cnet 2.0.10

cnet 2.0.10

The cnet network simulator (v2.0.9) enables experimentation with various network protocols. more>>
The cnet network simulator (v2.0.10) enables experimentation with various data-link layer, network layer, routing and transport layer networking protocols in networks consisting of any combination of point-to-point links and IEEE 802.3 Ethernet segments. cnet has been specifically developed for, and is used in, undergraduate computer networking courses taken by thousands of students worldwide since 1991. At The University of Western Australia, cnet is used primarily in Chris McDonalds undergraduate unit Computer Networks (IT312).

cnet either displays the entire network under Tcl/Tk or runs rather less visually on an ASCII terminal. Under Tcl/Tk, cnet provides a graphical representation of the network under execution and permits a number of attributes of the network to be modified while the simulation is running. Nodes may be selected with the mouse to reveal a sub-window displaying the output and protocol statistics of that node. Some of the nodes attributes, such as message generation rates and sizes, may be modified while the network is running by selecting choice buttons. Similarly, the default attributes of all nodes in the network may be simultaneously modified by selecting and changing global attributes. From another menu, each node may be forced to reboot, (impolitely) crash, (politely) shutdown and reboot, pause and (hardware) fail, you can do many things.

You should note the following requirements and restrictions for various systems:

If using a Linux(ELF) system, the freely-available libelf package is required. Most Linux(ELF) systems (with at least version 2.0 kernels) now provide a copy of libelf, but if yours doesnt it greatly simplifies things if you can install libelf globally on your system. A full copy of libelf is included in the cnet distribution.
If using SunOS you should be using Release 4.1.2 or beyond. If still using Release 4.1.1 you must obtain and install Sun-Patch-ID#100257-03 (4-Oct-91) - whoa! welcome to the 21st century.
If using an SGI-IRIX machine, you must be using Release 5 or 6 (Release 4 is not supported).
Older Linux systems with a.out formats are no longer supported.
cnet has been tested with most Tcl/Tk versions, (Tcl7.X+Tk3.X), (Tcl7.X+Tk4.X), (Tcl8.0+Tk8.0), and. (Tcl8.3+Tk8.3).

Package DataBase View 2.0.10

Package DataBase View 2.0.10

Package DataBase View is a report tool for package systems like RPM and dpkg. more>>
Pdbv output a HTML view of a RPM or dpkg database. Its modular design allows easy addition of others package management database and export format (as xml).
The 1.x.x series are in Bash, the 2.x.x series are in Perl. Obviously, the output generation with 1.x.x is a lot slower than with the 2.x.x. While with the 1.x.x it should run on a daily basis, with the 2.x.x it should run on a hourly basis.
Main features:
- it does not require lucid/gtk+/qt or other big libs.
- it does not require a web server - but it can be used with a web server, as any
- other html files.
- it does not require a X server running, you can use a text mode browser that support
- frames as links.
- it does not require special privileges to access to the output. But access can
- be restricted by using chmod/chown (filesystem) or .htaccess (apache).
- since output is generated by a cronjob, access to the output is as fast as your
- computer is able to read/serve text files.

srcpd 2.0.10

srcpd 2.0.10

SRCP is a TCP/IP Protocol to cover all aspects of model railroading. more>>
SRCP is a TCP/IP Protocol to cover all aspects of model railroading. It is ascii text based and follows a strict command-response schema. In the world of SRCP the server is the interface to the model railway system.
Any client connects to the server and recieves information about the state of any component (including the server) and sends commands to change the state of any component. Thus SRCP is fully multiuser. To prevent conflicts, a component can be locked by one client session.
SRCP means Simple Railroad Command Protocol. It is an IP based protocol. It covers all aspects of model railroading. srcpd project implements a client-server architecture.
SRCP defines an abstract layer above the model railroad system. If covers the differences between DCC or MarklinMotorola or any other system. A client developer does not need to know, which type of signalling is used. Even if a complete new system comes up: once a SRCP server implements it, any SRCP client can be used without any change.
SRCP consists of command words and devices, on which the commands operate. Command words are SET, GET, WAIT, VERIFY, RESET, INIT and TERM. The most important devices are locomotive decoders (GL== generic loco), impulse decoders (GA == generic accessoire) and feed back sensors. To address decoder programming so called Service mode devices are defined.
All components are structured in busses, which basically bundle components which are accessible through a shared device (e.g. a central unit). These busses will also be used to segment the adress space. One basic feature of SRCP is that it never changes the hardware adress. E.g. can the NMRA "short" addresses and the "long" addresses be structured into two independent busses. It is the responsibility of the server developer, to define the the bus structure well. A client developer has to take care, that the address of any component contains two elements.
Not all components does exists on all systems. To get initial information, the server can inform the client about all devices it knows about. Some functionality can even be emulated by the server, if the target does not support the requested feature (e.g. get current speed: many railroad systems do not support this operation).
Another nice feature, which is can be used is a central time source. SRCP contains a time "device", which keeps all clients with a current model time. This time can run at any ratio to the real time: 6 real time minutes can be 1 model hour.
SRCP has evolved over time. The first usable revision, which is outdated by now is called 0.7.3. It works well and a lot of program still use it. For all software we encourage to use the current version 0.8.2, which is stable for more than a year. The most recent version is called 0.8.3-wip, which contains a few enhancements. They are not yet formally correct and may contain errors or can be changed in the future.
Future Versions of SRCP will keep compatability with the current 0.8 specification. A client can request a special SRCP version during the initial handshake.
The discussion around SRCP runs in the German newsgroup de.rec.modelle.bahn.
Enhancements:
- This release adds basic loconet support, provides enhancements for Selectrix and LI100, and includes internal changes for better support of Linux 2.6 and 64-bit architectures.
- From the SRCP 0.8.3 the SET FB feature was implemented.
- This is most useful for the loopback bus, as others may suffer from hardware support.

GNUstep Database Library 2 0.10.1

GNUstep Database Library 2 is a set of libraries to map Objective-C objects to rows of relational database management systems. more>>
GNUstep Database Library 2 (GDL2) is a set of libraries to map Objective-C objects to rows of relational database management systems (RDBMS).
GNUstep Database Library 2 aims to be compatible with Enterprise Objects Framework (EOF) as released with WebObjects 4.5 from Apple Inc.
Main features:
- EOControl (gnustep-db2control)
- The fundamental abstraction library which includes many non RDBMS related extensions such as KeyValueCoding extensions and other categories. Most importantly it contains the classes which handle the coordination of object graphs namely EOEditingContext.
- EOAccess (gnustep-db2)
- This library implements the underlying mechanism to retrieve and store data in RDBMS. It defines the abstract classes like EOAdaptor which are subclassed to interface with concrete RDBMS implementations.
- EOInterface
- This library implements classes used to synchronize UI components such as NSTextFields, NSButtons and NSTableViews with the state of objects which an EOEditingContext contains.
- EOAdaptors
- This is a collection of concrete EOAdaptor projects needed to connect to specific databases. GDL2 currently only supplies an Adaptor for the PostgreSQL database. Even though the Adaptor is still called Postgres95 we aim to support PostgreSQL 7.2 and higher API. In fact the Adaptor may very soon be renamed to PostgreSQL.
- DBModeler

GenIP 1.0

GenIP 1.0

GenIP is a small utility, based on the NMap target specification code, for quickly and easily generating lists of IP addresses. more>>
GenIP is a small utility, based on the NMap target specification code, for quickly and easily generating lists of IP addresses.

Usage:

genip [ -h ] [ -i filename ] [ < target-spec > ... ]
genip -r < ipaddress > < ipaddress >

Options:

-h
Display uage information.
-i
Read target specifications from the give filename. If a filename of "-" used, target specifications are read from standard in. Target specifications read from input files are processed in NMap mode regardless of the presence of the -r option.
-r
Specify range mode (see below).

Modes:

GenIP has two modes of operation that are detailed below:

NMap Mode (Default)

In this mode genip will expand all target specifications listed on the command line. Since genip is essentially just the NMap target parsing code it functions in exactly the same way. Here is what the NMap documentation has to say about target specification:

Everything that isnt an option (or option argument) is treated as a target host specification. The simplest case is listing single hostnames or IP addresses on the command line. If you want to scan a subnet of IP addresses, you can append /mask to the hostname or IP address. mask must be between 0 (scan the whole Internet) and 32 (scan the single host specified). Use /24 to scan a class "C" address and /16 for a class "B". There is also a more powerful notation which lets you specify an IP address using lists/ranges for each element. Thus you can scan the whole class "B" network 192.168.*.* by specifying "192.168.*.*" or "192.168.0-255.0-255" or even "192.168.1-50,51-255.1,2,3,4,5-255". And of course you can use the mask notation: "192.168.0.0/16". These are all equivalent. If you use asterisks ("*"), remember that most shells require you to escape them with back slashes or protect them with quotes.

Range Mode

In this mode two (and only two!) IP addresses must be specified, in dotted quad notation, and the output is all the addresses between the two (inclusive). This mode can be used to cross class boundaries.

Example:

In its most basic form genip simply echos the IP addresses listed on the command line:

> genip 10.1.1.1 10.3.4.5
10.1.1.1
10.3.4.5

By use one of the many expansion methods detailed above a large number of IP addresses can be generated from simple command line specifications:

> genip 10.1.1.1-3
10.1.2.0
10.1.2.1
10.1.2.2

By selecting range mode (with the use of the -r flag) it is a simple matter to generate address lists that cross class boundaries:

> genip -r 10.1.1.254 10.1.2.2
10.1.1.254
10.1.1.255
10.1.2.0
10.1.2.1
10.1.2.2

Image::ExifTool::MIE is a Perl module to read/write MIE meta information. more>>
Image::ExifTool::MIE is a Perl module to read/write MIE meta information.

Features

Below is very subjective score card comparing the features of a number of common file and meta information formats, and comparing them to MIE. The following features are rated for each format with a score of 0 to 10:

1) Extensible (can incorporate user-defined information).
2) Meaningful tag IDs (hint to meaning of unknown information).
3) Sequential read/write ability (streamable).
4) Hierarchical information structure.
5) Easy to implement reader/writer/editor.
6) Order of information well defined.
7) Large data lengths supported: >64kB (+5) and >4GB (+5).
8) Localized text strings.
9) Multiple documents in a single file.
10) Compact format doesnt squander disk space or bandwidth.
11) Compressed meta information supported.
12) Relocatable data elements (ie. no fixed offsets).
13) Binary meta information (+7) with variable byte order (+3).
14) Mandatory tags not required (an unecessary complication).
15) Append information to end of file without editing.

By design, MIE ranks highest by a significant margin. Other formats with reasonable scores are PDF, PNG and XMP, but each has significant weak points. What may be surprising is that TIFF, EXIF and IPTC rank so low.

As well as scoring high in all these features, the MIE format has the unique ability to encapsulate any other type of file, and provides a non-invasive method of adding meta information to a file. The meta information is logically separated from the original file data, which is extremely important because meta information is routinely lost when files are edited.

Also, the MIE format supports multiple files by simple concatenation, enabling all kinds of wonderful features such as linear databas
