Load .pls playlists in MPD is a service menu for KDE that can load one or several ".pls" files (playlists) into current MPDs playlist.
If your version of MPD supports it, this works for playlists containing URLs as well, such as the ones that can be found on Shoutcast.
The program "mpc" is required for this to work.
The file is to be put in ~/.kde/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/.
Enhancements:

autopkg.pl 1.5

autopkg.pl 1.5

autopkg.pl provides a tool that generates Slackware packages from source tarballs, RPMs, and debs. more>>
autopkg.pl provides a tool that generates Slackware packages from source tarballs, RPMs, and debs.
The main goal of autopkg.pl is to build software and make a Slackware package without having to make a build script of some kind.
A single config file can specify the compile-time options for every program compiled with autopkg.pl.
The packages are created in their own build directories and never installed unless you want them installed.
A setuid-root wrapper allows normal users to create packages (with proper user/group listings and permissions) and optionally install them depending upon a list of trusted users.
Optional "hint files" can also help a broken or not-that-well-set-up package to be compiled and packaged properly (samples included).
Enhancements:
- Renamed --force-show-help to --force-configure to avoid confusion.
- Support for Imakefiles
- Fixed a doc-installing permissions bug with sautopkg.pl
- Support for creating packages from zip files (i.e. jasper)
- autogen.sh only run if configure and makefile not found
- Fixed possible bug with perl module installing
- Useful new shell script functionality for hint files (see README.HINTS file for details).
- Updated the README to take some of the crap out of autopkg.pls usage message and reflect the right version number.
- Renamed the sautopkg.pl wrapper to sautopkg as its not a perl script.

#can generate M3U and PLSv2 media playlists.
print STDERR $icy->m3u, "n";
print STDERR $icy->pls, "n";

$connection->close;
}

ABSTRACT

MP3::Icecast supports streaming Icecast protocol over socket or other filehandle (including STDIN). This is useful for writing a streaming media server.
MP3::Icecast also includes support for generating M3U and PLSv2 playlist files. These are common formats supported by most modern media players, including XMMS, Windows Media Player 9, and Winamp.

Fast Audio Playlist Generator 0.31

Fast Audio Playlist Generator 0.31

FAPG is a tool to generate list of audio files (WAV, MP3, Ogg, etc.) in various formats (M3U, PLS, HTML, etc). more>>
FAPG is a tool to generate list of audio files (WAV, MP3, Ogg, etc.) in various formats (M3U, PLS, HTML, etc). It is very useful for quickly creating a playlist of a large number of audio files.

It is coded in C to be as fast as possible, and does not use any specific audio library (like ID3Lib).
This allow you to deploy it faster and easier, and to have better performances since the less informations are loaded.
In the other hand, this tool is not (yet) compatible with all the known formats.

Here are some examples for usage :

Generate a PLS playlist for an album :
fapg --format=pls --output=~/path/to/album/list.pls ~/path/to/album

You have a file server using Samba which shares a large amount of audio files for Windows powered computers using Winamp.
The directory on the server containing the files is "/samba/mp3" and is visible on the Windows network as "serveurmp3" :
fapg --backslash --output=/samba/mp3/list.m3u --prefix=servermp3 --recursive --windows /samba/mp3

An HTML playlist for an album :
fapg --output=fapg.html ~/path/to/album
Here is the result : fapg.html

Armangils vodcatcher 1.3.3

Armangils vodcatcher 1.3.3

Armangils vodcatcher is a video podcast (or vodcast) client for the command line. more>>
Armangils vodcatcher is a video podcast (or vodcast) client for the command line. Armangils vodcatcher project provides several download strategies (new shows only, allowed, back-catalog, etc), supports BitTorrent, offers cache management, and generates playlists for video player applications. It is written in Ruby, and runs on Linux (tested), Windows, MacOS and many other operating systems.

To watch video podcasts, simply type something like vodcatcher subscriptions.opml > latest.m3u. This will download the subscribed shows into the current directory and generate an M3U playlist named latest.m3u.

This application accepts one or more feeds (RSS or Atom) or subscription lists (OPML or iTunes PCAST) as argument, in the form of URLs or filenames. Alternatively, it tries to read one such document from the standard input.

For help, use vodcatcher -h.

Options:

-F, --Function FUNCTION used function (download search );
when using the search function (which
generates an OPML document), the only
relevant options are -v, -r and -f
(default value: download)

-d, --dir DIR Query for caching files
and storing application state
(default value: current directory)

-s, --size SIZE Size of media file cache in MB;
0 means infinite; default value is 500

-m, --memsize N Remember last N downloaded media files,
and do not download them again;
0 means infinite; default value is 1000

-t, --type TYPE Playlist type (m3u smil pls asx tox xspf )
(default value: m3u)

-S, --strategy S Strategy to use for downloading vodcasts
(new one back_catalog all cache ):
* back_catalog: download any show that
has not been downloaded before; prefer
the most recent shows of top-most feeds
in the OPML/PCAST documents.
* new: ignore vodcast back-catalogs; this
is like back_catalog, except that only the
most recent show of each feed is
considered.
* one: download one unlistened show of
each feed, with a preference for recent
shows
* all: download all show; even already
downloaded shows are downloaded once
again.
* cache: play shows that are already in
cache (default value: new)

-f, --feeds N Do not download more than N feeds
(when using the download function);
or return the first N relevant feeds
(when using the search function);
0 means no limits (default value: 1000)

-r, --retries N Try downloading files (media, RSS/Atom or
or OPML/PCAST) at most N times before
giving up (default value: 1)

-T, --Torrentdir DIR Copy torrent files to directory DIR;
handling torrents through an external
BitTorrent client is left to the user;
if this option is not used, torrents are
handled internally (if RubyTorrent is
installed), or else ignored

-U, --Uploadrate N Maximum upload rate (kilobytes per second)
for the internal BitTorrent client
(default: no limit)

-i, --itemsize N If a downloaded show is less than N MB in
size (where N is an integer), fetch other
shows of that same feed until this size is
reached (default: 0)

-p, --[no-]perfeed Create one subfolder per feed in cache

-c, --[no-]cache Play already cached files,
DEPRECATED (use -S cache)

-e, --[no-]empty Delete all previously downloaded
files

-a, --[no-]asif Do not download media files
(useful for testing)

-v, --[no-]verbose Run verbosely

--version Display current version

-h, --help Show this message

Usage examples:

vodcatcher -d ~/vodcasts feeds.opml http://host/second.opml > latest.m3u

vodcatcher -d ~/vodcasts -S cache > cache.m3u

cat feeds.opml | vodcatcher -d ~/vodcasts > latest.m3u

vodcatcher -vd ~/vodcasts -s 500 -m 10_000 -t asx feeds.opml > latest.asx

vodcatcher -vF search -f 44 video vlog http://www.podfeed.net/opml/directory.opml > results.opml

Subsonic 3.1

Subsonic 3.1

Subsonic is a Web-based media streamer. more>>
Subsonic is a free, web-based media streamer. Although primarily designed for MP3, it works for any audio or video format that can stream over HTTP (for instance WMA and OGG).
With Subsonic you have access to your entire music collection wherever you are. Use Subsonic application to share your music with friends, or to listen to your own music while at work. You can stream to multiple players simultaneously, for instance to one player in your kitchen and another in your living room.
Subsonic is designed to handle very large music collections (many thousand albums). It uses a combination of directory structure and tag parsing to organize the music.
If you have constrained bandwidth, you may set an upper limit for the bitrate of the music streams. Subsonic will then automatically resample the music to a suitable bitrate. (Supported for MP3 only).
In addition to being a streaming media server, Subsonic works very well as a local jukebox. The intuitive web interface, as well as search and index facilities, are optimized for efficient browsing through large media libraries.
Subsonic is free software distributed under the LGPL open-source licence.
Main features:
- Supports MP3, OGG, AAC, WMA and any other music or video format that can be streamed over HTTP.
- Works with any network-enabled media player, such as Winamp, iTunes, XMMS, MusicMatch and Windows Media Player.
- Displays cover art, dynamically scaling it to fit nicely on the screen.
- Finds cover art and album info using Amazon Web Services.
- On-the-fly resampling to lower bitrates using the high-quality LAME encoder (MP3 only).
- Common playlist features (add, remove, rearrange, repeat, shuffle, undo).
- Playlists can be saved and restored. Both M3U and PLS formats are supported.
- Configurable index.
- Google-like search functionality.
- Automatic update of search index at specified intervals.
- Supports multiple simultaneous players. The playlist for any player can be managed from any location.
- Secure. Users must log in using a username and password.
- Lean web interface optimized for constrained bandwidth environments and efficient browsing through large music collections.
- WAP interface allows you to control Subsonic from any mobile phone or PDA.
- In addition to streaming, single files or entire directories may be downloaded from Subsonic.
- Files can be uploaded to Subsonic. Zip-files can be automatically unpacked.
- Implements the SHOUTcast protocol. Players which support this (including Winamp, iTunes and XMMS) will display the current artist and song name.
- Provides links to album reviews and more at allmusic.com.
- Supports internationalization. Currently, English and Norwegian translations are provided.
Enhancements:
- New: Optimized scanning of music folders. Dramatic improvement for network disks.
- Bugfix: Fixed minor concurrency bug in search index creation.
- Bugfix: Make cache work if clocks on remote disks are out of sync.
- Bugfix: Ensure that cover art images are ordered alphabetically.
- Bugfix: Remove nag message for licensed users.
