Speak Freely for Unix 7.6.a

Speak Freely for Unix 7.6.a

Speak Freely is an application for Unix and Unix-like systems which allows you to talk . more>>
Speak Freely is an application for Unix and Unix-like systems (Linux, FreeBSD, IRIX, etc.) with audio hardware, which allows you to talk (actually send voice, not typed characters) over a network. Speak Freely for Unix uses the workstation audio hardware and network to allow conversations of users over the network.

The phone company never gives you a break! You pay a fortune for a leased line connection to the Internet, and you *still* have to pay every time you want to chat with somebody, even though youre both sitting in front of workstations with digital audio capability, linked by a fast network. Speak Freely for Unix can intercommunicate with

Workstations on local area networks can generally communicate with excellent audio quality and response. A software implementation (developed by Jutta Degener and Carsten Bormann, Technische
Universitaet Berlin) of the compression algorithm used in GSM digital cellular telephones allows operation over Internet links of modest bandwidth. By using GSM compression in conjunction with sample interpolation, the data rate can be reduced to about 9600 baud. Users with CPUs too slow or two heavily loaded to perform GSM compression and decompression in real time may select less compact but quicker to
execute ADPCM coding, using an implementation developed by Jack Jansen of the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Perl Chat 0.1.1

Perl Chat 0.1.1

http://perlchat.sourceforge.net more>>
Perl Chat is a project that consists of a client and a server, both written in perl.

The goal of this project is to create a chat server that can be used on smaller networks such as a college campus or a business network.

Both the client and the server are written in Perl, and the client uses the Tk module to generate its GUI.

Installation:

First of all you need a working version of Perl. Preferably 5.6 but 5.005X should also work fine. For versions of Perl Chat < 0.1.0 you will need to compile Perl with Threads. (Keep in mind that Threads are still experimental) I designed this program with Perl 5.6.0 which can be found HERE.

You will need to read the installation instructions to compile it with Threads. I advise anyone who is doing this to install this new version of perl into /usr/local/ so as to not overwrite your old perl. Then by changing the first line of the script you can toggle between the different installs of perl.

MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic Linux Server 1.2.0.0

MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic Linux Server 1.2.0.0

The MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic Linux Server collects IP usage statistics from the network interfaces. more>>
The MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic Linux Server collects IP usage statistics from the network interfaces of the system on which it is installed. It will store the IP data records, and the Traffic Statistic Report Service will create HTML reports from these records.

The MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic Linux Server program can be installed on a Linux machine to collect IP usage statistics from their interfaces. The Traffic Statistics Linux Server will store the IP data records on the Linux machine and the Traffic Statistic Report Service will form the HTML reports Traffic Statistics Linux Server starting from the records. For configuration it is needed to have the Windows GUI installed on another machine, that connects via HTTP to the Linux machine.

The intended usecase is the bandwidth usage monitoring of a Linux gateway to the internet or a VPN peer in an environment of Windows workstations. When installed once properly on the Linux gateway, the Traffic Statistics Linux Server can be configured with the Windows GUI from any client in the network and the statistics can also be viewed using the Windows GUI.

As Linux is a powerful and secure networking OS with features like traffic shaping and rule based packet mangling, there are many reasons to run a Linux gateway even when using otherwise Windows clients for other typical office or industrial applications. The Traffic Statistics server allows administrators or managers to get detailed IP network usage statistics on IP packet level broken down by day, host and service at their Windows workstations. The program is free of charge, free of adware and free of any time or functional limitation. Without having any plugin or upgrade installed it will help users to make wise decisions in the selecting of an appropriate volume tariff model, it allows to monitor volume consumption comfortably in tray in almost realtime so that users are always aware, how far they are from a volume tariffs limit and it shows, which hosts and servers consumed the most traffic in the current period.

We also provide powerful plugins for the Linux server, which make MZL & Novatech TrafficStatistic even more interesting and efficient for monitoring volume consumption on a company level.

OpenKiosk 2.0.6

OpenKiosk 2.0.6

OpenKiosk is a multi-platform kiosk management software. more>>
OpenKiosk is an open-source multi-platform kiosk system designed for use in libraries, offices, schools, internet cafes, airports, conference rooms, and more!

Openkiosk aims to be one of the best kiosk software available in the open-souce community. The following prototype screenshots of the OpenKiosk client reflects its evolution towards the goal of acheiving simplicity and elegance in kiosk terminals.

OpenKiosk, is a system made up of a collection of programs that work together in a local network of inter-connected computers. It is a centralized management software for kiosks. It assumes that the resources are shared and centralized as well, including the Internet connection. This implies that the shared Internet connection to the outside world is assumed to be always on at some point within the local network, perhaps a NAT server. It is up to the client program to automatically limit customers individually from accessing the Internet.

When a customer walks in and uses a kiosk or a workstation, the client program obtains his/her login/user account information. It then sends this login information to the server, which in turn, verifies this data and if valid, returns the access rights and duration of use for the customer back to the client program.

The client program at this point, handles the restrictions transparently including preventing running new programs and making it appear that the Internet connection is down if the time limit is reached or if the administrator manually stopped a customer from continuing to use a kiosk/workstation.

OpenKiosk is primarily designed with the multi-user network in mind. From a library containing 20 public browsing terminals to a large internet cafe or convention center containing hundreds to thousands of kiosks or workstations, OpenKiosk is built with components that are designed to scale up. It is not meant to be used on a single stand-alone computer

The Openkiosk system is basically composed of two parts. The first program is called NodeView. It acts as the OpenKiosk central server containing the client information database. It is responsible for administering all the clients on the network either automatically or manually. Monitoring and controlling the workstations can be done locally via the graphical user interfaces or remotely from a Java Applet in a browser.

The second part is simply called "The Client". It is the actual program that sits between the customer and the operating system interface on the workstations. It is the software which physically limits the users access to the Internet, network resources, the local programs on the workstation itself.

For automatic usage, it can take in membership card login. It is also possible to interface to much more advanced hardware readers such as smart card readers. The client is also capable of simple but important tasks such as remote shutdown, instant messaging, file updates and much more.

Presently, there are two versions of clients. The X11 Linux/Unix version, which is an applet that sits on top of the KDE panel (requires at least KDE 3.X) and the Windows version (Windows 95,98,NT,2000,XP).
