teepeedee 0.3.2-pre
teepeedee provides a fast, single-threaded personal HTTP(S) and FTP server. more>>
teepeedee provides a fast, single-threaded personal HTTP(S) and FTP server.
teepeedee is a small, fast, single-threaded file server.
It is very scalable, and can serve multiple files over HTTPS, HTTP and FTP simultaneously, listening on any number of ports and providing entirely different views of the filesystem to different users.
It supports most of the draft-ietf-ftpext-mlst-16.txt FTP extensions, as well as EPRT, EPSV, AUTH TLS, and HTTP 1.1 persistent connections.
vsftpd is 20% slower than teepeedee for 512 transfers, and will probably scale even worse as the number of transfers rises. OTOH both servers were not saturating the link, so possibly the problem was with the wget clients or something wasnt tweaked in the network stacks of the two machines.
teepeedee will probably scale even better on single CPU boxes, because of its single threaded design. On multiprocessor boxes vsftpd might have an advantage. Of course it would be fairly easy to get teepeedee to fork enough times to exploit the multiple processors but I dont have an SMP box so I havent done it.
Enhancements:
- License update
- Include manpage

MyFoxyWeb2 is a Firefox extension that downloads your bookmarks from Yahoo! My Web 2.0 and stores them locally. more>>
MyFoxyWeb2 project is a Firefox extension that downloads your bookmarks from Yahoo! My Web 2.0 and stores them locally.
Social bookmarking is great, but sometimes youre offline. And sometimes youd like to use social bookmarking sites as a repository for some local links (in particular, Yahoo! My Web 2.0 will allow you to do that). So it is very useful to be able to read all bookmarks into your preferred browser. For instance, I have JPackage-related links on all my boxes.
MyFoxyWeb2 is a Firefox extension that provides the same services of foxylicious for Yahoo! My Web 2.0. You can retrieve all your (public) bookmarks and have them neatly organised (possibly in a tag-based hierarchy). Most of the code in MyFoxyWeb2 is actually foxylicious code. MyFoxyWeb2 is free software distributed under the GNU Lesser General Public License.
There is no documentation, as the usage of the extension is really self-explanatory: you must choose a folder in which all your Yahoo! My Web 2.0 bookmarks will be stored. You have some options (hierarchical or not hierarchical, for example), and the choice of pre-deleting all bookmarks in the chosen folder. An item in the "Tools" menu lets the user access the preferences/updating dialog.
As an additional bonus, a right-click menu item helps in adding easily bookmarks to Yahoo! My Web 2.0.

Liblicense 0.3
Liblicense is a library for managing license metadata, in particular CC licensing information. more>>
Liblicense is a library for managing license metadata, in particular CC licensing information.
The idea of this library started out on the IRC channel, in a discussion on how to best help boost the community of software developers working with things related to CC - mostly the metadata format.
Basically, the idea is to write a portable C library that manages metadata for CC licenses, and a bunch of other licenses of interest to the community.
The library will produce licensing information based on the specifications of calling libraries and programs. In addition to generating text for specific licenses, it will also allow an application to enumerate which licenses are currently available and provide descriptive text for each license, and for license features. It should also provide an easy way to specify "verify at" URLs.
The benefit of this library is that applications linking to it can correctly offer licensing choices, and these choices can be transparently updated through package managers as license versions are updated. Human readable descriptions will also be internationalized, preferably using the same .po files used by the CC web site. Hence liblicense will take advantage of package updating and i18n systems to allow applications to always provide c current and correct licensing choices and license text.
Part of the project is also to provide wrappers for the library for other languages, and to help external developers add metadata support to their projects. A good start will probably be to wrap the library for Python, and use it for ccpublisher.
We will also integrate a module system so that libraries can be used to embed and extract metadata in/from common formats.
As liblicense itself deals only with text strings, we can also make GUI libraries to provide dialogs which present these strings to the user in desktop or web applications. This layering ensures that such dialogs present consistent licensing choices.
Enhancements:
- This is the first version to feature desktop integration.
- It now features Gnome Nautilus integration: licenses are displayed and can be written from within Nautilus.
- The integration also takes advantage of emblems to visibly display files as licensed.
- Additionally, it features new modules supporting reading from and writing licenses to MSOffice (pre-2007), FLAC, Ogg+FLAC, MusePack, and SMIL.

Transcode 1.0.3
Transcode is a suite of command line utilities for transcoding video and audio codecs. more>>
Transcode is a suite of command line utilities for transcoding video and audio codecs, and for converting beween different container formats. Transcode can decode and encode many audio and video formats, e.g.
- MPEG-1/2
- MPEG-4(-part 3) (also DivX and XviD variants)
- Quicktime / MPEG-PS (dvd) (decode only)
- MPEG-1-layer-1/2/3 audio
- AC3 audio
Transcode has a variety of video and audio pre and post-processing filters, including (but not limited to):
- video de-interlacing
- audio resampling
- framerate conversion
- smoothing
- cutting
Transcode can import DVDs on-the-fly, or record from Video4Linux (including V4L2 video capturing) devices.
A number of modules are included to enable import of DVDs on-the-fly, Video4Linux (including V4L2 video capturing), MPEG elementary streams (ES) or program streams (VOB), MPEG1/2/4 video, Digital Video (DV), YUV4MPEG streams, Nuppel Video (NUV), quicktime (MOV), MPEG audio layer-1/2/3, WAVE, DIVX, MJPEG, and raw or compressed (pass-through) video frames.
A number of export modules for enable writing DivX ;-), DivX 4.02/5.xx, XviD, Digital Video, MPEG-1/2 or uncompressed AVI files with MPEG, AC3 (pass-through) or PCM audio. More file formats and codecs for audio/video import are supported by the MPlayer and avifile import modules (exporting with avifile is restricted to video codecs, with MPEG/PCM or AC3 (pass-through) audio provided by transcode). Limited DVD subtitle rendering is also available.
Its modular concept is intended to provide flexibility and easy user extensibility to include other video/audio codecs or file types. A set of tools is available to extract, demultiplex and decode the sources into raw video/audio streams for import, non AVI-file export modules for writing single frames (PPM) or YUV4MPEG streams, auto-probing and scanning your sources and to enable post-processing of AVI files, including header fixing, merging multiple files or splitting large AVI files to fit on a CD.
Transcode runs on UN*X like systems like Linux, BSD, and MacOSX.
Transcode loads shared library modules that are responsible for feeding it with raw streams and encoding the frames:
The Import Modules for audio/video decoding are loaded with dlopen system call and are responsible for starting the video and audio streams (directly or via the popen system call) and have a single function interface to the main program. The import is handled by a thread that buffers the video/audio frames.
The main program transcode currently performs a number of simple video/audio frame manipulations (in this order) or allows simple pass-through of raw frame data:
Video:
- cut out arbitray frame region for processing
- de-interlace video frame
- fast enlarging of video width/height by a multiple of 32 rows/column up to 1024x768
- fast reduction of video width/height by a multiple of 32 rows/column
- high-quality resizing with filter
- cut out arbitray frame region for encoding
- rescale (downsample) video width/height by a power of 2
- flip video frame upside down
- mirror image of video frame
- swap R and B bytes in video frame
- transform to b/w video frame
- apply gamma correction
- anti-alias video frame
Audio:
- change the volume of the audio stream
- resample audio stream
- swap byte order in audio stream
- sync video with audio frames (V=0|A=N, V=1|A=N+1,...)
- Filter Plugins:
- Additional effects are available via external filter plugins loaded with option "-J".
The Export Modules for audio/video encoding are loaded via the dlopen system call and the encoder loop is started for the selected frames. In most cases audio and video are handled by the same module.
Enhancements:
- This release includes only critical hotfixes.
- The main highlight is compatibilty with newer releases of ffmpeg libraries.
- Some filters have been updated.

NeoBio pre-alpha

NeoBio project consists of Bioinformatics algorithms in Java.
What algorithms? The current version consists mainly of (pairwise) sequence alignment algorithms such as the classical dynamic programming methods of Needleman & Wunsch (global alignment) and Smith & Waterman (local alignment).
Anything else? Yes, a more efficient approach, due to Crochemore, Landau and Ziv-Ukelson is also available.
It uses Lempel-Ziv compression to speed-up the computation of the dynamic programming matrix. It also relies on the SMAWK algorithm, due to Aggarwal et al., that computes all column maxima of a totally monotone matrix in linear time.
Hum... And all sequence alignment algorithms support simple scoring schemes as well as substitution matrices such as standard BLOSUM and PAM matrices. But so far they support constant gap penalty functions only.
Future versions may contain related algorithms such as multiple sequence alignment, database search and protein structure prediction.
Wow...Last but not least, NeoBio also provides a simple GUI and command line based tools to run the sequence alignment algorithms on DNA and protein sequences.

robots.txt is a script in PHP that acts like a normal robots.txt file, but with a few differences.
When a Spider attempts to access robots.txt, the script will "disallow" access to a list of pre-defined directories. When a normal user attempts to access robots.txt, it will "disallow" access to all directories.
This is a security precuation and an attempt to prevent users from finding "hidden" directories by looking at the robots.txt file.
Enhancements:
- The two serious bugs that meant robots.txt did not function properly were fixed.
- A bug that meant the data printed back would not be parseable by Web crawlers was fixed.
- A new function to clean up data from the files was added.
