsFS. Here is an API reference for their interface to PhysicsFS.
SDL_sound comes with a technology demonstration program, playsound, that is a generalized sound file playback program. playsound can use PhysicsFS to stream audio out of archive files on-the-fly.
Falling Block Game is a Tetris-style game that uses PhysicsFS under the hood.
Excido is a 3D arcade game using PhysicsFS.
Tales of Middle Earth is an Angband-based RPG that uses PhysicsFS.
Dead Meat is a Bomberman clone with PhysicsFS support.
netPanzer, a multiplayer tactical warfare game, utilizes PhysicsFS.
Z-Raid is a River Raid clone using PhysicsFS on PocketPC devices!
Final Frontier Trader is a 2D single player space strategy, combat, and trading game powered by PhysicsFS.
Yac3De is a 3D engine that is using PhysicsFS to access Doom3 pakfiles in order to load their maps.
The maya2q3 plugin uses PhysicsFS to load shader resources from Quake 3 packages.
MindBender uses PhysicsFS for resource management.
Lincity-NG is a highly-polished SimCity clone that makes use of PhysicsFS.
Probably other software uses PhysicsFS. If you know of one, drop me a line.
Enhancements:
- The build system was changed to CMake. 7zip support was added.
- The library was made Unicode-clean and reentrant.
- Symbolic link support was added for Windows Vista, Linux, BeOS, OS/2, and Mac OS X support was improved, and Mac OS classic support was dropped.
- Many other fixes and improvements were made.
<<lessSymbolic links can be disabled as well, for added safety.

Cottage Med 2.0.1
Cottage Med is an electronic medical record software. more>>
Cottage Med is an Open Source Software that is ...
- Accessible & Affordable (Free, in fact)
- Easily Customizable and Expandable
- Designed by physicians for physicians
- Used by doctors in the U.S. and developing nations
- a template for FileMaker versions 5-7
Are you intimidated by computers? Is the cost of an electronic medical record ("EMR") beyond your reach? Are you a non-profit organization or a struggling doctor young or old? Our profession suffers with a blizzard of competing and conflicting EMRs. Bloated with unnecessary features, they cost a thiefs arm and a leg to boot. In Cottage Med you can quickly learn and easily reprogram our EMR just like visual Basic without programming experience.
Medicine has a big problem - no broadly accepted, affordable EMR standard exists. Cottage Med bridges your difficult present and unknown future by helping you step into a calmer, smoother, more productive now where you maintain full control over your information, full access to it, and the ability to smoothly export it to whatever future system or standards you choose. Open-Source EMRs are simply great solutions.
A flexible, ruggedly dependable and HIPAA-secure office system can be constructed with your old computer hardware for a few hundred dollars...with secure and wireless networking, PDA and multiple-office support, prescription writing and cross-platform compatibility built in. You should not believe the hype of the AAFP and hundreds of for-profit EMR software companies; our EMR solutions work right now, today, at no cost even without buying FileMaker.
Designed for PC, Apple and Linux environments, these templates run within the database program FileMaker (so its not a "pure" open-source project), but Cottage Med installs like childs play, develops quickly, and does the job to help improve healthcare. The templates designers offer free software support and system suggestions as needed.
Main features:
- point and click Apple/Windows interface for new users
- patient images, patient held records, pediatric growth charts
- practice statistics with powerful search functions for epidemiology and health maintenance studies
- open & industry standard database format
- wireless networking and PalmOS/PocketPC support
- links to other office programs including Microsoft Word, certificates, charts

Sync4j 2.3
Sync4j is a mobile application server and more. more>>
Sync4j is a mobile application server, and more. Sync4j includes a suite of tools to develop, deploy and manage any mobile project. It is a certified implementation of the Open Mobile Alliance Data Synchronization and Device Management protocols (OMA DS and DM, formerly known as SyncML).
Sync4j reached more than 19,000 downloads in a single month and it is supported by one of the largest mobile developers community in the world.
Main features:
- Sync4j Server: a mobile application server with connectors to SQL relational databases, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and SugarCRM.
- Sync4j Clients: applications for Outlook, Windows Mobile PocketPC, BlackBerry, Palm and iPod that you can use to synchronize your PIM data (address book and calendar) with the server
- Sync4j Email Gateway: a POP, IMAP and SMTP gateway, to support your mobile email needs.
- Sync4j Software Development Kit: tools to develop sometimes-connected mobile applications on devices (in Java - J2SE and J2ME - and C++) and to add data sources to the server
- Sync4j Device Management: an OMA DM server to remotely manage mobile devices
A wireless application needs data. The information must be available even when the device is off-line. Synchronization between multiple mobile devices and corporate servers is a fundamental component in every wireless project: data is supposed to be consistent when accessed by multiple users who are not always connected to the network.
Once a wireless application is developed, it needs to be transferred to a remote device, over-the-air. Then, it must be kept up-to-date. Application provisioning is pivotal for the success of any mobile project.
Developers of applications around the world have been looking for a platform that would make it easier to create mobile applications. IT Managers are struggling with PIM synchronization and mobile email deployments, locked by commercial vendors on a spiraling high cost structure and unable to manage a fast growing fleet of mobile devices. Sync4j is the solution they are looking for.
Open source means freedom from vendor lock-in and high quality software (thousand of eyes on the code, an enourmous community effort for testing). Sync4j is well supported by the community and the company behind it, Funambol.
Sync4j is an open source complete and unique mobile application server, addressing all the aspects of the equation:
- data synchronization, including PIM and email
- application provisioning
- device management
Sync4j is multi-device and multi-platform, running both in Windows and Linux. It runs on Tomcat and on top of J2EE application servers. It has been designed for carrier-grade deployments.
Since day one, scalability and reliability have been a clear focus of the Sync4j architecture, Sync4j is built on the Open Mobile Alliance data synchronization and device management standards (OMA DS and DM, formerly known as SyncML), thus leveraging the availability of SyncML clients pre-installed on cellular phones (such as all Symbian, Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Siemens and others). For devices where a SyncML client is missing, Sync4j provides its own clients: Outlook, Windows Mobile PocketPC, BlackBerry, Palm and iPod.
Sync4j target market is everyone looking to build, deploy and manage a mobile project:
- Developers who need to extend an existing product to the mobile world or are looking for an easy way to create new mobile applications, grabbing data from existing data sources (such as SQL databases, Exchange, Domino or SugarCRM) or adding new data sources.
- IT Managers that want to deploy a PIM and mobile email solution or just need a way to manage a fleet of mobile devices.
- Device Manufacturers, that are looking for an OMA DM or DS client.
Download includes:
Apache Tomcat 5.0, Sync4j Admin 1.2.4, Sync4j Java GUI Client 1.0.9, PIM Web Demo 1.1.7. Runs out-of-the-box.
Enhancements:
- Major bugfixes
