the poldek 0.20

the poldek 0.20

the poldek is a full-featured console frontend to RPM. more>>
The poldek project is the RPM packages management helper tool; its basic features are similar to every modern package updater like apt-get -- the program takes information about packages from package index file (packages.dir.gz by default) and allows packaging installation, upgrading and removal.
Package dependencies are automatically handled, so if you need to install a package which requires other packages to be installed, poldek downloads and installs all the required packages by itself.
Main poldeks advantages are:
- Relatively fast dependency processing
Package dependencies, conflicts and setting in order are handled by poldek itself without using rpmlib, so the program is significantly faster and uses less memory than rpmlib-based tools.
- "Smart" installation of a big package sets
Before their installation packages are divided into small groups, usually from 2 to 10 items (depending on their reciprocal dependencies). Each group is installed separately, which ensures that unsucessful installation of one of the groups doesnt influence other groups.
Another benefit of this separate installation is that it requires less memory and disk space than the usual one.
- Interactive mode
The poldek can work in two modes: a batch mode (in use similar to apt-get one) and interactive one. The interactive mode puts the user into a readline interface with command line auto-completion and history. In this mode the user is able to browse, search, download, install/upgrade and deinstall packages. In its concept it is similar to shell mode of Perls CPAN module (see sample interactive mode session).
- Installation system from scratch needs 8-12 MB memory only
During this type of install packages are downloaded and installed separately, so used memory size is independent of number of packages intended to install. Program is used by PLD Installer
- Quick package set verification for unresolved dependencies unneeded conflicts and dependency loops.
Feature is useful for distribution maintainers; see sample report.
- Division package set for the purpose of placing it on removable media (like CDROM or ZIP).
Program divide packages in the way that minimize needs of disk changes; for example if distribution fits on 3 CDs, then only 2 changes of CD disk are necessary during installation system from scratch. This feature is used for making PLD CD ISO images, see geniso-poldek script for details.
- Support for "patches" of package index
To save users time and bandwidth program supports "incremental indexes" which is very useful with repositories which frequently change. This feature consist in creation "patches" of index which gives the users possibility to update local index by download "patch" with information of changes only.
- Program is prepared to be run by ordinary user, installation of packages in that case can be done with sudo.
Enhancements:
- This is the first release after the poldek redesign.
- New features and significant changes include a new native package repository index format, support for Yum and XML Metadata repositories, improved support for APT-RPM indexes, a more user friendly interactive mode, proper packages ordering before their uninstallation, a clearer configuration syntax, a better dependency resolver, and many more.

PPCRCD 20050505

PPCRCD 20050505

PPCRCD is PLD Linux Distribution based RescueCD for PowerMac computers. more>>
PPCRCD is PLD Linux Distribution based RescueCD for PowerMac computers.

Many things wait to be added and some others to be thrown. Version 1.0 of PPCRCD should fit on 50Mb business card CD and should contain all necessary things useful in installing or repairing Linux. But this in quite distant future.

As for now PPCRCD is in beta and test stage, most things seems to work. Its able to run from memory which requires about 128 of ram, or directly from CD what should require 32Mb at most. But Im working to make it require less memory.

Aptsh 0.0.7

Aptsh 0.0.7

Aptsh is a pseudo-shell for systems with the APT package managing tool. more>>
Aptsh is a pseudo-shell for systems with Apt package managing tool. Aptsh is similar to AptShell from AptRpm, but it works not only with AptRpm (actually, its being developed with Debians Apt).
Also, its inspired by The Poldek from PLD. But, what does it exactly do? Well, if you use Apt, you should know the situation - search for a package with apt-cache and copy its name to apt-get, repeat. And, you probably do not enjoy the situation before last execution of apt-get.
If so, consider using aptsh - it offers that cute TAB completion which you always use while unix-shelling. Its smart enough to decide whether youre trying to remove or install/upgrade a package, and doesnt suggests you to remove your Gnome since you are a KDE maniac who has never seen (and never installed) that ugly Gnome.
In short: a tool which makes life easier, although its not necessary.
You may find few similarities between Aptsh and things like Wajig or Feta. Yes, its the same sort of applications.
Enhancements:
- A bug which may have caused strange behavior of the orphans-* commands on some architectures (i.e. ppc) was fixed.
- A bug in the rls and ls commands was fixed: if a given argument matched files in the current directory (wildcard), then the names of these files were used instead of typed text in some shells.
- Aptsh can be run with commands as program arguments.
- Many minor bugs were fixed, and many minor features were added.
- Many internal improvements were done, and the code seems cleaner now.

Electronic Design Automation - Index 1.0

Electronic Design Automation - Index 1.0

Electronic Design Automation - Index is a web-based index system that can keep track of your sch/pcb/fp/pl numbers. more>>
The system can be used in the electronic world to keep track of your: Schematic, Printed Circuit Board, Front Plate, Programmable Logic Device numbers.
EDA index is programmed in PHP (and XHTML 1.0), using a MySQL database to store data, so its more or less OS independent, but a Linux server is recommended, since it already got most software installed as default, this configuration is also called LAMP (Linux Apache MySQL PHP)
Its also recommended that a local intranet server is used, since the system dont got a user login, so all data can be viewed without a password, but when you need to add or edit data a password is required. At first this approach might seem wierd, but its designed to allow quick lookups. Example:
You are sitting with a broken pcb with a number on it, and need to find the schematic (so you can repair it) on the computer or in the printed project (schematic) archive. EDA Index allow an quick lookup in the database, without you needing to login, so you get the job done faster.
As far as I know, there are no commercial (or free) program available that can do what EDA Index can, some companies may have created their own software, but how do that help you.
I have worked in an electronic department that had a self made application, but it lagged features like search.
This program is very usefull, if you are using numbers when:
Drawing electronic Schematics and PCBs using a CAD program like: Eagle, gEDA, Protel, Orcad, etc.
Creating Front Plate layouts in: GIMP, Coral Draw, Photoshop, AutoCAD, etc.
Programming Programmable Logic Devices like: PLD, EPLD, CPLD, PIC, APIC, PEEL, PAL, GAL, FPGA, Intel 80XX, Motorola 68XX, etc. Writing the code in: VHDL, Assambler, JEDEC, etc.
Enhancements:
- Included the bugfix to RC2.
- Updated online documentation.
- Updated INSTALL file.

GnomeKiSS 2.0

GnomeKiSS 2.0

GnomeKiSS project is a KiSS paper doll viewer for GNOME. more>>
GnomeKiSS project is a KiSS paper doll viewer for GNOME.
GnomeKiSS is an implementation of French-KiSS for the GNOME desktop environment, using GNOME, GTK+ and the X Window System. French KiSS is an enhanced KiSS/GS for scriptable dolls, where KiSS is an abbreviation for Kisekae Set System (or something).
GnomeKiSS apparently works on plenty of Linux systems (including Debian GNU/Linux and PLD Linux) and is available as a FreeBSD port. If you dont have one of these Free operating systems I have been told that GnomeKiSS compiles and runs on Mac OS X and Sun Solaris too. It should work on any modern Unix-like system with GNOME installed but obviously I cant test them all.
Enhancements:
- GNOME 2.x conversion aiming at GNOME 2.6 and later
- Many new compiler warnings fixed, e.g. sign and const fixes
- Further changes to event handling to ensure interactivity when stressed
- Fixed snprintf() call to stay strictly within the buffer
- Still warn, but dont ignore objects declared after @EventHandler

KBoot 11

KBoot 11

KBoot project is a proof-of-concept implementation of a Linux boot loader based on kexec. more>>
KBoot project is a proof-of-concept implementation of a Linux boot loader based on kexec. KBoot uses a boot loader like LILO or GRUB to load a regular Linux kernel as its first stage. Then, the full capabilities of the kernel can be used to locate and to access the kernel to be booted.
KBoot integrates the various components needed for a fully featured boot loader, and demonstrates their use. While the main focus is on basic technical functionality, KBoot can serve as a starting point for customized boot environments offering additional features.
Main features:
- supports most file systems and device drivers the Linux kernel supports
- transparent navigation in the file system of the booted system, including auto-mounting guided by /etc/fstab
- network configuration is either manual or with DHCP, including name resolution via /etc/hosts and DNS
- access to file systems via NFS
- access to files via HTTP, FTP, and TFTP
- inbound and outbound SSH (to and from the boot loader)
Enhancements:
New features:
- pressing Ctrl-C before the KBoot prompt is shown now starts an emergency shell (based on suggestions by Brent Baude)
- README: added a troubleshooting section explaining how to get a shell if things turn sour
Changes:
- upgraded to the 2.6.19.2 kernel
- upgraded to Busybox 1.3.1
- patches/busybox-noshadow.patch: fix Busybox build without shadow passwords (from PLD Linux)
- scripts/KBoot: start udhcpc with -n instead of --now, since the latter is no longer recognized
- upgraded to udev 104
- Makefile: recent versions of udev arent stripped, so we do this

snescom 1.7.0

snescom 1.7.0

snescom is a 65c816 (SNES, etc.) assembler. more>>
This program reads symbolic 65816 or 65c816 machine code and compiles (assembles) it into a relocatable object file.
The produced object file is binary-compatible with those made with XA65.
This program was born when Bisqwit needed a relocatable object -producing snes assembler and XA65 had too many bugs in it.
He was unable to fix the XA65 source so he started his own project, aiming for enough compatibility to be able to use the assembly files already written in the XAxa65 syntax.
Since that, this program has been growing to meet the needs in SNES game and patch development.
The following mnemonics are supported:
adc, and, asl, bcc, bcs, beq, bit, bmi, bne, bpl, bra, brk, brl, bvc, bvs, clc, cld, cli, clv, cmp, cop, cpx, cpy, db , dec, dex, dey, eor, inc, inx, iny, jml, jmp, jsl, jsr, lda, ldx, ldy, lsr, mvn, mvp, nop, ora, pea, pei, per, pha, phb, phd, phk, php, phx, phy, pla, plb, pld, plp, plx, ply, rep, rol, ror, rti, rtl, rts, sbc, sec, sed, sei, sep, sta, stp, stx, sty, stz, tax, tay, tcd, tcs, tdc, trb, tsb, tsc, tsx, txa, txs, txy, tya, tyx, wai, xba, xce
All the standard addressing modes of the 65816 cpu are supported.
Syntax:
- Implied: nop; clc
- Immediate: lda #value; rep #value etc (size may depend on an operand size setting)
- Short relative: bra end
- Long relative: brl end; per end+2
- Direct: lda $12
- Direct indexed: lda $12,x; lda $12,y
- Direct indirect: lda ($12); pei ($12)
- Direct indexed indirect: lda ($12,x)
- Direct indirect indexed: lda ($12),y
