Convert::BinHex 1.119

Convert::BinHex 1.119

Convert::BinHex can extract data from Macintosh BinHex files. more>>
Convert::BinHex can extract data from Macintosh BinHex files.

ALPHA WARNING: this code is currently in its Alpha release. Things may change drastically until the interface is hammered out: if you have suggestions or objections, please speak up now!

SYNOPSIS

Simple functions:

use Convert::BinHex qw(binhex_crc macbinary_crc);

# Compute HQX7-style CRC for data, pumping in old CRC if desired:
$crc = binhex_crc($data, $crc);

# Compute the MacBinary-II-style CRC for the data:
$crc = macbinary_crc($data, $crc);

Hex to bin, low-level interface. Conversion is actually done via an object ("Convert::BinHex::Hex2Bin") which keeps internal conversion state:
# Create and use a "translator" object:
my $H2B = Convert::BinHex->hex2bin; # get a converter object
while (< STDIN >) {
print $STDOUT $H2B->next($_); # convert some more input
}
print $STDOUT $H2B->done; # no more input: finish up

Hex to bin, OO interface. The following operations must be done in the order shown!
# Read data in piecemeal:
$HQX = Convert::BinHex->open(FH=>*STDIN) || die "open: $!";
$HQX->read_header; # read header info
@data = $HQX->read_data; # read in all the data
@rsrc = $HQX->read_resource; # read in all the resource

Bin to hex, low-level interface. Conversion is actually done via an object ("Convert::BinHex::Bin2Hex") which keeps internal conversion state:
# Create and use a "translator" object:
my $B2H = Convert::BinHex->bin2hex; # get a converter object
while (< STDIN >) {
print $STDOUT $B2H->next($_); # convert some more input
}
print $STDOUT $B2H->done; # no more input: finish up

Bin to hex, file interface. Yes, you can convert to BinHex as well as from it!
# Create new, empty object:
my $HQX = Convert::BinHex->new;

# Set header attributes:
$HQX->filename("logo.gif");
$HQX->type("GIFA");
$HQX->creator("CNVS");

# Give it the data and resource forks (either can be absent):
$HQX->data(Path => "/path/to/data"); # here, data is on disk
$HQX->resource(Data => $resourcefork); # here, resource is in core

# Output as a BinHex stream, complete with leading comment:
$HQX->encode(*STDOUT);

PLANNED!!!! Bin to hex, "CAP" interface. Thanks to Ken Lunde for suggesting this.
# Create new, empty object from CAP tree:
my $HQX = Convert::BinHex->from_cap("/path/to/root/file");
$HQX->encode(*STDOUT);

BinHex is a format used by Macintosh for transporting Mac files safely through electronic mail, as short-lined, 7-bit, semi-compressed data streams. Ths module provides a means of converting those data streams back into into binary data.

Perl MUD Client is a text-based MUD client supporting SSL, ANSI, telnet negotations, and MCP. more>>
Perl MUD Client project is a text-based MUD client supporting SSL, ANSI, telnet negotations, and MCP.

PMC is a text based mudclient written in Perl 5. It utilizes GNU readline, supports SSL, local editing support through MCP (MudClientProtocol), full telnet negotiation support and of course ANSI support if your terminal supports it.

Unlike other mudclients with input line editors/history, it also supports the telnet character mode, which enables it to use e.g. fullscreen applications within a mud (like the xeditor found on some LP Muds).

Perl Chat 0.1.1

Perl Chat 0.1.1

http://perlchat.sourceforge.net more>>
Perl Chat is a project that consists of a client and a server, both written in perl.

The goal of this project is to create a chat server that can be used on smaller networks such as a college campus or a business network.

Both the client and the server are written in Perl, and the client uses the Tk module to generate its GUI.

Installation:

First of all you need a working version of Perl. Preferably 5.6 but 5.005X should also work fine. For versions of Perl Chat < 0.1.0 you will need to compile Perl with Threads. (Keep in mind that Threads are still experimental) I designed this program with Perl 5.6.0 which can be found HERE.

You will need to read the installation instructions to compile it with Threads. I advise anyone who is doing this to install this new version of perl into /usr/local/ so as to not overwrite your old perl. Then by changing the first line of the script you can toggle between the different installs of perl.

Program Version Switch 1.03

Program Version Switch 1.03

Program Version Switch is a program to easily switch between different interpreter versions. more>>
pvswitch is a very tiny program which makes it possible to use different program installations on one machine flawlessly.
Its flexibility is intended for people who need to run programs against different interpreter versions.
But it can also be used for different purposes like switching the version of a compiler, text editor, mail reader, browser, whatever.
It is most useful for developers of interpreter based programs which are started via a hash-bang line (#!).
The following example explains the usage for perl programs, but the very same is true for all other interpreter languages.
If you install two or more different perl versions on your machine, you could just call the respective perl binary you want to use..
perl myscript.pl
/path/to/another/perl myscript.pl
This works fine, although it isnt very convenient. However if you are starting your program using the hash-bang line like
#! /usr/bin/perl
and then just start it by
./myscript.pl
you would need to change the file itself to use another perl version. Again it is possible, but not very convenient.
And here comes pvswitch: its purpose is to make such situations convenient. Further it solve some problems which come up if multiple people want to use different perl versions. pvswitch allows even to run one program in two shells with different perl versions.
This is possible because pvswitch uses a environment variable to select the interpreter version to use. This environment variable can be set in different sessions independently.
pvswitch is installed as new program binary (e.g. perl) the old one will be renamed to program.pvswitch.
Now every time you execute a this program (e.g. perl), pvswitch is executed. It doesnt matter how you start the program...
perl myscript.pl
./myscript.pl # if it has a hash-bang #! /usr/bin/perl
for both cases the pvswitch binary will be executed, pvswitch will than check for the environment variable PVSWITCH_PERL_BINARY (if you are running perl), if it is found it tries to find this key in the configuration file pvswitch.conf and execute the program which is configured for the version configured set in the environment variable (e.g. perl.pvswitch).
So it just executes the real program (e.g. perl interpreter). Depending on the environment a different version might be selected.
There are some convenient tools (e.g. perlver, pvconfig) to configure this.
Enhancements:
- Fixed a bug which could cause segmentation violation.

Psunami Bulletin Board 0.5.3

Psunami Bulletin Board 0.5.3

Psunami Bulletin Board is an Open Source alternative to the popular Ultimate Bulletin Board software. more>>
Psunami Bulletin Board is an Open Source alternative to the popular Ultimate Bulletin Board software, and aims for speed, ease of use, and a full feature set.

For installation, do the following:

1)Recursively copy everything from ./cgi-bin/ into your servers cgi-bin/ directory.

2)Recursively chown (chown -R) the psunami/ directory to the user that your web server uses (www-data on Debian, nobody on Slack, httpd on RHat-based systems (Ive been told that it is nobody on someRHat systems), wwwrun on SuSE. Anyone know what it is for others?) If you are unable to chown (eg. you are not the superuser) then make sure it is all readable/writable by the user (777 works, but is probably much too generous). Also do this to the psunami.conf file in cgi-bin.

3)Make psunami.cgi, psunami_admin.cgi, and psunami_moderate.cgi executable by the user that your web server uses. (chmod u+x *.cgi)

4)Change the paths to your perl executable if necessary. The paths are at the top of psunami.cgi, psunami_moderate.pl, and psunami_admin.cgi and default to /usr/bin/perl. Type which perl at a command prompt if you dont know where the executable is.

5)Run psunami_admin.cgi and create a new board. The initial login is psunami and the password is bulletin (no quotes).

6)Make sure that your mail program is configured properly in the preferences. It defaults to /usr/bin/sendmail.

7)Once you have created an account for yourself and given it admin rights, make sure you delete the psunami user.

Test::Perl::Critic 0.07

Test::Perl::Critic 0.07

Test::Perl::Critic is a Perl module use Perl::Critic in test programs. more>>
Test::Perl::Critic is a Perl module use Perl::Critic in test programs.

SYNOPSIS

use Test::Perl::Critic;

critic_ok($file); #Test one file
all_critic_ok($dir_1, $dir_2, $dir_N ); #Test all files in several $dirs
all_critic_ok() #Test all files in distro

Test::Perl::Critic wraps the Perl::Critic engine in a convenient subroutine suitable for test programs written using the Test::More framework. This makes it easy to integrate coding-standards enforcement into the build process. For ultimate convenience (at the expense of some flexibility), see the criticism pragma.
