HOWTO

How to I create or designate a namespace?

A namespace is two or more words seperated by periods, like "uber.loop", or "acme.database.inventory". All namespaces are in lowercase.

If you do not plan on publishing your code, feel free to use any namespace you want, except the "uber.*" namespace.

If you do want to publish your code, you will need to make a name that is guaraunteed to be unique. There is no standard convention for namespaces, and Im not even sure if there ever will be one. For now, I would recommend that all of your namespaces start with your organizational id, or perhaps your CPAN id.

ZMsgServer

ZMsgServer

ZMsgServer is a peer-to-peer LAN messaging application written in the Java programming language. more>>
ZMsgServer is a peer-to-peer LAN messaging application written in the Java programming language. I have successfully tested the application on a variety of platforms, under a variety of network conditions, and even in its infancy, it is a very nicely featured application. I use it regularly for sending "reminders" and code-snippets across the network to other machines. A fast and simple way to get a message to another user on the LAN.

Until I get some more comprehensive documentation online, here is a brief overview of how ZMsgServer works. Each machine on the LAN runs an instance of the server, listening on port 7999. If you have another service on your network that uses port 7999, then change the source to a free port. Ill make this configurable via the GUI in a later version.

When another host wants sends a message, it uses the next available port to broadcast the message, which is received via port 7999 on the recipient machine. Messages are sent via an ObjectOutputStream and are instances of the ZMessage class, which is nothing more than a nice neat container for four strings. These messages are received on the targets machine, decomposed, and displayed on the GUI.

When the documentation is online, all will become clear, but for now, download the source code below, as its the best documentation available!

NNML::Server 1.14

NNML::Server 1.14

NNML::Server is a minimal NNTP server. more>>
NNML::Server is a minimal NNTP server.

SYNOPSIS

perl -MNNML::Server -e server
perl -MNNML::Server -e unspool

NNML::Server server implements a minimal NNTP server. It is (hope-) fully conformant to rfc977. In addition the commands XOVER and AUTHINFO are implemented.

Supported commands:

ARTICLE, AUTHINFO, BODY, GROUP, HEAD, HELP, IHAVE, LAST, LIST,
MODE, NEWGROUPS, NEWNEWS, NEXT, POST, QUIT, SLAVE, STAT

XOVER, XHDR, LIST NEWSGROUPS ng-spec

The main reason for writing this was to synchronize my mail directories across different hosts. The Mail directories are MH-Style with a .overview file in each folder and an active file in the base directory. These are maintained by the Emacs Gnus backend NNML. To get started, you can generate/update this files using the overview program. Upon POST and IHAVE commands this files will also be updated.

To start from scratch use:

touch /tmp/active;
perl -MNNML::Server -e server(base => "/tmp", port => 3000)

To export your mh-Mail use:

perl overview -base ~/Mail
perl -MNNML::Server -e server(base => "$ENV{HOME}/Mail", port => 3000)

The command POST and IHAVE honour the Newsgroups header if not overwritten by the X-Nnml-Groups header. Articles will contain an appropriate X-Nnml-Groups header when retrieved by message-id.

When the client submits the SLAVE command, all forther post requests are spooled in $Config-spool> (usually ~/Mail/NNML.spool) for performance reasons. You can process the spooled articles by submitting the XUNSPOOL command or by calling

perl -MNNML::Server -e unspool

Rejected articles will be saven in $Config-bad> (usually ~/Mail/NNML.bad)

Web Information Saver Beta

Web Information Saver Beta

Web Information Saver saves and organizes texts, infos and quotations from the web. more>>
Web Information Saver saves and organizes texts, infos and quotations from the web.

Saving all kinds of text like news, quotations, informations with source and date for offline use.

The saved infos are sorted in categories and can be searched easily. Very handy for creating papers and researches but also for saving postings from online discussion boards etc, its also possible to save (and view) the information directly in HTML source code.

Why shouldnt i use the Browsers SAVE PAGE.. function?
I did it like this and lost soon the overview. Its always a complete site that is saved -even if you are just interested in one simple sentence! And these large files are scattered all over your harddisc and its uncomfortable to find them or to search within them.

Why shouldnt i use other tools?
Hey! You can use whatever you like. But they all depend on a special operating system or a special browser or they are just expensive. Through the renouncement on platform specific functions, the WEB INFORMATION SAVER is able to run on all major operating systems like Windows, Linux, Unix, MAC OS X etc.

The `configure shell script attempts to guess correct values for various system-dependent variables used during compilation. It uses those values to create a `Makefile in each directory of the package.

It may also create one or more `.h files containing system-dependent definitions.

Finally, it creates a shell script `config.status that you can run in the future to recreate the current configuration, a file `config.cache that saves the results of its tests to speed up reconfiguring, and a file `config.log containing compiler output (useful mainly for debugging `configure).

If you need to do unusual things to compile the package, please try to figure out how `configure could check whether to do them, and mail diffs or instructions to the address given in the `README so they can be considered for the next release.

If at some point `config.cache contains results you dont want to keep, you may remove or edit it.

The file `configure.in is used to create `configure by a program called `autoconf. You only need `configure.in if you want to change it or regenerate `configure using a newer version of `autoconf.

The simplest way to compile this package is:

1. `cd to the directory containing the packages source code and type `./configure to configure the package for your system.

If youre using `csh on an old version of System V, you might need to type `sh ./configure instead to prevent `csh from trying to execute
`configure itself.

Running `configure takes a while. While running, it prints some messages telling which features it is checking for.

2. Type `make to compile the package.

3. Type `make install to install the programs and any data files and documentation.

4. You can remove the program binaries and object files from the source code directory by typing `make clean.
