Python library for PS3 0.1.2

Python library for PS3 0.1.2

Python library for PS3 (Sony Playstation 3) game development under Linux. more>>
Python library for PS3 (Sony Playstation 3) game development under Linux. Includes: rendering to the PS3 frame buffer on a per pixel basis or with blittable objects (solid, masked or alpha blended), support for PS3 controllers and integration with PIL.
As you may know, Ive been writing my PS3 stuff with a view to building up a library suitable for writing games and as I thought about it more the idea of using a scripting language for the game seemed the most logical way forward. I plumped on python as Id used it before for a couple of small jobs and it seemed like a nice language with a lot of support. Plus, it has the advantage of being pre-installed on most Linux distributions and very easy to extend, and so the PS3 library for python was born...
Brief bullet points of the current build:
Support for the PS3 frame buffer on a per pixel basis
Support for blittable objects (solid, masked or alpha blended)
Support for the PS3 controllers
Easy integration with PIL for image manipulation and text rendering
A proof-of-concept breakout game
After about a day and a half development, the core of the library was in place but in a not very visible way. It seemed that the only way I could actually demonstrate this to all be good stuff is by writing a quick game. And breakout is one of the simplest, so I spent another day writing that. Its important to have a good demo on release... So, Ill settle for this half-hearted attempt at a breakout game whose main redeeming feature is that it has alpha transparency on all the blocks!
Just to whet your interest, heres an example of how easy the code can be (taken directly from the test.py file):
image = Blittable(Image.open("miglu.jpg"))
for count in xrange(screen.height-image.height):
screen.clear()
screen.blit(image, (count,count) )
screen.flip()
screen.wait()
Enhancements:
- Adds support for image blitting with the SPUs.
- Currently, using 4 SPUs the alpha blended breakout demo runs at 30fps at 720p.

KDirStat 2.5.2

KDirStat 2.5.2

KDirStat is a graphical disk usage utility, very much like the Unix more>>
KDirStat is a graphical disk usage utility, very much like the Unix "du" command.
KDirStat project displays a directory tree both in classical tree format (like Konqueror, but with accumulated tree sizes, shown as MB / GB and as percentage bars) and in "treemap" format like SequoiaView.
In addition to that, KDirStat provides cleanup facilities to reclaim disk space - both predefined and customizable.
Main features:
Display Features
- Graphical and numeric display of used disk space
- Files kept apart from directories in separate items to prevent cluttering the display
- All numbers displayed human readable - e.g., 34.4 MB instead of 36116381 Bytes
- Different colors in the directory tree display to keep the different tree levels visually apart
- Display of latest change time within an entire directory tree - you can easily see what object was changed last and when.
Treemap Display
- Treemap as alternate (auxiliary) view of a directory tree
- Easily find large in a directory tree: You see the entire tree at once. Large rectangles are large files - you can see them even if they are hidden somewhere deep within the tree.
- Treemap view slaved to the tree (list) view: Click on a file in the treemap, and it is selected in the tree view - and vice versa.
- Treemap tiles are colored by file type - all images in cyan, all audio tracks (MP3 etc.) in yellow, executables in magenta etc.; you can see from the color what a treemap rectangle is.
- Many treemap variants available:
- Plain treemap
- Squarified treemap (no thin elongated rectangles)
- Cushion treemap
- Colored treemap
- All combinations of the above
- Fast implementation: Treemap built in fractions of a second (on quite ordinary machines: Athlon-550 class)
- Treemap subwindow can be resized as the user prefers
- Treemap can be switched off with a single keypress (F9)
- Context menu with cleanup actions etc.
- Zoom the treemap in/out treemap with double click (left/right)
- Many treemap configuration options
Directory Reading
- Stays on one file system by default - reads mounted file systems only on request.
- You dont care about a mounted /usr file system if the root file system is full and you need to find out why in a hurry, nor do you want to scan everybodys home directory on the NFS server when your local disk is full.
- Network transparency: Scan FTP or Samba directories - or whatever else protocols KDE support.
- PacMan animation while directories are being read. OK, this is not exactly essential, but its fun.
Cleaning up
- Predefined cleanup actions: Easily delete a file or a directory tree, move it to the KDE trash bin, compress it to a .tar.bz2 archive or simply open a shell or a Konqueror window there.
- User-defined cleanup actions: Add your own cleanup commands or edit the existing ones.
- "Send mail to owner" report facility: Send a mail requesting the owner of a large directory tree to please clean up unused files.
Misc
- Feedback mail facility: Rate the program and tell the authors your opinion about it.
Whats New in 2.4.4 Release:
- Sparse files and hard links are now properly supported.
Whats New in 2.5.2 Release:
- Can now read and write directory contents from cache files generated by (supplied) Perl script, e.g. in cron job over night

Stella 2.4

Stella 2.4

Stella is a multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS emulator released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). more>>
Stella is a multi-platform Atari 2600 VCS emulator.
Stella was originally developed for Linux by Bradford W. Mott, however, since its original release several people have joined the development team to port Stella to other operating systems such as AcornOS, AmigaOS, DOS, FreeBSD, IRIX, Linux, OS/2, MacOS, Unix, and Windows. The development team is working hard to perfect the emulator and we hope you enjoy our effort.
On this site youll find information about downloading, installing, using, and enhancing Stella. Youll also find useful information about the Atari 2600 and emulation.
Enhancements:
Added new video sub-system where fullscreen and windowed modes are treated
differently. Windowed modes now use -zoom_tia and -zoom_ui arguments,
while fullscreen modes can be specified by resolution using the new
-fullres argument.
- Widescreen video modes are now supported; Stella will simply center the
image with surrounding black borders.
- Many UI-related changes, including resizable ROM launcher and debugger
windows, and a new UI palette (the previous classic palette is still
available). This is still a work in progress.
- The locations of all major config files (statedir, palette file,
cheat file, properties file, etc) are now configurable from the
commandline and within the UI.
- Updates to TIA palette support. Added SECAM support, and removed the
built-in original palette. Standard, z26, and user are still
available.
- Various bugfixes to some debugger commands. The run command no
longer causes a crash, and several others have better error-checking.
- Added more complete cartridge auto-detection for Commavid (CV), 3E,
3F and Activision (FE) formats.
- Removed XStart and Width ROM properties, since the forthcoming TIA
rework wont be using them.
- Reworked internal storage of ROM properties to be faster and take up
less space.
- Added several different ways of stretching the OpenGL image to the
-gl_fsmax argument, for more flexibility.
- Removed OpenGL aspect ratio setting favour of the previously mentioned
video changes. Well see how this goes.
- Removed dirty-rect support from software rendering, since it was actually
sub-optimal in Windows and OSX and defaulted to off in previous versions.
- Added support for gzipped ROMs.
- Re-added pause support.
- Re-added support for Windows 98.
- Removed support for STELLA_BASEDIR environment variable, since each
config file can be now configured separately.
- Removed -fastscbios argument, since it must always be turned on.
- Removed PSP support, since it hasnt been updated in over a year, and
someone else is maintaining another port elsewhere.
- For the Unix/Linux port; fixed make install issues, and changed icon to
PNG format.

pBeans 2.0.2

pBeans 2.0.2

pBeans project is a Object/Relational (O/R) database mapping layer. more>>
pBeans project is a Object/Relational (O/R) database mapping layer. It is designed to be simple to use and automated.
The idea is that you save time and effort by simply focusing on writing Java classes, and not worrying about maintenance of matching SQL scripts, schema evolution, XML based schemas, or generating code. The pBeans framework takes care of persisting JavaBeans with little assistance from the developer.
Main features:
- Automatic Table Creation and Schema Evolution- Tables corresponding to JavaBean classes are created on demand. Field types are based, by default, on JavaBean compile-time types. Field type changes and new fields are detected. Manually changing tables (user-managed mode) is also supported.
- Based on Annotated JavaBeans- You define a getter and setter for each bean property. Persisent bean classes only need to be tagged with a @PersistentClass annotation.
- Transitive Persistence- If object A is persisted and it refers to Persistent object B, then object B is automatically persisted. If Persistent object C also refers to B, and C is also persisted, the record for object B in the database is not duplicated.
- Instance Consistency- If you retrieve an object from persistent storage that is already known to exist in main memory, you get a reference to the object in main memory. (Garbage collection is allowed to happen via weak references.)
- Near-Zero Configuration- There is no need to define schemas or anything of the sort in a language other than Java, and there are no code generation steps of any kind. No XML or SQL need to be written, except the necessary to create a database and grant user permissions. However, you can instruct pBeans to let you manage database modifications manually.
- Database features- Transactions and auto-increment IDs (MySQL only) are now supported.
- Flexibility- Via annotations users are allowed to define their own table and field names, the name of the primary key, whether fields are nullable, whether tables are user-managed (not automatically modified), table indexes, unique or otherwise, whether unused fields should be deleted, whether a field is nullable, whether it is renamed from another field (to prevent loss of data when a property is renamed), etc.
- Servlet support- A pBeans store may be easily configured using servlet context parameters (see ServletAccess.)
