Video Contact Sheet *NIX 1.0.9a
Video Contact Sheet *NIX is a script that creates a contact sheet (preview) from videos by taking still captures of the video. more>>
Video Contact Sheet *NIX or vcs for short, is a script that creates a contact sheet (preview) from videos by taking still captures distributed over the length of the video.
The output image contains useful information on the video such as codecs, file size, screen size, frame rate, and length.
Notes:
Using -i or -n with values that lead to the same number of vidcaps doesnt necessarily yield exactly the same vidcaps, youll have to play with them for best results.
Example: With a video that lasts for 22min 14secs, -n 6 will create the six vidcaps:
3:22, 6:44, 10:04, 13:28, 16:50 and 20:12, while -i 3m will create
3:00, 6:00, 9:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00.
As you can see, -n distributes the vidcaps all over the video while -i N starts at N and goes in increments of it up to the end.
You can set the aspect ratio of the video with -a. It is only required for anamorphic material and discouraged for the rest.
It can take either a floating point number (like 1.33 or 1.778) or a fraction (like 4/3 or 16/9). The latter is slightly preferable.

FindIt NIX project is a clone of a great find-the-difference game.
FindItNIX is a clone of the Windows game FindItXP. The goal is to spot the 5 differences between 2 images within a certain amount of time. The quicker you find them, the higher the bonus will be.
FindItNIX features high scores compatible with those of the Windows version and over 1200 levels available on the Internet.
Enhancements:
- Implemented hack in Makefile so the program links to the libqt-2.x.x.so in stead of the 3.x libraries which cause an unknown problem. Until I fixed this, and qt-2.x.x is
- still on your system you wont have any problems compiling nymore.
- Some minor documentation updates.

dwun 0.96e
Dwun is a *nix network daemon. more>>
Dwun is a *nix network daemon. It is usually used by clients behind an IP Masquerading (NAT) gateway to bring a network link (e.g. modem) up when at least one person says they want the link to be available, and down when no such clients remain.
Dwun is easy to setup because it can use your existing dial scripts.
Since it can run commands when clients run the CONNECT or DISCONNECT commands, dwun can also be used a generic daemon to run administrator-defined commands on behalf of users.
One example of this is to require users to authenticate with dwun before the firewall allows them access.
Main features:
- Can redial automatically.
- User/password authentication. (Although exchanged as clear-text).
- Can run user-specified commands upon clients authenticating and running CONNECT and DISCONNECT commands (for example, using dwun to control network access through firewall configuration or implementing time quotas for users).
- Administrator can lock accounts, kill client connections, force redial etc. remotely.
- Shows clients connecting progress. (By sending them the output of a logfile, or by using chatscripts which interpret errors and report custom messages to users).
- plus standard features such as hostmasks.
Enhancements:
- /etc/dwunrc can have leading spaces.
- recommend that "exec 4>&-" be added to /etc/ppp/ip-up so that dwun wont wait for daemons launched there to exit.
- document that pppd only creates /var/run/ppp-N.pid when the connection is up.
- compile error with Linux libc5 fixed.
- src/snprintf/LICENSE.txt included.

Rubix Linux 1.0
Rubix is a Linux distribution forked from Slackware Linux. more>>
Rubix is a Linux distribution forked from Slackware Linux.
It differs from its parent in that Rubix uses Arch Linuxs pacman for simplified package management with dependency resolution and it has a completely revamped init system, maintaining the BSD style, but adding modularity.
What is Rubix?
- It is a new Linux distribution that is something of a fork of Slackware 10.1.
- It will branch off in its own direction very quickly, in many ways, it already has.
- It maintains the Slackware traditions of Simplicity, Security and Stability.
- It will run on all i486 hardware and newer and is optimized for i686.
- It is designed to support mission critical hardware and be very admin friendly.
- It is a great distribution for knowledgable *NIX users!
- If you know Slackware, you will do great in Rubix!
How is Rubix different from Slackware?
- Rubix uses Arch Linuxs pacman for simplified package management with dependency resolution.
- Rubix has completely revamped the init system, maintaining the BSD style, but adding modularity.
- Rubix uses gcc 3.4.1 and compiles most packages with SSP (aka: ProPolice), and PIE (Position Independant Executable) wherever possible, but will never patch software just to make it compile with SSP andor PIE. This means that Rubix should not be thought of as a hardened distribution as many packages can not be compiled with SSP, however, it does mean that Rubix is harder than most. This logic makes most software more secure and does not require downstream patching for compatability, a major goal of Rubix.
Enhancements:
- This is the inaugural release of the Rubix Linux operating system. Rubix Linux is distributed with the Linux kernel versions 2.6.15.5, 2.4.32 and 2.4.32-grsec. Rubix Linux is well equipped to serve in both desktop and server roles. Rubix has exceptional hardware detection with udev replacing hotplug for 2.6 kernels and the latest KDE desktop version 3.5.1. Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.1 and Thunderbird 1.5 are now the default web browser and email client. Rubix Linux also supports the best modern filesystems including ext2, ext3, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS and now Reiser4 (with 2.6 kernels) from installation.

QuFTP 1.0.7
QuFTP is a command line ftp client for Linux. more>>
QuFTP is a command line ftp client for Linux. It supports the selection of multiple files for upload and download, which are transfered with one command. I wrote this client out of because i didnt saw any reasonable FTP client for linux.
I can almost guarantee that there are bugs in this thing, but it seems to be reasonably stable here, and I can use it for my day-to-day FTP needs. If you find any bugs, or have any comments, please let me know at david@dparrish.com.
COMPILING:
make
INSTALLING:
make install
cp example.quftprc ~/.quftprc
USING:
quftp -h
type "help" to get a list of commands in the program
Feel free to modify the .quftprc file to your liking, there are
instructions included in the file.
Should be sufficiently easy. You must have the GNU readline 4.0 libraries
installed with the headers in /usr/include/readline. (Thats the place
for it in Red Hat). If you are getting segfaults logging in, its probably
because you have an older version of readline installed. This is something
I would love to fix.
I dont plan on porting to Windows because its not worth it.. there
are plenty of good FTP clients for Windows 95, such as Bulletproof FTP
(http://www.bpftp.com/). I dont have access to any *NIX systems other
than Linux, but if you want to port it to anything else, go ahead,
just let me know, preferably with patches.
Script files can be created as just plain text files. These can contain
any valid quftp command, which will be run one after the other. Run the
script with the -s parameter or the run command. If any command fails,
script processing will cancel, unless the -i (ignore errors) parameter
is specified.
The .quftprc file is just a script file that is always run on startup.
Main features:
- Select an unlimited number of files for upload or download
- Full scripting ability
- Command Line Completion
- Work with multiple FTP servers simultaneously
- Transfer files directly between servers
- Transfer any size files of any type
Enhancements:
- Can transfer files with spaces (Bug 204270)
- Dont segfault on responses without response code (like MOTD)

SwingWT 0.89
SwingWT is an implementation of the Swing/AWT APIs over SWT. more>>
SwingWT is a 100% pure Java library which aims to be a free implementation of Swing and AWT. Unlike Swing, SwingWT drives native peer widgets for your platform from SWT. You can see a screenshot of the basic SwingWT demo here (Linux/GTK2) and here (MacOSX).
Main features:
- More responsive GUIs and faster startup times
- Less RAM usage for applications
- Many developers prefer the Swing API
- Existing Swing applications dont need to be recoded
- Mature Swing UI designers can be used
- Developers deploying to *nix/Win32 can compile natively with GCJ and the applications can be distributed without a VM. Linux distribution makers could package many existing Java/Swing applications that previously could not be distributed in workable state.
- SWT components can be directly accessed through the API, allowing mix and match (make Eclipse plugins with Swing!)
- All platform benefits such as font sub-pixel decimation for LCD monitors (unavailable in Swing)
- Use Swing on mobile devices!
- The best of both worlds! New Swing components for JClosableTabbedPane, JCoolBar, JTaskTrayItem..
- A FREE implementation of Swing you can redistribute and modify to suit your own requirements
- Insulation from changes to the SWT APIs
- Insulation from differences between SWT platforms
Enhancements:
- This release contains many fixes and compatibility improvements, including support for AudioClip and SWT 3.2.

- supports non-English multi-byte character sets.

o designed for small environments (at home, small companies, workgroups, customer support)
o based on SQLite3 (MySQL or PostgreSQL support for medium/big size environments in planing)
* Easy to Use
o The main target on the development of the WendzelNNTPd was to create an Usenet server everybody can use.
