Pine is a tool for reading, sending, and managing electronic messages. Pine was designed by the Office of Computing & Communications at the University of Washington specifically with novice computer users in mind, but it can be tailored to accommodate the needs of "power users" as well.
Pine project uses Internet message protocols (e.g. RFC-822, MIME, SMTP, IMAP, NNTP) and runs on Unix and PCs.
Pines message composition editor, Pico, is also available as a separate stand-alone program. Pico is a very simple and easy-to-use text editor offering paragraph justification, cut/paste, and a spelling checker.

It can convert a Pine addressbook to a Standard Intermediate format(STF) and a STF to Pine As part of the larger distribution, it will allow conversion between Pine and many other formats.
To use to convert between Pine and Eudora as an example, you would do the following

Spruce is an X11 mail user agent (commonly known as an email client) written with the Gtk+ widget set. It is extremely small and fast and has all the common features of an usual user.
Spruce supports MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions), an Internet Standard for representing multipart and multimedia data in email. Spruce allows you to save MIME objects to files. Spruces message composer does not currently have integral multimedia capability, but any type of data file (including multimedia) can be attached to a text message and sent using MIMEs encoding rules. This allows any group of individuals with MIME-capable mail software (e.g. Spruce, Kmail, Pine, or many other programs) to exchange formatted documents, spreadsheets, image files, etc, via Internet email.
At the present time, spruce uses its own SMTP interface to send mail. Future versions may support the ability to have an external program like Sendmail send messages as an alternative.
Spruce currently supports several different methods of mail retrieval. Currently supported are: POP (POP3, APOP, and POP with CRAM-MD5 Authentication), IMAP (also supports CRAM-MD5 Authentication) and mbox (mbox is the standard UNIX mail format. SiMP (Simple Mail Parser) is a procmail-like mailparser, except that its much more easier to configure. With SiMP you can automatically store incoming mail in seperate folders, remove junkmail, send a reply, forward the mail, etc.
It has been tested with Sendmail and Postfix as a mailserver and Pine as the mailreader, but it is likely that SiMP will work with other mailservers and -clients.

By the magic of scripts, and the anaconda installer, each site is to be able to create their own distributions with minimal effort. Or, if a users wishes, they can simply install the base SL release.
The Scientific Linux project, which rebuilds source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) into a complete RHEL clone, has released a live CD/DVD edition of their latest version for the i386 and x86_64 architectures:
"The Scientific Linux Live CD/DVD is a bootable CD/DVD that runs Linux directly from CD/DVD without installing. It is based on Scientific Linux 4 It uses Unification File System (Unionfs), allowing read-only file system to behave as a writable one and SquashFS providing on-the-fly decompression that allows to store 2GB of software on a normal CD-ROM. The Live CD/DVD was built using modified scripts from Linux-Live."
