Free newsstar 1.3.2 software for linux

Newsstar fetches news and posts it to a local server; INN, s-news and sn are supported, and it should be easy to adapt for other servers with some configuration and extra scripts. Its designed for Unix-like systems, and all the development was done on Linux.

There are already plenty of other programs to do this, but what makes newsstar special is that it can make multiple simultaneous connections, not only to one server, but to several, supporting up to 10 threads. Before fetching each article it checks that it hasnt already been downloaded by another thread or in a previous session. It can also pipeline article requests to make better use of available bandwidth.

I wrote it because a number of ISPs I have used suffer from unreliable newsfeeds. There is an excellent free server made available by news.individual.net, but it can be a bit slow at times, and using external servers uses more bandwidth. Therefore I wanted a program which could fetch whatever articles my ISP has available, but use the foreign server to avoid missing posts or getting them very late, and to do it as fast as possible.

PostArmor is an application that helps to keep your electronic mailbox free of unsolicited e-mail, better known as spam: it looks at the relevant parts of your email before it leaves the mail server, and lets the legitimate messages pass through undisturbed, while leaving suspect messages on the server to be reexamined later or just deleted after a while.
PostArmor project works as an email proxy, with support for POP and IMAP, that makes it independent from the e-mail client. As it has been developed in Java, it is also independent from the operating system or platform.
Main features:
- Can evaluate mail on POP3, Secure POP3 (APOP) and IMAP4 servers, presenting itself as a standard POP3 server to the e-mail client.
- Doesnt download the complete messages, evaluates just the headers and caches the results, to save bandwidth.
- Uses a list of known spammers to speed up evaluation, a user-defined list of blocked addresses and a list of valid addresses.
- Has many powerful and tested filter sets included, that can be expanded by the user: filters can take advantage of a pattern matching technique to check against many similar subjects at once.
- Verifies the validity of the sender, to filter out fake addresses.
- Bounces the message back to the sender, simulating a wrong address.
- Generates an e-mail report of the messages blocked on the server.
- Sends to SpamCop the spam to examine.
- Automatically uses SpamCops, as well as other blacklists.
- Automatically deletes messages after a preset time or over a preset score.
- Can be used both in GUI mode, for end users, and in console mode on a server, to filter out many accounts at once.
- Has a GUI that takes advantage of localization: the software is already completely localized in French, Spanish and Italian.
- Its free! While you run it just for personal use, on your own e-mail account, you dont need to register nor pay a dime!

EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. EncFS runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library and Linux kernel module to provide the filesystem interface. You can find links to source and binary releases below.

As with most encrypted filesystems, Encfs is meant to provide security against off-line attacks; ie your notebook is stolen, your backups are stolen, etc. The way Encfs works is different from the �loopback� encrypted filesystem support built into the Linux kernel because it works on files at a time, not an entire block device.

You do not need to allocate storage ahead of time for EncFS.

Advantages of a pass-thru system vs an encrypted block device:

An empty EncFS filesystem consists of a couple dozen bytes. With a loopback encrypted filesystem, you allocate a filesystem ahead of time with the size you want.

An EncFS filesystem can be backed-up on a file-by-file basis. A backup program can detect which files have changed, even though it wont be able to decipher the files. This way backups can be made without needing to mount the encrypted filesystem.

An EncFS acts as a translator for filenames and file data and should theoretically be able to pass through to any underlying filesystem. You could have an EncFS filesystem on a DVD, or a DVD mounted remotely and served through a Samba server and mount it locally with EncFS in order to view the encrypted data (your mileage may vary).

LinPHA is an easy-to-use, multilingual, flexible photo/image archive/album/gallery written in PHP.
It uses an SQL database (MySQL or PostgreSQL) to store information about your pictures. It comes with an HTML-based installer, so you dont need experience in setting up SQL databases.
Thumbnails are created as needed and stored in the SQL DB. LinPHA features complete user management, top ten statistics, hidden albums, different themes, filemanager, uploader, slideshow, watermarks, benchmark, printing, and more.

newsq consists of an interactive program to manipulate messages in an outgoing news queue.

newsq allows you to re-edit, view, delete, and postpone messages in your outgoing news queue after youve composed them but before youve uploaded them to your remote server.

It uses the curses library to provide a powerful text-based interface.

News transports currently supported are leafnode, s-news, sn (partial), slrnpull, and NNTP servers in conjunction with a batch file such as used by an INN/suck/rpost or INN/newsstar combination.

xDMS is a tool for decompressing Amiga DMS files. DMS files contain disk images that are these days mainly useful for Amiga emulation.
The program was originally written by Andre Rodrigues de la Rocha, but now it is hosted and maintained by Heikki Orsila.
Enhancements:
- This release adds an option for salvaging broken DMS images.
- A man page has been extracted from the Debian project and improved.
