Free photo software for linux

This is a Photo Library program from Linspire. They developed it for their Linspire Linux Desktop, and then released it under the GNU/GPL.

This is a pretty neat program, the only drawback is that the path where it saves your photos is hardcoded into the program. The best part is that it has an option to turn your photo libraries into (S)VCD and sets them to your favorite music. Very cool!

Was tested on SuSE - 9.2 with no problems.

Installation:

To install just type "python install.py" as root. It is that easy!

Photo resize is a service menu for KDE that changes the selected pictures to the chosen size (550x550px, 500x500px, 450x450px,200x200px,150x150px).

The geometry will be hold. The script will size the pictures to their longer side.

Attention: The pictures will be overwritten!!

KPhotoBook is a powerful, easy to use, intuitive and fast application to manage and organize your photos. The main idea is to be able to annotate your photos with tags and to refind the photos using the given tags. The tags which can be created by yourself are arranged in a tree.
The KPhotoBook GUI comes up with several points which makes the handling with many photos very easy. This is just a short excerpt of its goodies:
- It is very easy to annotate tags to one or more images at a time
- It is very easy to find images by the given tags (actually one mouse click only is needed)
- It is very easy to edit the image database with an external program ? its saved as XML file
Main features:
- creating a photo database with photos from several folders which can be added single or recursively
- annotate tags to the photos - this can be done for one photo only or for several photos at once
- the tags are arranged in a tree
- there will be different kind of tags: boolean, string, number
- there can be written a description for each file
- searching and filtering the photos using the given tags and description
- all pictures matching the chosen filter are displayed as thumbnails
- the pictures can be rotated (real, exif or database only)
- showing the exif informations of a selected file
- showing the pictures matching the filter in a slide show
- opening the files with a any desired program

Photo Novilab provides a Web image gallery generation program.

Photo Novilab is an highly customizable program written in PHP that lets you create photo galleries on your Web site simply by uploading the images.

It creates a thumbnail gallery and has the capability to insert a button to send the photo link by email.

It also features the ability to view how many times a picture has been viewed.

Photo Grid Print is a software which can print photos in a grid on a single page.

Photo Grid Print is a dialog window that lets you print a set of photos in a grid on a single page. You set the number of rows and columns in the grid. It figures out an efficient layout to maximize the photo size and minimize the paper used, rotating photos as needed. You can tell it to fill the page with your photo(s), repeating them as needed.

Once installed, the dialog is started by selecting some photos in the Gnome file manager (nautilus) or in the F-Spot application: right-click > Open With... > Open with Photo Grid Print.

Photo Grid Print was eritten using Python, GTK+ and Glade.

GTK Photo Gallery is an album to manage small and medium-sized photograph collections. It is possible to upload images to an online laboratory.
It allows quick management by processing multiple files together. Rotate, delete, move, and manage descriptions can be done for all files in one directory at once.
GTK Photo Gallery is implemented with GTK2-Perl, and due to the lack of a Web server in between, it is much faster than CGI-based scripts. It uses the same directory structure as (and can be used together with) My Photo Gallery (a set of CGI scripts).
It is possible to export (and import) an album in 0.7, 4.7 or 8.5 GB parts for easy CD/DVD backup.
Each part contains a html index as overview and for navigation. User can choose the thumnail sizes to export.
This can be used to create a simple static web album.
Enhancements:
- Automatic configuration is done on startup if theres no configuration file.
- Speed enhancements on applying changes to albums and bugfixes were done.

KoffeePhoto is a free software that allows you to manage your personal photo library. You can manage your photo albums with KoffeePhoto, and share them with your friends or family very easily. Your albums will be saved on the KoffeePhoto network, which will let you access them anytime and anywhere.

KoffeePhoto allows you to pick your photos on your hard disk or on your camera, and to organize them in albums. Thanks to several ways of sorting your photos, by date, topic, place, person, or any combination of these categories, you will always have an easy way to find all your photos again.

KoffeePhoto saves your whole photo library on its peer-to-peer KoffeePhoto network. This is carried out in a completely seamless way. Your photos are encrypted to ensure confidentiality, and are saved without any loss in quality (no format reduction, no data compression), and no storage expiration date. You can access your photo library from several computers if you wish. In case of any data loss, you can recover your whole photo library very easily!

Auto Adjust Photos main goal is to set and correct a photo image automatically with only one click. With other words, to make it seen better. This means setting the contrast, color balance and gamma levels of the image by analization.

Not all images are adjusted originally in the proper way. Some of them can be too dark, too bright, or the colors are just too yellowish. The middle tone can be too dark - at this we see the pictures too dark, no matter how many light colors they have. The program tries to set these parameters by analization to the best values.

This can be a solution for those kind of users who are not able to set up and correct images with complicated huge graphical softwares, or just simply dont intend to spend a lot of time with setting the images one-by-one manually. Only selecting the image files are enough, then right-clicking with the mouse you can just start the automatic color correction command from the local menu (one-step operation from a console command too).

The program handles the following image formats: mif, pnm / pgm / ppm, bmp, ras, jp2, jpc, jpg, pgx

REMARKS:

- auto adjust parameter is set by default if no other parameters are given
- a _new filename will be generated without --overwrite parameter
- on directory input every file will be processed in it but not recursively
- order of parameters does not matter
- resizing can be set in percentage too
- resize parameter should be less or equal than original
- resize uses the best (and slowest) resampling method
- default jpeg compression quality is 95%
