XPilotNG 4.7.2
XPilotNG is the mother of all 2D team based space games. more>>
XPilotNG is the mother of all 2D team based space games.
XPilot NG is a multiplayer spacewar game based on the mother of all computer games: XPilot - one of the highest rated games on the linux game tome.
Xpilot is a 2D game which can be played in many modes, each man for himself, team games with carry the flag mode, a racing mode, or all out warfare with complex items such as nukes, ecm, heat seeking and smart missiles, armor, tractor beams, afterburners, warping and many more. Items are collected as powerups. Mouse or keyboard can be used to control the ship. most popular currently is team based games which involved alot of quick thinking and strategy.
XPilot NG improves XPilot in several areas. The most important improvement is the support for a new polygon based map format. The new map format allows the use of arbitrary polygons to define walls and other map constructs. Old block style maps are also supported: the server converts them to polygons automatically to take advantage of the improved wall collision detection code. Legacy XPilot clients are also supported even on new polygon maps. The server can approximate wall polygons using blocks although the approximation is not always very accurate (for obvious reasons).
XPilot NG improves the XPilot code base by removing lots of old hacks and generally cleaning up things to make further improvements easier. This clean up has made it possible for the XPilot NG development team to create a new SDL/OpenGL based client that shares much of the code and functionality of the original X client. The SDL/OpenGL client is quite usable and is tested to work on Linux, Windows and MacOS X platforms. Also, last but not least, it looks quite pretty.
Enhancements:
- SDL client: Fixed some memory leaks, e.g. one for HUD messages.
- SDL client: Texture bug fixes, should fix the bug in 4.7.1 where the ship is painted as a white box on some machines.
- Server: Put back the old behaviour that dropped mines are immune to gravity. Explanation is that they are "anchored" to the map the same way as the walls are.
- Server: New option ballCollisionDetaches (default false): Does a ball get freed by a collision with a player?
- Replays: A fix so that big old recordings dont slow down to a crawl.
- Replays: Possibility to jump forward in a recording by pressing number keys: the number pressed tells how many minutes to forward.
- Several other improvements

JOpenChart 0.94
JOpenChart provides a Java library and toolkit for generating and embedding charts into applications. more>>
JOpenChart provides a Java library and toolkit for generating and embedding charts into applications.
JOpenChart is a free Java Toolkit and library for embedding charts into different kinds of applications, no matter if they are server side, desktop or web applications. Commercial solutions are pretty expensive and at the time I started working on JOpenChart, there was no satisfying open source solution available.
Currently, the library provides all the functionality to draw different kinds of charts, like line, bar, pie and plot charts. Additionally, the class structure includes the necessary classes for the encapsulation of sets of data and the classes for all parts of a typical chart, like a coordinate system, coordinate axes, legends, title and chart renderers.
I put great effort into a good design, ie understandable, logical class structures, elegant interfaces, use of abstract classes etc. The library is easily extendable to provide your own functionalities. This is best illustrated by noting, that all the Renderer classes, which paint the charts, have about 150 - 200 lines of code.
Furthermore, a few more or less proof-of-concept classes are finished that demonstrate how to embed charts into web applications or Swing applications using Servlets or a JComponent respectively.
Main features:
- rendering of pie charts, line charts, bar charts and plot charts
- easy extensibility using a simple Renderer interface API
- linear and logarithmic y-axis
- different data model classes for implementing numerical data sets, data sets with non-numerical x-axis values, dynamic data sets for displaying incoming measured data, SQL database query results.
- polynomial and spline interpolation of data sets and linear regression of measured data
- binding data sets to one of two y-axes with different scales
- plotting of mathematical functions given as String parameters
- exporting diagrams as image files at least using PNG or JPEG compression and whatever encoding the Java Advanced Imaging Library supports
- Servlet Toolkit for the easy inclusion of charts into web applications
- Swing components to integrate charts in Swing applications
Enhancements:
- Now renders stacked bar charts and radar charts.
- Fully automatic, and good looking, margin adaption. No more cut-off labels.
- Add data models with differently sized data sets.
- Support for editable data models, enabling real time updated GUI charts, see GraphFrame.java as an example and the TestGUI ant target.
- Now allows manually setting of maximum and minimum x- and y-values, allowing for zooming.
- JDBCPlotter.java allows plotting of SQL query results.
- Various options for controlling rendering style, esp. of bar charts and coordinate systems, see FunctionPlotApplet.java and always TestChart.java.
- e.g Setting the axis units
- and displaying sums on top of bars etc.
- Choose preset shapes and arbitrary colors for your data sets and plot charts, easily implement your own shapes
- RowColorModel is not a singleton instance anymore
- I externalized the ChartDataModelConstraints class, you can provide your own implementation or extend the existing ones. See StackedChartDataModelConstraints as an example.
- Web archive (war file) now supports Tomcat 3.x and 4.x.

Jampal 1.13
Jampal is a free mp3 Library and Jukebox program. more>>
Jampal is a free mp3 Library and Jukebox program.
Main features:
- Jampal stores a music library of over 12000 songs with ease.
- You can sort, organize and categorize your tracks.
- It is very fast. You can sort 12000 tracks in under a second.
- You can update hundreds of track tags in one operation in a few seconds.
- Jampal libraries can be easily customized so that you can organize your music any way you want to.
- You can create your own frames within the ID3v2 standard to categorize your songs which ever way you want.
- The library can be imported into a spreadsheet or text editor program.
- Musicmatch Jukebox libraries can be converted to Jampal and vice versa.
- Most ID3v2 fields are supported, including all text fields and any number of attached pictures.
- Reference information from the ID3v2 standard is included to help understand the purpose and usage of each frame.
- Synthesized voice announcements of song titles (on Microsoft Windows only).
Enhancements:
Java versions 5 and 6
Minor changes (see below) have been made to ensure teh program runs well
with the latest versions of Java.
Cell Selection Display
With the Java version 5 and 6 default table behaviour, it is very
difficult to see which is the current selected cell. A very thin gray
border is painted on a blue background. To make it possible to see the
currently selected cell, Jampal now paints the selected cell in
"unselected" colors. This makes it easier to see where you are before
using "Edit Cell".
Automatic Cell Editing
Added the "Automatic Cell Editing" checkbox and menu item.
Bug with sorting and moving columns
If you moved some columns to new positions then sorted on columns, in
some cases the sort indicator was not removed when the sort no longer
applied.
Sound Distortion
Java versions 5 and 6 use a different default volume setting. The sound
from Jampal would be distorted unless you adjusted the "audio gain" in
the customization page. With this version the audio gain will default to
0 if you are running java 5 or 6.

Solar Visitor 0.2.1
Solar Visitor is a space simulator where the user flies around our Solar System in a 3D view. more>>
Solar Visitor is a space simulator where the user flies around our Solar System in a 3D view. The program and source code are offered free, there are builds for Windows and Linux. Solar Visitor uses the Ogre graphics library. The planets and objects were created with the Blender program.
Because Solar Visitor is a 3D program, performance depends on the capabilities of the users video system.
If you wish you may build from source using available tools but be warned this is not an easy task. An addition to Ogre a compiler and IDE (on Windows) are required. The Ogre web site has installation instructions for its use. Those without c/c++ experience will find themselves jumping in the deep end.
With the release of version 0.2.x the user can view planets rendered from textures which is a vast improvement over the painted colours of 0.1.0. There is still realism to add. For instance, the orbits are engineered to showcase shadow effects and not be realistic, where eclipses are rare.
The program code is released under the GPL, the media are generated from downloadable images on the web, details of location are provided. Images remain the property of respective owners.
Enhancements:
- bugfixes
- tilted orbits

Class::Container is a Perl module with Glues object frameworks together transparently.
SYNOPSIS
package Car;
use Class::Container;
@ISA = qw(Class::Container);
__PACKAGE__->valid_params
(
paint => {default => burgundy},
style => {default => coupe},
windshield => {isa => Glass},
radio => {isa => Audio::Device},
);
__PACKAGE__->contained_objects
(
windshield => Glass::Shatterproof,
wheel => { class => Vehicle::Wheel,
delayed => 1 },
radio => Audio::MP3,
);
sub new {
my $package = shift;
# windshield and radio objects are created automatically by
# SUPER::new()
my $self = $package->SUPER::new(@_);
$self->{right_wheel} = $self->create_delayed_object(wheel);
... do any more initialization here ...
return $self;
}
This class facilitates building frameworks of several classes that inter-operate. It was first designed and built for HTML::Mason, in which the Compiler, Lexer, Interpreter, Resolver, Component, Buffer, and several other objects must create each other transparently, passing the appropriate parameters to the right class, possibly substituting other subclasses for any of these objects.
The main features of Class::Container are:
Explicit declaration of containment relationships (aggregation, factory creation, etc.)
Declaration of constructor parameters accepted by each member in a class framework
Transparent passing of constructor parameters to the class that needs them
Ability to create one (automatic) or many (manual) contained objects automatically and transparently
