GLCARS
GLCARS project is Gregors LCARS theme for KDE. more>>
GLCARS project is Gregors LCARS theme for KDE. LCARS is the computer system from Star Trek.
Believe it or not, I didnt create this solely because Im such a trekkie. My main reason is that LCARS (though not real) is a sensible theme for tablet PCs.
Ive also created a fairly gawdy widget set. Its included in the download, but is not in the default theme. You can install it afterwards. Its bright, colorful, and has pill-shaped buttons, like LCARS.
If youd like your panel to look like mine in the screenshot:
1) Move you main panel to the left of the screen.
2) Set its width to 100*(w/1600), where w is the width of your screen.
3) Make it transparent.
4) Add buttons to it as you please (the images I used are included)
5) Create a KasBar, put it at the top of the screen. Make it large for 1024x768, perhaps larger for higher resolutions.
Note: You may have to mess around with kasbar to make it work properly. I cant help much, sorry.
6) Add another panel, also aligned to the top.
7) Adjust your new panels height to taste. I have mine set to 54, for a 1024x768 screen.

UDPcast 20070602
udpcast is an install software via UDP multicast. more>>
UDPcast project is a file transfer tool that can send data simultaneously to many destinations on a LAN. This can for instance be used to install entire classrooms of PCs at once.
The advantage of UDPcast over using other methods (nfs, ftp, whatever) is that UDPcast uses Ethernets multicast abilities: it wont take longer to install 15 machines than it would to install just 2.
UDPcast is released under the GPL 2.0 license.
UDPcast can be started from the included linuxrc boot disk for OS installations, or from the command line when using it for other purposes.
Enhancements:
- The kernel was upgraded to 2.6.21.3 and busybox was upgraded to 1.5.1.
- The code was adapted to Solaris 10 x86 by adding includes and configure checks.
- A patch was made to fix parallel make and make DESTDIR=/tmp/xxx install.
- gcc4 warnings were addressed.

Campcaster 1.2.0
Campcaster is a free and open source automation system for radio stations. more>>
Campcaster is a free and open source automation system for radio stations.
Campcaster is the first free and open radio management software that provides live studio broadcast capabilities as well as remote automation in one integrated system.
Radio is still the most powerful method of disseminating news and educational material to disadvantaged groups and in areas with high poverty, scant technological infrastructure, and/or instability. But while radio is extremely effective, the tools available to most community stations are very limited in function. The Campcaster project addresses this by giving stations a free and open source, end-to-end solution for managing a radio station by using standard personal computers.
Campcaster is the first free and open source radio management software to provide both live studio broadcast capabilities as well as remote automation in one integrated system.
Campcaster has been designed to be modular and scalable. It can be used by both large and small stations in a number of scenarios:
- Unmanned broadcast units can be controlled remotely through the Internet
- An unlimited number of Campcaster-powered PCs in a radio station can deliver live broadcasts as well as program automation by accessing a central audio storage system
- A stations library can be digitized and made centrally accessible from both local studios as well as the web
- Reporters and show producers can file their reports and shows directly to the central archive fron the field via any web browser
Campcaster is capable of combining local audio files and remote web streams, supporting the widely used MP3 format and its open equivalent Ogg Vorbis.
As with all Campware products, multilinguality is a central feature in Campcaster: virtually everything in the user interface can be translated into any language using Unicode. Multilinguality is implemented on all levels of the user interface as well as for the metadata for audio files in the storage system. Campcaster is currently available in 9 languages, and it is very easy to localize into additional languages.
Campcaster has been designed for a Linux environment, but it was built it on top of standard, cross-platform classes. Such an architecture allows for easy porting of Campcaster to different operating systems in the future.

BabyChess 16
BabyChess is a chess program. more>>
BabyChess is a chess program. You can edit chess games, play chess on the internet, and play locally against engines.
BabyChess is distributed as free software under the terms of the GNU GPL.
Main features:
- Games between humans and/or engines can be played in the match window. XBoard engines are supported.
- The chess position editor lets you edit a chess position, and save it in FEN notation, as used by other chess programs.
- The chess game editor understands PGN notation.
- The game archive editor reads PGN files that contain any number of chess games. It displays a list of all games and lets you edit those games using the game editor.
- The ICS client connects you to an Internet Chess Server and lets you play games against human opponents.
- The "evaluator" of BabyChess is a chess engine that uses its own communication protocol. It is not an XBoard engine. This program is given a FEN position as an argument and analyzes the position. During the thinking process, information about the current best move and more is written.
- The game editor uses the chess evaluator to analyze chess positions.
- Internally, the evaluator uses 64 bit numbers even on 32 bit systems, meaning it is possible to analyze more than 2 billion positions on PCs.
- This program implements an XBoard chess engine. It uses the evaluator as a backend.
- In addition to the standard algebraic notation (SAN). French, German and Dutch notations are supported. Figurine notation is also supported, also the current fonts dont make it look good. New notations can be created.

Packet Construction Set 0.5 Beta
Packet Construction Set is a set of Python modules and objects that make building network protocol code easier. more>>
Packet Construction Set is a set of Python modules and objects that make building network protocol code easier for the protocol developer.
The core of the system is the pcs module itself which provides the necessary functionality to create classes that implement packets.
Installation Instructions for Packet Construction Set (PCS)
PCS follows the normal Python conventions for building and installing and there is very little, if any, magic. To install the library and the associated packet classes into your system do:
> python setup.py install < return >
To test your installation do:
> cd tests/ < return >
> python *.py
Some tests fail if you do not have enough privileges to work with the Berkeley Packet Filter. If you wish to run those tests run them using sudo.
To build the documentation you will need pdflatex and a BSD version of make installed. Go into the docs directory and build the documentation:
> cd docs/ < return >
> bsdmake all
you will see PDF versions of the docs.
Enhancements:
- Move my version of Doug Songs Python pcap library into the package.
- Update the Makefile to make sure that we install correctly no matter what target is selected.

Sjinn 1.01
S-Jinn is a free open-source Linux application written in C. more>>
S-Jinn is a free open-source Linux application written in C. It is designed to be used with external TIA/EIA-232 (RS-232) test, measurement, and control devices and allows for rapid prototyping, automation, and deployment. I believe you will find it easier-to-use, more intuitive, and more concise than stty or C-Kermit with regards to command-line and/or scripted RS-232 data acquisition and control.
Popular Linux communications packages like Minicom are easy-to-use, but are primarily designed to work with modems, PCs, and other standard equipment. They typically lack support for all of the possible combinations of UART communication settings required by RS-232 test, measurement, and control devices on the market.
Many popular communications packages lack command-line support. Some provide scripting languages, but S-Jinn frees you from these application-specific languages. S-Jinn allows you to manipulate your data from your favorite Unix shell and/or scripting language whether it be Bash, Python, Perl, Expect, or you name it.
Main features:
- Control RS-232 DTR and RTS lines from the command-line and optionally display DTR, RTS, CTS & DSR status
- Send control characters (i.e. the NULL character)
- Send values in hex
- Specify read length
- Display the read buffer in ASCII, hex or ASCII-over-hex.
- Program & display coded/programmable delay times
- Supports virutally all baud rates, parity, and data lengths found in standard PC UARTS
- Output Formats: Wrap text, truncate lines, add, display, or supress trailing new lines
It is not designed to be used for serial communications with modems or for use as a terminal emulator. There are a large number of free open-source applications available that are much better suited to those functions. S-Jinn is written to work with RS-232 based data acquisition equipment such as: Multimeters, A/D modules , D/A modules, digital inidicators, gauge multiplexers, temperature sensors, humidity sensors, etc.
Enhancements:
- The code was cleaned up to fix compilation issues with some new versions of GCC.
