Beos provides a beautiful set of icons.

Matthew McClintock created a beautiful set of icons for Mac OS X, that I converted to create this icon theme about one the best desktop OS I know.

For the moment, the theme is not fully complete: some of the mime icons are defined. I will finalize it later.

LSE/OS is a nanokernel based operating system dedicated for the x86. LSE/OS is a good choice for PC/104 embedded systems.

X/OS Linux is derived from the Free/Open Source rpm packages of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) under the requirements set forth by their trademark policy.

X/OS has spent considerable effort to avoid using Red Hats trademarks in any way that would imply an association with or sponsorship by Red Hat.

After some delay, the final release of X/OS Linux 4.0 is now available to the public.

The X/OS Linux team has spent considerable effort to assure the label enterprise-grade Linux for this milestone release. With the simultaneous availability of X/OS Linux 4.0 for x86 and x86_64 processor architectures, it delivers the latest “best-of-breed” Free and Open Source software for both 32- and 64-bit platforms.

Highlights include the 2.6 Linux kernel featuring numerous enhancements over the previous 2.4 version, Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux) to apply more granular security policies, improved storage capabilities supporting file systems of up to 8TB and more.

The Global File System (GFS) and Cluster Suite software is included in this release to ease the task of creating and managing advanced cluster configurations, and is available as an extra option during installation. This powerful set of tools provides seamless scalability of applications such as databases, web servers and high-performance computing clusters — with GFS enabling nodes to simultaneously read and write to a single shared filesystem.

Next to providing an advanced server platform, X/OS Linux 4.0 adds various enhancements to the desktop — increasing usability with greatly improved office productivity tools, plug-and-play USB device recognition and power management supporting the ACPI standard.

In addition to compatibility with the de facto distribution for deploying Linux in the enterprise, X/OS Linux strides to include various other useful packages and tools that conform to the standard for mature and robust “enterprise-grade” software. One example is Xfce, an extra option in addition to Gnome and KDE, offering a light-weight desktop environment suited for use on low-end or thin client systems.

Navyn OS is a GNU/Linux distribution based on Gentoo. Navyn OS is a live CD which can be booted from a CD-ROM, but it can also be installed on hard disk.
Most applications included with Navyn OS have very low resource requirements.
Enhancements:
- new kernel 2.6.9; SATA disks are now supported; fixed installation problems; all programs are updated; now you can choose framebuffer resolution during boot; added new programs: LFTP (ftp client), xfsprogs (for XFS partitioning), rar; new security programs gkrellmwireless, macchanger, hydra, stunnel, fping, nast; added script for automounting partitions; added support for mouse with scroll wheel.

Ossim stands for Open Source Security Information Management. OS-SIMs goal is to provide a comprehensive compilation of tools which, when working together, grant a network/security administrator with detailed view over each and every aspect of his networks/hosts/physical access devices/server/etc...
Besides getting the best out of well known open source tools, some of which are quickly described below these lines, ossim provides a strong correlation engine, detailed low, mid and high level visualization interfaces as well as reporting and incident managing tools, working on a set of defined assets such as hosts, networks, groups and services.
All this information can be limited by network or sensor in order to provide just the needed information to specific users allowing for a fine grained multi-user security environment. Also, the ability to act as an IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) based on correlated information from virtually any source result in a useful addition to any security professional.

- P0f, used for passive OS detection and os change analisys.
- Pads, used for service anomaly detection.
- Nessus, used for vulnerability assessment and for cross correlation (IDS vs Security Scanner).
- Snort, the IDS, also used for cross correlation with nessus.
- Spade, the statistical packet anomaly detection engine. Used to gain knowledge about attacks without signature.
- Tcptrack, used for session data information which can grant useful information for attack correlation.
- Ntop, which builds an impressive network information database from which we can get aberrant behaviour anomaly detection.
- Nagios. Being fed from the host asset database it monitors host and service availability information.
- Osiris, a great HIDS.

Nexenta is a complete GNU-based open source operating system built on top of the OpenSolaris kernel and runtime.
It is a result of our inspiration and desire to build a great system based on the best existing software: SunOS kernel and GNU software. We use Debian - one of the best existing software distribution/packaging mechanisms - to glue the numerous pieces together.
At the moment, Nexenta is not part of the Debian Project. Our packages are not present in the Debian database. We are hoping that in the future this will change and our packages will get their "upstream acceptance".
Nexenta OS has been a hard and challenging work, yet every bit of it is fun! We spent many hours building the system and today it is out - itll start speaking for itself.
Nexenta is completely open source and free of any charge.
It contains Apache, MySQL, Perl/Python/PHP, Firefox, Evolution, software update manager, Synaptic package manager, Gaim Instant Messenger, abiword, administration & development utilities, editors, graphics, GNOME, interpreters, libraries and many others. Theres a huge and growing multitude of software: the kernel, network services, databases, utilities, user applications. There is a conglomerate of code and hardware that is constantly changing, improving, and altogether getting more complicated. Somebody once rightly said: free software is only free if time has no value. Nexenta distribution integrates well over 2,300 packages. It installs, runs and upgrades. It delivers!
Nexenta software packages (for the most part) are originated from Ubuntu (Breezy) Linux. Ubuntu (yet another excellent distribution that uses DEB software packaging) contains more than 16,000+ software packages. One of our goals is to make them all available for use on top of our environment.
Today Nexenta runs on both 32-bit and 64-bit x86/x64 platforms. As a prove of relative maturity and a confidence booster - this web portal and the entire development environment (including Bugs and HackZone) are powered by Nexenta.

This is a complete Nexenta OS with select applications on a single CD with network and GNOME environment.
The LiveCD image can be burned into a bootable CD-R/CD-RW, and/or it can be booted in VMWare or QEMU environments. Our LiveCD contains support for 32- and 64-bit x86/x64 platforms.

Symphony is a distribution of GNU/Linux based on the Debian and KNOPPIX GNU/LINUX operating systems. Symphony will do things a bit differently than other Linux operating systems; making it easier to use and more intuitive than most existing distributions.
Package Management: Because Symphony is designed for the home or small business desktop user, Symphony can standardize the core installation. By doing this, Symphony, and third party developers can provide binary packages of applications which include any libraries not included in the base install.
Because those developing the packages can know for sure what software is in a Symphony OS box and what is not, they can build packages without worries of "Dependency Hell".
Orchestra Environment: Symphony will include a simple application toolkit which allows developers to create gui applications much as they would create perl cgi scripts. Using a slimmed down version of Mozilla for rendering and a localhost only httpd server, Orchestra provides all the tools needed to provide a GUI to your perl applications.
Orchestra will be used in Symphony in the package manager GUI, System Configuration tools and in other places. A complete tutorial for creating Orchestra/Perl applications will be published here as soon as the first Symphony Release candidate is released to the public.
