Nagios 3.0b1
Nagios is a daemon written in C that is designed to monitor networked hosts and services. more>>
Nagios (formerly Netsaint) is a daemon written in C that is designed to monitor networked hosts and services.
Nagios project has the ability to notify contacts (via email, pager or other methods) when problems arise and are resolved. Host and service checks are performed by external "plugins", making it easy to write custom checks in your language of choice.
Several CGIs are included in order to allow you to view the current and historical status via a Web browser, and a WAP interface is also provided to allow you to acknowlege problems and disable notifications from an internet-ready cellphone.
Main features:
- Monitoring of network services (SMTP, POP3, HTTP, NNTP, PING, etc.)
- Monitoring of host resources (processor load, disk and memory usage, running processes, log files, etc.)
- Monitoring of environmental factors such as temperature
- Simple plugin design that allows users to easily develop their own host and service checks
- Ability to define network host hierarchy, allowing detection of and distinction between hosts that are down and those that are unreachable
- Contact notifications when service or host problems occur and get resolved (via email, pager, or other user-defined method)
- Optional escalation of host and service notifications to different contact groups
- Ability to define event handlers to be run during service or host events for proactive problem resolution
- Support for implementing redundant and distributed monitoring servers
- External command interface that allows on-the-fly modifications to be made to the monitoring and notification behavior through the use of event handlers, the web interface, and third-party applications
- Retention of host and service status across program restarts
- Scheduled downtime for suppressing host and service notifications during periods of planned outages
- Ability to acknowledge problems via the web interface
- Web interface for viewing current network status, notification and problem history, log file, etc.
- Simple authorization scheme that allows you restrict what users can see and do from the web interface
Enhancements:
- Fixed bug with processing epn directives in Perl plugins
- Fixed bug with check_result_path config option being ignored
- Added $MAXHOSTATTEMPTS$ and $MAXSERVICEATTEMPTS$ macros
- Fixed bug with incorrect output returned from embedded Perl plugins
- Fixed bug where status data file was not read by CGIs using mmap()
- Fix for CGI segfault
- Program status now updated at least every 5 seconds for addons that watch NDOUtils DB
- Added escape_html_tags option to CGI config file to escape HTML tags in plugin output
- Added optional integration with Splunk into the CGIs
- Added new action and notes URL target frame options to CGI config file
- Added new exclude option to timeperiod definitions for easy on-call rotation definitions

SNMP Trap Translator 1.2
SNMPTT is an SNMP trap handler written in Perl for use with the NET-SNMP/UCD-SNMP snmptrapd program. more>>
SNMP Trap Translator is an SNMP trap handler written in Perl for use with the NET-SNMP and UCD-SNMP snmptrapd program. Received traps are translated into friendly messages using variable substitution.
Output can be to STDOUT, text log file, syslog, NT Event Log, MySQL (Linux/Windows), PostgreSQL, or an ODBC database. User defined programs can also be executed.
Many network devices including but not limited to network switches, routers, remote access servers, UPSs, printers and operating systems such as Unix and Windows NT have the ability to send notifications to an SNMP manager running on a network management station. The notifications can be either SNMP Traps, or SNMP Inform messages.
The notification can contain a wide array of information such as port failures, link failures, access violations, power outages, paper jams, hard drive failures etc. The MIB (Management Information Base) available from the vendor determines the notifications supported by each device.
The MIB file contains TRAP-TYPE (SMIv1) or NOTIFICATION-TYPE (SMIv2) definitions, which define the variables that are passed to the management station when a particular event occurs.
Enhancements:
- Various database improvements have been added such as support for proper date/time data types, statistics logging, and custom columns.
- The formatting for unknown_trap_exec can now be changed.
- Support has been added to MATCH for bitwise AND.
- A new log file has been added for logging system messages to a text file for users without access to syslog.
- Various bugs have been fixed, including support for Net-SNMP 5.4 traphandle, a daemon mode PID file, REGEX captures, MATCH modifiers, and others.

Nagios Config project is a Web-based front end for configuring Nagios 1.x.
Nagios is a host and service monitor designed to inform you of network problems before your clients, end-users or managers do. It has been designed to run under the Linux operating system, but works fine under most *NIX variants as well.
The monitoring daemon runs intermittent checks on hosts and services you specify using external "plugins" which return status information to Nagios. Borealis 0.9a
Borealis provides a better feel through use of the subtle aural notifications. more>>
Borealis provides a "better feel" through use of the subtle aural notifications.
The goal of this sound theme is to provide "better feel" through use of the subtle aural notifications. The test I always have in my mind while designing the desktop sounds is to imagine having half-dozen (or more) computer stations in the same office or studio and consider whether their simultaneous use (and resulting desktop sounds) would pose as distraction on users and their productivity. Therefore, in order to minimize the "distraction factor" this theme associates many of the common desktop events with brief, mostly non-pitched, but nonetheless pleasing sound sources (a.k.a. effects).
All of the sounds included have been composed (if applicable), recorded, and mastered by me (although a few of them bear resemblance to other OSs sounds). Some of them are leftovers from my previous compositional and production endeavors, while others are entirely new creations.
All sounds are designed and mixed at CD-quality (stereo, 16-bit, 44.1KHz). Ogg version is distributed as 192Kbit stereo files.
Main features:
- Includes sounds for:
- KDE WM
- KDE System Notifications
- Kdevelop
- Kopete
- KDE Sysguard
- KMail
- Konsole
- Proxy configuration
- K3b (missing 1 sound)
- 4 startup sounds
- 2 exit sounds
- Automated installer and uninstaller
Enhancements:
- Couple improvements to the install and uninstall scripts (thanks to Kirk Strauser for the heads-up!)
