Fast Messaging Peer to Peer 0.8.0-dev
Fast Messaging Peer to Peer (FM P2P) is a simple P2P program that forms a TCP-based overlay network. more>>
Fast Messaging Peer to Peer (FM P2P) is a simple P2P program that forms a TCP-based overlay network by which a user may chat or share files.
Why name this FastMessaging when its anything but fast? Simply put, it is a reference to the underlying functioning of the application. TCUP, the protocol used to do the overlay network (the network we build ontop of an existing TCP/IP network) is message based.
We think it is Fast because there is no queueing or long searches. FastMessaging is built to construct moderately sized networks which have reasonably high responsiveness at the cost of global information sharing.
Perhaps thats not the best reasoning, but it works. Its just a name and the application needs a better name anyway. For now I just refer to it as FM.

Peers 0.20050929
Peers is a distributed programming toolkit designed for building peer-to-peer systems. more>>
Peers is a distributed programming toolkit designed for building peer-to-peer systems. The toolkit is a hybrid language project which offers low level primitives for managing concurrency and communication.
Using these primitives, complex P2P protocols and complete systems can be designed and implemented in Python, while maintaining high performance for critical operations.
Enhancements:
- [python] Fixed the exceptions. Now peers exceptions have native python exception representation
- [python] Fixes in the peers-python reference count binding for python-land pointers entering the peers kernel
- [python] Fixed bind/unbind for local objects. bind/unbind are now instance methods that can be normally called.
- [python] Eliminated copying in the python representation of x_data
- [python] Added marshalling support
- [python] Fixed old-style class support in multi-methods
- [rpcc] Eliminated conditions of conflicting type regisration in generated Boost bindings
- [rpcc] Makefile/rule file generation scripts
- [rpcc] python-land marshalling support for XX structs
- [cxx] Added support for GNU libg++ atomic reference counts
- [cxx] Removed the immediate dispatch of remote call returns in the event loop, as it can violate logical ordering if back-calls are performed in the same context.

ZMsgServer
ZMsgServer is a peer-to-peer LAN messaging application written in the Java programming language. more>>
ZMsgServer is a peer-to-peer LAN messaging application written in the Java programming language. I have successfully tested the application on a variety of platforms, under a variety of network conditions, and even in its infancy, it is a very nicely featured application. I use it regularly for sending "reminders" and code-snippets across the network to other machines. A fast and simple way to get a message to another user on the LAN.
Until I get some more comprehensive documentation online, here is a brief overview of how ZMsgServer works. Each machine on the LAN runs an instance of the server, listening on port 7999. If you have another service on your network that uses port 7999, then change the source to a free port. Ill make this configurable via the GUI in a later version.
When another host wants sends a message, it uses the next available port to broadcast the message, which is received via port 7999 on the recipient machine. Messages are sent via an ObjectOutputStream and are instances of the ZMessage class, which is nothing more than a nice neat container for four strings. These messages are received on the targets machine, decomposed, and displayed on the GUI.
When the documentation is online, all will become clear, but for now, download the source code below, as its the best documentation available!

rstudio 0.6
rstudio is a GTK+ GUI that controls programs used in recording, CD mastering, and managing a SHOUTcast server. more>>
rstudio project is a GTK+ GUI that controls programs used in recording, CD mastering, and managing a SHOUTcast server.
The "Radio Station" referred to here is a Shoutcast server. Before you can play any music on the station, you need to either record your own, or use a Peer-to-Peer program or other source to download some music.
The GTK-Gnutella button starts a peer to peer fileshareing program called GTK-Gnutella where you can get a wide variety of music free.
Start Radio station starts up the shoutcast server and its source client, which feeds an mp3 playlist to the server for broadcast.
The playlist file is created when you press the "Close" button in the playlist manager. The playlist manager lets you view either the downloaded files from GTK-Gnutella, or the permanent collection of files. You can select a file, then move it to the permanent collection, only if you are viewing the downloaded files. For either set, you may delete a file, or play it.
Audacity is a very versatile recording tool that can be used to create original content, or to record from other sources, such as a Shoutcast.com station, (or even your own shoutcast station).
Shoutcast.com button starts firefox, with the url of http://www.shoutcast.com so that you may listen to other shoutcast stations, or your own.
Kill XMMS stops any running xmms.
Quit exits rstudio.
GTK-Gnutella starts the P-2-P filesharing system.
K3B can be used to master audio CDs, or even mp3 data CDs that can be played on an mp3-compatible cd player or dvd player.
Enhancements:
- A shuffle playlist button was added.
- The audio player was changed to Audacious since Gentoo does not support XMMS.
- This version was tested on Gentoo AMD64 and Kubuntu 386.

SPyRO 0.9.17
SPyRO is a multilingual Object Request Broker (ORB). more>>
SPyRO also know as Simple Python Remote Objects is an experiment to achieve an efficient object communication without lossing portability.
SPyRO is an multilingual Object Request Broker (ORB). SPyRO uses the most efficient (or available) connection between peers to minimize costs of transport and parsing in the communication.
SPyRO is written using the Python programming language, and it provides a transparent remote object access, without the hassle of the connection management, or checking the state of the object. We can connect SPyRO with applications developed with any other programming language.
SPyRO provides several tools to manage connections and object operations using a high level description. This is done without compromising low level management. The programmer can ultimately resort to Python to perform low level management of the connection or any aspect of the object using the specialized API of Python.
Main features:
- SPyRO module
- threadutils package: A set of tools to manage pools of threads, and periodic executions of functions (ThreadPool, PeriodicExecution, and ServerInThread modules )
- shttp package: A lightweight http server and client library
- warn package: A very simple warning package
- Additionally to SPyRO, the SPyDI engine is provided in a different distribution, available from the same source (site and documentation under construction)
SPyRO can be used in distributed, peer to peer, or simply client server architecture to develop networked applications and games.
Enhancements:
- Documentation updates and API updates were done.
- The default location was changed to /SPyRO?XMLRPC.

OpenRPG project is suite of RPG utilities for online and tabletop gaming.
More accurately described, OpenRPG is a role-playing game shell. In its basic form, OpenRPG is a peer-to-peer chat program with very advanced die rolling capabilities, a web based miniature map (think virtual table top), and a data organizer (game tree).
