openSUSE KDE Tweaks 10.2
openSUSE KDE Tweaks are actually KDE 3.5.5 (openSUSE 10.2) patches and two RPM tools. more>>
I like and dislike the new kickoff menu at the same time, so I decided to change everything about it that I dont like.
Although my patches were meant to change only the new kickoff menu, I ended up changing other parts of KDE, and even writing two little apps. The results of my hacking are all here, so make good use of it.
The patch provides the following modifications:
bi-kicker:
- Changes the order of the kickoff tabs to a more logical order (in order of access frequency): Favorites, Applications, History, Leave
- Removes the IMHO useless Computer tab (can be replaced with a sysinfo icon in the Favorites tab)
- Corrects the order of Grub entries (to descending) in the "Start Operating System" submenu
- Removes the useless "Restart and boot directly into ..." comments from the Start OS submenu
- Changes the order of the Recently Used Apps to the same order as in the old menu and as in the Recent Documents list (new at top, older at bottom)
- Lower the number of days a New Application entry is kept (1 instead of 3)
- Adds an Uninstall context menu entry which calls the uninstall_rpm script with the *.desktop file as the first parameter
- Changes in the old KMenu the "Recently Used Applications" tag to just "Recently Used" and the "Most Used Applications" tag to "Most Used"
- Adds a rounded corner to the left side of the search mode
bi-kicker_noshadow:
- Everything included in bi-kicker
- Removes the shadow surrounding the menu. Useful for those who enable the nVidia composite mode (providing a cool shadow for all active windows) and would like to avoid a strange double shadow effect.
bi-kdesktop:
- Prevents the unwanted realignment of desktop icons when the Auto Align
bi-kcontrol:
- Removed the "Get New Wallpapers" button from the Desktop Configuration Dialog, because it provides unfiltered access to images that are more and more shameless
- Changes the icon of the Display option (different from the Screensaver option)
bi-krpmview:
- Adds a "Quick Install" button to the krpmview kpart which calls the install_rpm script with the *.rpm file as the first parameter
The RPM-Tools provide:
- Simple and quick solution to install an RPM + konqueror service menu
- Simple and quick solution to uninstall an RPM + konqueror service menu
- No dependency handling

ICBM3D 0.4
ICBM3D project is a Missile Command clone in 3D. more>>
ICBM3D (Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles, 3D) is a 3D game of defense. Like the original "Missile Command" and its clones, this game places you in control of Anti-ICBM weapons which you use to destroy an onslaught of missiles (and other nasties) which are dropping onto your nation.
The game ends when your cities have all been destroyed. You only gain replacement cities by acheiving certain score thresholds during each attack. The differences between Missile Command and ICBM3D is that ICBM3D, as the name suggests, provides a 3D perspective.
You take advantage of X-Windows 3-button mouse to control your firing sight in 3-dimensions and change your viewpoint.
Main features:
- Game Play:
- 1-player 3D action.
- Mouse-controlled gameplay.
- Keyboard-controlled gameplay. (Keyboard settings alterable.)
- Missiles:
- Standard missiles.
- Spiralling missiles.
- Splitting missiles.
- Higher levels have more, and faster missiles.
- Levels 50 and above introduce "wind", blowing the smoke around to confuse you.
- Viewing Modes:
- Mouse-based viewing control.
- View from any point just above to just below your cities.
- View from any point just to each side of your cities.
- View from the point of view of any incoming missile.
- Reduced framerate and "flickery" modes are available to improve game speed and playability.
- Easy support for different languages. (Distributed with English).
- Source Code:
- ICBM3D comes as C source code.
- Many #defines are used, so you can tweak the gameplay and some defaults at compile time.
Python logging module 0.4.9.5
Python logging module is a logging module for Python for use with Python 1.5.2 through 2.2.x. more>>
As this package is included in versions 2.3 and later, only users of earlier versions of Python would need to install this module.
There was a need for a standard logging system in Python, as comprehensively documented in PEP 282 and enthusiastically endorsed by the BDFL in the Parade of the PEPs.
By a happy coincidence, the package described here was already in development and fairly close in intent and design to the description in the aforementioned PEP, borrowing as it did heavily from JSR-47 (now JDK 1.4s java.util.logging package) and log4j.
This page describes it in more detail. As I have tweaked the package to meet comments on PEP 282, I have structured this page in the same way as the original PEP.
This package is now part of Python 2.3, but if you have an earlier version of Python, you can download the package from here and use it with Python versions between 1.5.2 and 2.2.x.

MODx CMS 0.9.2.1
MODx is an open source CMS that helps you take control of your website. more>>
This site demonstrates some of its capabilities: blogging tools, user comments, RSS feeds, dynamic menu generation when adding or removing pages, built in search, integrated forums and bug tracking software, strong security and private/protected web pages...
Techies call MODx a Content Management System (CMS for short). Its also a pretty schwanky Application Framework. A robust and flexible API and an event override system makes building engaging web projects - and changing core functionality without hacking its code! - a breeze.
Not only does MODx help you build sites fast, but it also hides its tremendous power unless its needed. As far as end users know, MODx is just an easy-to-use CMS with tons of freely available resources and one heck of an end user community.
Main features:
- Works in your favorite browser - and yes that means Safari! You can manage your websites from anywhere in the world with an internet connection and IE 5.5+, Safari 1.3+, Firefox 1.0+. Did you figure out your other favorite browser will work? Share it with our community.
- Installer Improvements - its now easier for less experienced users to get up and running fast.
- Improved Rich Text Editors - All MODx RTEs are optional plug-ins, making for a smaller base download. FCKeditor ships out of the box. Adding new RTEs to MODx is simple with TinyMCE available now as an optional download and Textile, Markdown and widgEditors on their way.
- Strong Web Standards Support - MODx does not force you into awkward and confusing blocks-this or channels-that templating engines or layout rules. You can build XHTML 1.1 Strict sites just as easily as a tag-soup laden table layout.
- Web 2.0 Features / AJAX - MODx is 100% buzzword compliant! Its the first free PHP-based CMS to offer an API that fully supports Web 2.0 AJAX technology thanks to script.aculous.com and our good friends at Sabre. Expect to see this grow more and more into our manager over time, but you can make use of it today in your own custom applications including live search, web effects, AJAX communications and more. (coming soon...)
- Better handling of aliases and menu indexes - menu indexes at the same level auto-increment as documents are created, SEF aliases are automatically created from the page titles and the system will check for alias conflicts before saving a page.
- New "show in menu" flag - a new flag which can be set on a per-document basis. Handy for using in menu-building snippets to indicate whether or not you want a document to appear in a menu... no more unpublished folders to hide items from menu snippets.
- Improved Meta-tag and keywords controls - consider MODx your #1 free Search Engine Optimization CMS. MODx helps your SEO efforts by making it easier to adjust meta-content of your site on a per-page basis.
- Separate Manager and Web User sessions - simplify your testing and development workflow.
- Improved Document Parser and Error handling - build better custom applications with a more robust API and greatly improved error handling and reporting inside the manager.
- Custom Content Types - use MODx documents to manage your linked Style Sheets, Images and Javascript. Transform them into XML, PDF, Excel or Word documents with snippets and this handy new feature.
- Bug fixes and usability tweaks - a more polished and robust product, bringing us to the home stretch to the official project launch and 1.0 release.
- And a whole lot more... - betcha knew wed say that, didnt you?
Pacman 3.0.4
Pacman project is a simple library-based package manager for Linux. more>>
Pacman is a utility which manages software packages in Linux. It uses simple compressed files as a package format, and maintains a text-based package database (more of a hierarchy), just in case some hand tweaking is necessary.
Pacman does not strive to "do everything." It will add, remove and upgrade packages in the system, and it will allow you to query the package database for installed packages, files and owners. It also attempts to handle dependencies automatically and can download packages from a remote server.
Although the package manager itself is quite simple, the Pacman tarball also comes with scripts that help automate building and installing packages. These are used extensively in the Arch Build System (ABS), used in Arch Linux.
As of version 2.0, Pacman can also keep your systems packages in sync with a master server. You can follow CURRENT and STABLE trees, or lock yourself into a specific version. See the Pacman manpage for more info on this (--sync operation).
As of version 3.0, Pacman has been lib-ified, with a backend library named libalpm (Arch Linux Package Management). Speed in some cases has been improved, and this should allow us in the future to speed development of alternative front ends.
