Apt-get Install / Remove Packet 1.0

Apt-get Install / Remove Packet 1.0

Apt-get Install / Remove Packet is a tool to install/remove packets with debian apt-get. more>>
Apt-get Install / Remove Packet is a tool to install/remove packets with debian apt-get.

About Apt-Get:

Advanced Packaging Tool, or APT, is a package management system used by Debian and its derivatives. APT was originally designed to work with .deb packages on Debian systems, but it has since been modified to work with RPM packages via apt-rpm, and to run on other operating systems such as Mac OS X (see fink). On systems with package management based on .deb, such as Debian, APT is a front-end for dpkg.

APT simplifies the process of installing and removing software on Unix systems, by automating the retrieval, (from the Internet, local network, or CD) the configuration, the compiling (sometimes) and the installation of software from APT sources.

There is no apt program per se; APT is a C++ library of functions that are used by several command line programs for dealing with packages, most notably apt-get and apt-cache.

APT front-ends can upgrade the system or specific packages. Packages can be installed or removed. When installing one or several packages, APT front-ends can list the dependencies of these packages, ask the administrator if packages recommended or suggested by newly installed packages should be installed too, automatically install dependencies and perform other operations on the systems packages to allow the installation of the packages. Similarly, to update one or several packages, front-ends can install, remove or update other packages.

APT is often hailed as one of Debians best features, giving Debian the reputation of being a "pain to install, but a joy to maintain", although with Debian 3.1 and its Debian-Installer, Debians installation might be too easy nowadays to keep this true.

Luban programming language Beta 2.1

Luban programming language Beta 2.1

Luban is a component oriented scripting language. more>>
Luban is a component oriented scripting language. Luban is free and open source. Luban is named after a legendary ancient Chinese civil engineer and carpenter two thousand year ago whose constructions are still in use today.
The programming language spectrum seems crowded. Do we have all the tools we need? The author of Luban likes the scripting languages in general because of their usability. Though he always feels the pain for the lack of suitable component model for scripting.
And he personally considers object oriented scripting is too complicated for scripting purpose and will never compete with C++/Java. He eventually created Luban, a scripting language with a robust component model tailored for scripting purpose. Luban is an easy scripting language that is as clean and manageable as Java.
There have been numerous discussions about software component without clear definition. Lubans definition of component is property based object that is similar to Java Bean. User interacts with component by reading and writing property values, and computation could be triggered by the interactions.
The idea of Luban programming language that scripting language needs a different component model other than conventional class hierarchy to fit its scripting environment. A complete mechanism is built in Luban to define, save and categorize components, which is a fundamental feature of Luban.
Enhancements:
- This release adds the new feature to iterate through the elements in Java container objects.
- The following Java types can now be iterated in Luban: Java array, java.util.Collection, and java.util.Map.

Termlock 1.0.1

Termlock 1.0.1

Termlock project blanks a curses compatible character terminal (e.g. xterm, eterm, PuTTY, konsole, dtterm, etc ...) and locks it more>>
Termlock project blanks a curses compatible character terminal (e.g. xterm, eterm, PuTTY, konsole, dtterm, etc ...) and locks it. To unlock the terminal a password must be entered. The password, or rather the password hash, is stored in ~/.termlock.

Basically its like a password protected screensaver for character terminals. Written in pure Python it should be immediately usable on any machine with Python and curses (or a compatible library such as ncurses) installed.

Usage:

termlock [-p | --password]

The password switch prompts the user for a password (which must be confirmed) and uses this to create the ~/.termlock hash file.

To lock the screen simply call termlock with no options. If no ~/.termlock file can be found then an error prompting the user to create it will be displayed

Install:

Termlock uses the standard Python distribution utilities. So it should just be a case of uncompressing the archive and running:

./setup.py install

Obviously the user running this must have sufficient permissions to create a file in the install directory.

Albatross 1.36

Albatross 1.36

Albatross is a small and flexible Python toolkit for developing highly stateful web applications. more>>
Albatross library is a small and flexible Python toolkit for developing highly stateful web applications.
The toolkit has been designed to take a lot of the pain out of constructing intranet applications although you can also use Albatross for deploying publicly accessed web applications.
In slightly less than 2600 lines of Python (according to pycount), you get the following:
An extensible HTML templating system similar to DTML that promotes separation of presentation and implementation for improved program maintainability. The templating system includes tags for:
- Conditional processing,
- Macro definition and expansion,
- Sequence iteration and pagination,
- Tree browsing,
Lookup tables to translate Python values to arbitrary template text. The ability to place Python code for each page in a dynamically loaded module, or to place each page in its own class in a single mainline.
Optional sessions, which can be either:
- Browser based sessions via automatically generated hidden form fields (cryptographically signed to ensure integrity),
- Server-side sessions via a supplied TCP session server,
- Server-side file based session store.
Applications that can be deployed as either CGI programs or as mod_python module with minor changes to program mainline. Custom deployment can be achieved by developing your own Request class.
Over 120 pages of documentation including many installable samples. A primary design goal of Albatross is that it be small and easy to use and extend. The toolkit application functionality is defined by a collection of fine grained mixin classes. Eight different application types and four different execution contexts are prepackaged, allowing you to define your own drop in replacements for any of the mixins to alter any aspect of the toolkit semantics.
Object Craft developed Albatross because there was nothing available with the same capabilities which they could use for consulting work. For this reason the toolkit is important to Object Craft and so is actively maintained and developed.
Albatross is licensed under a liberal BSD open-source license.
Enhancements:
- Improvements and fixes were made to < al-for >, < al-macro >, < al-option >, NameRecorderMixin, and the FastCGI driver.

File::Flock 104.111901

File::Flock 104.111901

File::Flock is a Perl module for file locking with flock. more>>
File::Flock is a Perl module for file locking with flock.

SYNOPSIS

use File::Flock;

lock($filename);

lock($filename, shared);

lock($filename, undef, nonblocking);

lock($filename, shared, nonblocking);

unlock($filename);

my $lock = new File::Flock /somefile;

lock_rename($oldfilename, $newfilename)

Lock files using the flock() call. If the file to be locked does not exist, then the file is created. If the file was created then it will be removed when it is unlocked assuming its still an empty file.

Locks can be created by newing a File::Flock object. Such locks are automatically removed when the object goes out of scope. The unlock() method may also be used.

lock_rename() is used to tell File::Flock when a file has been renamed (and thus the internal locking data that is stored based on the filename should be moved to a new name). unlock() the new name rather than the original name.

File::CounterFile 1.04

File::CounterFile 1.04

File::CounterFile is a persistent counter class. more>>
File::CounterFile is a persistent counter class.

SYNOPSIS

use File::CounterFile;
$c = File::CounterFile->new("COUNTER", "aa00");

$id = $c->inc;
open(F, ">F$id");

This module implements a persistent counter class. Each counter is represented by a separate file in the file system. File locking is applied, so multiple processes can attempt to access a counter simultaneously without risk of counter destruction.

You give the file name as the first parameter to the object constructor (new). The file is created if it does not exist.

If the file name does not start with "/" or ".", then it is interpreted as a file relative to $File::CounterFile::DEFAULT_DIR. The default value for this variable is initialized from the environment variable TMPDIR, or /usr/tmp if no environment variable is defined. You may want to assign a different value to this variable before creating counters.

If you pass a second parameter to the constructor, it sets the initial value for a new counter. This parameter only takes effect when the file is created (i.e. it does not exist before the call).

When you call the inc() method, you increment the counter value by one. When you call dec(), the counter value is decremented. In both cases the new value is returned. The dec() method only works for numerical counters (digits only).
You can peek at the value of the counter (without incrementing it) by using the value() method.

The counter can be locked and unlocked with the lock() and unlock() methods. Incrementing and value retrieval are faster when the counter is locked, because we do not have to update the counter file all the time. You can query whether the counter is locked with the locked() method.

There is also an operator overloading interface to the File::CounterFile object. This means that you can use the ++ operator for incrementing and the -- operator for decrementing the counter, and you can interpolate counters directly into strings.
