Kubuntu is an Ubuntu-derived distribution with the K Desktop Environment (KDE). The Kubuntu CDs are made up of Ubuntus base plus KDE. You can get exactly the same effect by installing Ubuntu and adding the KDE packages from the Ubuntu archives.

Kubuntu is the result of several months effort to get KDE 3.4 into Ubuntus main repository and create the first major derived Ubuntu distribution. Kubuntu is not a fork of Ubuntu but an official project of it, sharing the same package archive and infrastructure. It is possible to convert an Ubuntu system to Kubuntu or vice versa.

Edubuntu is a version of the Ubuntu operating system suitable for classroom use. As an educator youll be able to set up a computer lab, or establish an online learning environment, in an hour or less -- then administer that environment without having to become a fully-fledged Linux geek.

Edubuntu is currently under development by the same development team that produces the wildly popular Ubuntu system. Edubuntu a customized version of Ubuntu.

Principal design goals of Edubuntu are centralized management of configuration, users, and processes, together with facilities for working collaboratively in a classroom setting. Equally important is the gathering together of the best available free software and digital materials for education.

Debmarshal is a Debian repository management system. The project is designed to manage a set of local release tracks of modified and additional packages on top of a full public repository (eg. Ubuntu/dapper, Debian/sid ...).

The local database is Berkeley DB for speed. Packaged file overlaps and undeclared dependency problems can be detected. Multiple labels and permanent numbered snapshots are a feature of debmarshal managed repositories.

sx360 is an open source c++ library for dealing with 360 column binary format. Although it is in its infancy, it is very complete in its featureset. The library supports files greater than 4 GB in size.
Project files are available for XCode, Visual Studio 2005, and Linux (autoconf/automake).
sx360 has been tested on :
- Mac OS X 10.4
- CentOS 5 (32 and 64 bit)
- Ubuntu 7.04 (32 bit)
- Windows XP SP2

Baltix project is GNU/Linux distribution, based on Debian and Ubuntu for Lithuanian and Latvian people.
Supported languages are Lithuanian, Latvian, Estionian, Russian, English, Norwegian and other around Baltic region. Main language is Lithuanian (at least for now).
Baltix GNU/Linux is the installable Live CD (starting from 2005, Baltix uses Ubuntu Live CD technology, which is based on Debian-installer components) with Gnome (some version has KDE too) desktops and with user-friendly installer (currently has 2 installers - debian text mode installer (look at http://launchpad.net/products/live-installer/ and http://gnome-ev.de/index.php/GNOME_LiveCD/Documentation/LiveCDInstaller ) and graphical installer Ubuntu-express (http://launchpad.net/products/ubuntu-express/).
Addition packages comparing with Ubuntu are:
- Educational software for kids and adults, including GCompris, TuxPaint, Celestia (space simulator), etc.

Baltix has an automatic installation (autoinstall) feature - it can be installed into computer in about 10 minutes without user intervention.
