Free standalone application software for linux

OpenVIP software is a flexible video-processing tool for Unix. It consists of two parts:
1. OpenVIP core, which is written in C/C++. You can use it either as a library linked with your code, or as a standalone application for batch processing of multimedia files (you specify what to do in a XML file).
2. OpenVIP GUI written in Python, which provides a user-friendly interface to the core. It is based on the timeline concept: You place multimedia files on the timeline and apply various filters and transitions on them.
Main features:
- Support for a wide range of multimedia files (and codecs) including AVI, MPEG, MP3. We use libraries from the ffmpeg project for reading and writing files. It is also possible to read AVI files using native codecs under Windows.
- A lot of nice plugins including colour transformations, geometric distortions, basic sound processing and transitions between two movies. See the online HTML documentation for screenshots.
- Simple interface for including your own plugins written in C/C++. It is described in the comprehensive Developers Documentation.

Sequoia is a transparent middleware solution for offering clustering, load balancing and failover services for any database. Sequoia is the continuation of the C-JDBC project.
Sequoia database is distributed and replicated among several nodes and C-JDBC balances the queries among these nodes. Sequoia handles node failures and provides support for checkpointing and hot recovery.
C-JDBC is a database cluster middleware that allows any Java application (standalone application, servlet or EJB container, ...) to transparently access a cluster of databases through JDBC.

Whats New in 2.10.9 Stable Release:
- This release fixes a compatibility problem between Appia and Hedera that was introduced by the previous release.

Whats New in 3.0 Beta 2 Development Release:
- This release includes a long list of feature improvements and bugfixes.
- A new embedded recovery log has been implemented for a transactional log without configuration.
- New demos are based on these new features.
- Other usability improvements and performance enhancements are also part of this release.

Pwytter is a standalone Twitter GUI client. This application is intended to be multi-platform.

Winzig is a suite of PIM style applications written in Python/GTK. Winzig is small in code size and screen real estate usage which make it suitable for use on regular computers and PDAs.
The following applications are available: Contact Manager, Calculator, Calendar Manager, Todo List Manager , ASCII/Unicode Browser, X11 color viewer, Notebook
All applications can be used standalone or from within the winzig shell.

Frepple is a Free Production Planning Library.
Plenty of planning tools are available for various production problems, different subprocess, different solver techniques.... A bit suprising, no proper solutions exist in the open source domain. Users often are left with expensive and inflexible tools and resort to spreadsheets to meet their needs.
This project aims at building an open source lightweight framework that easily and quickly delivers a solution for production planning problems. The initial focus is on small to medium sized master planning problems for the discrete manufacturing industry.
For the developer community, the project is also trying to establish a common ground framework for planning applications. Rather than building the basic building blocks (e.g. item, buffer, bill of material, ...) from scratch over and over again, developers can leverage a proven framework to extend with their own extension modules.

Frepple will be the worlds first true open source advanced planning system.
Enhancements:
- A major update in the user interface: all-in-one installation of the user interface, Python, Web server, and database.
- Big performance improvements in the user interface.
- Support for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite databases.
- The forecast module has been greatly improved, and allows for forecast distribution and netting of orders against forecast.
- There are important bugfixes.

CyberTester is a Web-based application originally designed to allow teachers to create tests/exams/assignments (consisting of single-choice, multiple-choices or keywords-based questions) and assign them to students to conduct online tests. Students can login to take these tests and review their results.
CyberTester project is suitable to be integrated into online-education services or used as a standalone Web application for a school, college or university.
This latest version of CyberTester (CyberTester2) is implemented using Java Enterprise Edition (with EJB 3), running on JBoss as it application server and MySQL as the database. CyberTester relies on JBoss to manage persistence, relationships and security.
Main features:
- Highly configurable hierarchy tree to group tests, e.g. a hierarchy of Department-Class-Subject-Topic .
- Administrator tools to create/manage users/groups and assign tests to users/groups.
- Administrator tools to create/manage single-choice, multiple-choices and keywords-matching questions using a rich text editor.
- Administrator tools to create/manage tests that contain questions. A test may have a time-limit and a time window in which it can be taken.
- Student test-taking functionality that can be presented either one question at a time or multiple questions in a page.
- Student test results that can be optionally suppressed or be viewable once a test is completed.
- Charting of students performance (very rudimentary at this stage).
- Time limits on questions and/or tests.
- Support for images and external links (via rich text editor) in questions and answer choices.
- Anonymous users who can take the same test multiple times.

Mozilla Sunbird Project is a redesign of the Calendar component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform standalone calendar application based on Mozillas XUL user interface language. At the moment the Sunbird name is a project name. It is not official and may change in the future.

Our intended user is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird and wants a calendar application based on Mozilla.

In addition, by focusing solely on standalone Calendar, we believe we can make some dents in the overall footprint and performance of the Calendar application by removing components and chrome we dont need.
