Xfree86 4.7.0

Xfree86 4.7.0

XFree86 is an open source X11-based desktop infrastructure. more>>
XFree86 is an open source X11-based desktop infrastructure.

The XFree86 Project, Inc is a global volunteer organisation which produces XFree86, a freely redistributable open-source implementation of the X Window System since 1992.

XFree86 runs primarily on UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems like Linux, all of the BSD variants, Sun Solaris both native 32 and 64 bit support, Solaris x86, Mac OS X (via Darwin), SGIs Irix as well as other platforms like OS/2 and Cygwin.

What XFree86 does, is provide a client/server interface between the display hardware (those physical things like the mouse, keyboard, and video displays) and the desktop environment, (this is typically called a window manager as it deals with how X is displayed i.e. the overall appearance).

Yet X it goes beyond that and also gives the infrastructure and a standardized application interface (API). All of this, makes XFree86 platform-independent, network-transparent and extensible.

IT++ 3.10.12 / 3.99.3.1

IT++ 3.10.12 / 3.99.3.1

IT++ is a C++ library of mathematical, signal processing, speech processing, and communications classes and functions. more>>
IT++ is a C++ library of mathematical, signal processing, speech processing, and communications classes and functions. IT++ library is being developed by researchers in these areas and is widely used by researchers, both in the communications industry and universities. Since 2004, IT++ is also being developed as a part of the European Network of Excellence (NEWCOM).
The kernel of the IT++ library are templated vector and matrix classes, and lots of functions for vectors and matrices. Such a kernel makes IT++ library similar to Matlab.
IT++ makes an extensive use of existing open-source libraries (but not only) for increased functionality, speed and accuracy. In particular BLAS, CBLAS, LAPACK and FFTW libraries might be used. Instead of NetLibs reference BLAS and LAPACK, some optimized platform-specific libraries can be used as well, i.e.:
- ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) - includes optimised BLAS, CBLAS and a limited set of LAPACK routines
- MKL (Intel Math Kernel Library) - includes all required BLAS, CBLAS, LAPACK and FFT routines (FFTW not required)
- ACML (AMD Core Math Library) - includes BLAS, LAPACK and FFT routines (FFTW not required)
It is possible to compile and use IT++ without any of the above listed libraries, but the functionality will be reduced.
The IT++ library originates from the former department of Information Theory at the Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. Because the library is coded in C++, the name IT++ seemed like a good idea at the time. While departments come and go, IT++ have developed a life of its own and is now released under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) for you to enjoy.
IT++ should work on GNU/Linux, Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows (with Cygwin or Microsoft Visual C++ .NET) and Mac OS X (more testers needed).

MonetDB 4.18.0

MonetDB 4.18.0

MonetDB is an open source high-performance database system developed at CWI. more>>
MonetDB is an open source high-performance database system developed at CWI, the Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science Research of The Netherlands.
MonetDB project was designed to provide high performance on complex queries against large databases, e.g. combining tables with hundreds of columns and multi-million rows.
As such, MonetDB can be used in application areas that because of performance issues are no-go areas for using traditional database technology in a real-time manner.
MonetDB has been successfully applied in high-performance applications for data mining, OLAP, GIS, XML Query, text and multimedia retrieval.
MonetDB achieves this goal using innovations at all layers of a DBMS: a storage model based on vertical fragmentation, a modern CPU-tuned vectorized query execution architecture that often gives MonetDB a more than 10-fold raw speed advantage on the same algorithm over a typical interpreter-based RDBMS.
MonetDB is one of the first database systems to focus its query optimization effort on exploiting CPU caches. MonetDB also features automatic and self-tuning indexes, run-time query optimization, a modular software architecture, etcetera.
In-depth information on the technical innovations in the design and implementation of MonetDB can be found in our digital library.
Main features:
- A fairly extensive ANSI SQL-99 language interface including:
- Primary and foreign key enforcement
- View management
- Sub-queries
- Authorization scheme
- Unicode support (UTF-8)
- Support for external functions
- A full-fledged and scalable implementation of XQuery.
- SQL and XQuery query caching to speed up data processing.
- Extensible architecture at any level of sophistication needed.
- The MonetDB engine can be embedded into your application.
- High performance, using highly tuned data structures and algorithms to exploit the power of modern hardware.
- Transaction control at various levels of granularity, which makes query dominant applications run at light speed.
- Tapping into the experiences gained in supporting XML, Multimedia, GIS, etc. applications right op top of a kernel without the overhead often encountered in SQL-based systems.
- Broad hardware spectrum ranging from StrongARM-based PDAs up to Opteron-based Servers (cf. Platforms).
- 32- and 64-bit cross-platform support for:
- Linux, Microsoft Windows, Apple MacOS X, Sun Solaris, IBM AIX, and SGI IRIX;

Solaris::Kstat 0.05a

Solaris::Kstat 0.05a

Solaris::Kstat is a Perl module to access Solaris Kstats from Perl. more>>
Solaris::Kstat is a Perl module to access Solaris Kstats from Perl.

SYNOPSIS

use Solaris::Kstat;
my $kstat = Solaris::Kstat->new();
my ($usr1, $sys1, $wio1, $idle1) =
@{$kstat->{cpu_stat}{0}{cpu_stat0}}{qw(user kernel wait idle)};
print("usr sys wio idlen");
while (1)
{
sleep 5;
if ($kstat->update()) { print("Configuration changedn"); }
my ($usr2, $sys2, $wio2, $idle2) =
@{$kstat->{cpu_stat}{0}{cpu_stat0}}{qw(user kernel wait idle)};
printf(" %.2d %.2d %.2d %.2dn",
($usr2 - $usr1) / 5, ($sys2 - $sys1) / 5,
($wio2 - $wio1) / 5, ($idle2 - $idle1) / 5);
$usr1 = $usr2; $sys1 = $sys2; $wio1 = $wio2; $idle1 = $idle2;
}

This module provides a tied hash interface to the Solaris kstats library. The kstats library allows you to get access to all the stats used by sar, iostat, vmstat etc, plus a lot of others that arent accessible through the usual utilities.
Solaris categorises statistics using a 3-part key - module, instance and name. For example, the root disk stats can be found under sd.0.sd0, and the cpu statistics can be found under cpu_stat.0.cpu_stat0, as in the above example. The method Solaris::Kstats-new()> creates a new 3-layer tree of perl hashes with exactly the same structure - i.e. the stats for disk 0 can be accessed as $ks-{sd}{0}{sd0}>. The bottom (4th) layer is a tied hash used to hold the individual statistics values for a particular system resource.

Creating a Solaris::Kstat object doesnt actually read all the possible statistics in, as this would be horribly slow and inefficient. Instead it creates a 3-layer structure as described above, and only reads in the individual statistics as you reference them. For example, accessing $ks-{sd}{0}{sd0}{reads} will read in all the statistics for sd0, including writes, bytes read/written, service times etc. Once you have accessed a bottom level statitics value, calling $ks->update() will automatically update all the individual values of any statistics that you have accessed.

Note that there are two values per bottom-level hash that can be read without causing the full set of statistics to be read from the kernel. These are "class" which is the kstat class of the statistics and "crtime" which is the time that the kstat was created. See kstat(3K) for full details of these fields.

Solaris::MapDev 0.05a

Solaris::MapDev 0.05a

Solaris::MapDev Perl module contains a map between instance numbers and device names. more>>
Solaris::MapDev Perl module contains a map between instance numbers and device names.

SYNOPSIS

use Solaris::MapDev qw(inst_to_dev dev_to_inst);
my $disk = inst_to_dev("sd0");
my $nfs = inst_to_dev("nfs123");
my $inst = dev_to_inst("c0t0d0s0");
mapdev_data_files(path_to_inst => "/copy/of/a/path_to_inst",
mnttab => "/copy/of/a/mnttab",
dev_ls => { "/dev/rdsk" => "ls-lR/of/dev_dsk",
"/dev/rmt" => "ls-lR/of/dev_rmt" });
my $tape = inst_to_dev("st1");

This module maps both ways between device instance names (e.g. sd0) and /dev entries (e.g. c0t0d0). Vanilla SCSI disks, SSA disks, A1000, A3000, A3500 and A5000 disks are all catered for, as are tape devices and NFS mounts.

FUNCTIONS

inst_to_dev($inst)

Return the device name name given the instance name

dev_to_inst($dev)

Return the instance name given the device name

get_inst_names

Return a sorted list of all the instance names

get_dev_names

Return a sorted list of all the device names

mapdev_data_files

This tells mapdev to use data held in copies of the real datafiles, rather than the current "live" files on the system. This is useful for example when examining explorer output. A list of key-value pairs is expected as the arguments. Valid keys-value pairs are:

path_to_inst => "/copy/of/a/path_to_inst",

A valid path_to_inst file. This is mandatory.

mnttab => "/copy/of/a/mnttab",

A valid /etc/mnttab file. This is optional - if not
specified, no information on NFS devices will be displayed.

dev_ls => { "/dir/path" => "/ls-lR/of/dir/path",
... });

A hash containing path/datafile pairs. The paths should
be one of /dev/rdsk, /dev/osa/rdsk, /dev/osa/dev/rdsk or
/dev/rmt. The datafiles should be the output of a "ls -l"
of the specified directory. A single file containing a
recursive "ls -Rl" of /dev is also acceptable.

mapdev_system_files

This tells mapdev to revert to using the current "live" datafiles on the system - see "mapdev_data_files()"
