PubSubHubbub_Publisher 1.0

PubSubHubbub_Publisher 1.0

A simple, open, web-hook-based pubsub protocol & open source reference implementation more>>

PubSubHubbub_Publisher 1.0 is yet another excellent utility for everyone. It is actually a simple, open, server-to-server web-hook-based pubsub (publish/subscribe) protocol as a simple extension to Atom.

Parties (servers) speaking the PubSubHubbub protocol can get near-instant notifications (via webhook callbacks) when a topic (Atom URL) they're interested in is updated.

This tool works as follow:

  1. An Atom URL (a "topic") declares its Hub server(s) in its Atom XML file, via . The hub(s) can be run by the publisher of the Atom, or can be a community hub that anybody can use.
  2. A subscriber (a server that's interested in a topic), initially fetches the Atom URL as normal. If the Atom file declares its hubs, the subscriber can then avoid lame, repeated polling of the URL and can instead register with the feeds hub(s) and subscribe to updates.
  3. The subscriber subscribes to the Topic URL from the Topic URLs declared Hub(s).
  4. When the Publisher next updates the Topic URL, the publisher software pings the Hub(s) saying that there's an update.
  5. The hub efficiently fetches the published feed and multicasts the new/changed content out to all registered subscribers.
  6. The protocol is decentralized and free. No company is at the center of this controlling it. Anybody can run a hub, or anybody can ping (publish) or subscribe using open hubs.
  7. To bootstrap this, the publisher has provided an open source reference implementation of the hub (the hard part of the protocol) that runs on Google App Engine, and is open for anybody to use.

Zim 0.20

Zim 0.20

Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl. more>>
Zim is a WYSIWYG text editor written in Gtk2-Perl. Zim aims at bringing the concept of a wiki to your desktop. For example every page is saved as a text file with wiki markup. Pages can contain links to other pages, and are saved automatically.
Creating a new page is as easy as linking to a non-existing page. This tool is intended to keep track of TODO lists or serve as a personal scratch book.
Development on Zim started september 2005. This means there is no stable version yet. We are currently in beta testing. New releases will be announced on freshmeat. Please subscribe there to stay in touch.
Zim handles several types of markup, like headings, bullet lists and of course bold, italic and highlighted. This markup is saved as wiki text so you can easily edit it with other editors. Because of the autosave feature you can switch between pages and follow links while editing without worries.
Enhancements:
- Among other fixes, a bug where zim would hang on "new link" on some platforms was fixed, as well as a bug that could corrupt links on "update link".
- New features are the option to control the look of a new page through a template and to control the rendering of pages through a simple kind of stylesheet.
- Support for slow filesystems was added.
- Other improvements include better handling of formatting in the undo stack and the addition of a "document root" setting to the repository.

Avis 1.0.2

Avis 1.0.2

Avis is an event router service compatible with the commercial Elvin implementation developed by Mantara Software. more>>
Avis is an event router service compatible with the commercial Elvin implementation developed by Mantara Software. The project provides a general-purpose, scalable publish/subscribe message bus using content-based subscriptions.
Elvin is a flexible event router that allows arbitrary messages (a.k.a. notifications) to be exchanged via a publish/subscribe model. Elvin clients subscribe to messages using expressions that match messages by their content, an approach that differs from most other message bus systems that operate by selecting messages published on pre-defined channels. Elvin routers can also be federated to construct high-efficiency, wide-area event networks.
The name "Avis" derives from the French word avis, meaning advice or notification.
Applications:
Current uses for Elvin include providing the message bus for instant messaging and virtual presence, device coordination for smart meeting rooms and distributed speech transcription for meetings. It has also been used extensively by Mantara for high-volume financial transaction routing.
Elvin has picked up in so many applications because of its lightweight approach and flexibility. See the examples page to see how it can be employed.
Enhancements:
- This release corrects a number of errors in the router and brings the subscription language parser in closer compliance with the specification.
- All users are advised to upgrade.
