PearPC 0.4
PearPC is an architecture-independent PowerPC platform emulator capable of running most PowerPC operating systems. more>>
PearPC is an architecture-independent PowerPC platform emulator capable of running most PowerPC operating systems.
This release fixes an ugly partition mapping bug which prevented PearPC to boot OpenDarwin. But the fix might cause regressions: so if your image is no longer booting and you can compile pearpc yourself, please talk to the pearpc-devel mailing list.
Installation:
-Get the Mandrake Installations CDs from a near mirror.
-Read the getting started document first.
-Join the club.
-Make sure you have configured with a big harddisk (3 GiB should do) and a CDROM with the Mandrake 9.1 PPC CD1 inserted. Select a 15 bit video mode. (ppc_start_resolution to 1, 4 or 7)
-Boot and you should get the yaboot menu.
-Press enter and wait.
-At some point, a graphical installer will show up.
-I wont partition your disk for you so you have to do it on your own
create 2 partitions: Apple bootstrap and a Linux onecontinue install.
It will ask you to insert another CD. Click "Change CD" and choose a different .iso or simply insert a different CD. Continue.
-Something bad may happen in the end of the install. Nevermind.
While the CPU emulation may be slow (1/500th or 1/15th, see above), the speed of emulated hardware is hardly impacted by the emulation; the emulated hard-drive and CDROM e.g. are very fast, especially with OS that support bus-mastering (Linux, Darwin, Mac OS X do).
Because the author has only access to a little-endian machine, PearPC will most likely only run on little-endian architectures. This shouldnt be hard to fix and the author would fix this himself if he such hardware. (You can donate some big-endian hardware to get this fixed!)
Equally, PearPC will probably only run on 32-bit architectures. This shouldnt be hard to fix either. (You can donate...)
A lot of unimplementated features are fatal (i.e. will abort PearPC).
Timings are very still a little bit inaccurate. Dont rely on benchmarks made in the client.
PearPC lacks a save/restore machine-state feature.
No Altivec support yet but being worked on.
No LBA48 (but LBA). Currently no support for hard disks greater than 128 GiB. Disks > 4GiB are not tested very well.

PieSpy 0.4.0
PieSpy is an IRC bot that monitors a set of IRC channels. more>>
PieSpy is an IRC bot that monitors a set of IRC channels. It uses a simple set of heuristic methods to infer relationships between pairs of users. These inferrences allow PieSpy to build a mathematical model of a social network for any channel. These social networks can be drawn and used to create animations of evolving social networks.
PieSpy has also been used to visualize Shakespearean social networks. This page got slashdotted on 11 March 2004, with the site getting 250,000 hits per hour. Thanks to Notnet for making sure it all stayed alive!
PieSpy was presented at the Information Visualization conference (IV04) in July 2004. Read the full paper online. It has also appeared in Computer Weekly, ct magazine, and I was interviewed live on BBC Radio Kent.
Enhancements:
- Now tracks nickname changes. Generates images five times faster. Removes formatting and colors from messages. The source code has been refactored to make it easy to add new InferenceHeuristics, which are used to work out who is talking to whom - if you create any good ones, let me know! The config file lets you apply different weightings to each InferenceHeuristic.

Keep 0.4.0
Keep is a backup system for KDE. more>>
Keep is a backup system for KDE. Keep behavior is quite simple: you choose the files you want to backup, you set up the frequency and the number of backup you want to have, and then Keep will backup them automatically.
In order to compile Keep you need to have unsermake.
Installation:
The simplest way to compile this package is:
1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system. If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute `configure itself.
Running `configure takes a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.
2. Type `unsermake to compile the package.
Enhancements:
- ADD: possibility to use an inclusion/exclusion list when setting up backup source
- ADD: possibility to control rdiff-backup process priority
- ADD: Restore backup wizard now displays last backup date
- FIX: Backup every hour bug fixed

Mapnik 0.4.0
Mapnik is an OpenSource C++/Python toolkit for developing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications. more>>
Mapnik is an OpenSource C++/Python toolkit for developing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications. At the core is a C++ shared library providing algorithms/patterns for spatial data access and visualization.
Essentially a collection of geographic objects (map, layer, datasource, feature, geometry), the library doesnt rely on "windowing systems" and can be deployed in any server environment. It is intended to play fair in a multi-threaded environment and is aimed primarily, but not exclusively, at web-based development.
High-level Python bindings (boost.python) facilitate rapid application development, targeting zope3, django etc.
Main features:
- extensible datasource plug-in architecture (ESRI shape files, PostgreSQL/PostGIS)
- anti-aliasing rendering
- expressions based styling
Enhancements:
- Major feature enhancements were made as well as a bugfixes.
- The new features include projection transformations, multiple named styles in WMS, line following text labels, a shield symbolizer, feature querying, character encoding support, GetFeatureInfo with text/plain and text/xml output, and support for right to left languages.

ExactImage 0.4.0
Exact Image is a fast (and soon modern and generic) image processing library. more>>
Exact Image is a fast (and soon modern and generic) image processing library. For a client we had to optimize the insane time imagemagick spent on certain image processing tasks. After the first code review it became clear that imagemagick was coded for anything but speed.
We protoyped the needed code in C++, just for speed, and archived processing times about 1/20 of what imagemagick consumes.
It is intended to become a modern, generic (template) based C++ library, when time permits. - Hopefully a viable alternative to ImageMagick.
Enhancements:
- Image segmentation and fuzzy image contour pattern matching were added.
- Support for rendering arbitrary vector pathes and text was added through Anti-Grain-Geometry integration.
- The X- and Y-axis flip optimizations were implemented for 16-bit channels, as well as functions to change contrast, brightness, gamma, hue, saturation, and lightness, and invert images.
- The convolution matrix was exported to the CLI econvert.

JPasswords 0.4.0
JPasswords is a password management program with encrypted databases. more>>
JPasswords is a password management program with encrypted databases. JPasswords project allows you to securely store passwords or passphrases, together with related management data like username, entry title, dates and textual notes, on an encrypted disk file. Access to such a file is protected by a single secret key that you define resp. can change at any time.
Password entries may be ordered within groups (which can be nested) and displayed in tree or in table view. Upon retrieval of a password, the program assists you by a "copy to clipboard" function to make password or username quickly available in other applications. Several useful service functions around file management, like copy, merge, backup and restore, make this program a pleasure to use.
The format and encryption method for the database file is compatible with "Password Safe" (Version 2) files as created by CounterPanes (Bruce Schneier) program of the same name.
Main features:
- Maximum passphrase length: undefined
- Text and passphrase formatting: Unicode, platform- and locale-independent (not for file access key which is formatted on the local charset)
- Maximum number of records: limited by given user environment space (main memory or disk space)
- Encryption algorithm: Blowfish CBC (Bruce Schneier), 8-byte block modification scheme; complete regeneration with every save action
- File access shield: SHA-1, Blowfish EBC
- Data security: automatic backup, manual backup and restore
- Data communication: can export and import records over CSV format (RFC-4180 or spreadsheet)
- Application security: automatic program locking (idle time and minimize), manual program locking, covered text storage
- Passwords: automatic random password generation under various aspects
- GUI Languages: English, German, Russian, French
