RRDTool 1.2.21 / 1.3 Beta 1

RRD is a system to store and display time-series data. more>>
RRD is the Acronym for Round Robin Database. RRD is a system to store and display time-series data (i.e. network bandwidth, machine-room temperature, server load average).
RRDTool project stores the data in a very compact way that will not expand over time, and it presents useful graphs by processing the data to enforce a certain data density.
It can be used either via simple wrapper scripts (from shell or Perl) or via frontends that poll network devices and put a friendly user interface on it.
Whats New in 1.2.21 Stable Release:
- More graph config options.
- An ABS operator for CDEF.
- Several segfaults have been fixed.
- More robust Ruby and Python extension builds.
- Netware and Win32 Makefile updates.
Whats New in 1.3 Beta 1 Development Release:
- Performance was improved with memory mapped IO, fadvise, and madvise.
- Graphing was enhanced by using cairo and pango.

Games::Chess Perl module represent chess positions and games. more>>
Games::Chess Perl module represent chess positions and games.

SYNOPSIS

use Games::Chess qw(:constants);
my $p = Games::Chess::Position->new;
$p->at(0,0,BLACK,ROOK);
$p->at(7,7,WHITE,ROOK);
print $p->to_text;

The Games::Chess package provides the class Games::Chess::Piece to represent chess pieces, and the class Games::Chess::Position to represent a position in a chess game. Objects can be instantiated from data in standard formats and exported to these formats.

NOTATION

See Games::Chess::PGN for full details of the notations.

SAN

Standard Algebraic Notation. The modern international notation for chess games. For example,

1. e4 e5
2. f4 exf4
3. Nf3 g5

FEN

Forsythe-Edwards Notation. A compact representation for chess positions. FEN specifies the piece placement, the active color, the castling availability, the en passant target square, the halfmove clock, and the fullmove number as six fields separated by spaces. For example, the opening position is described in FEN as follows:

rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1

PGN

Portable Game Notation. A notation for chess games, including the moves, commentary, variations, and metadata such as the players, the event, the round number, and the date of the match. For example,

[Event "F/S Return Match"]
[Site "Belgrade, Serbia JUG"]
[Date "1992.11.04"]
[Round "29"]
[White "Fischer, Robert J."]
[Black "Spassky, Boris V."]

mrtg-ping-probe 2.2.0

mrtg-ping-probe 2.2.0

mrtg-ping-probe project monitors round trip time and packet loss to another host. more>>
mrtg-ping-probe project monitors round trip time and packet loss to another host. Still on my TODO list: add own min/max/avg rtt calculation, add perl ping module, add rping and rsh support...
mrtg-ping-probe is a ping probe for MRTG 2.x. It is used to monitor the round trip time and packet loss to networked devices. MRTG uses its output to generate graphs visualizing minimum and maximum round trip times or packet loss.
mrtg-ping-probe depends on the following software being installed on your system: perl (at least version 5.6.1), mrtg (I use version 2.8.8, though any mrtg 2.x version should work), and a ping program that displays a summary of the round trip times upon termination or timeout.
mrtg-ping-probe runs on AIX, BSD/OS 2.1, FreeBSD/2.2.x, IRIX/6.2, Linux, Mac OS X (Darwin 5.4), NetBSD, OpenBSD, OS/2, OSF1 V3.2, Solaris 1.1.2 (SunOS 4.1.4), Solaris 2.5.1 (SunOS 5.5.1), Solaris 7 (SunOS 5.7), Solaris 8 (SunOS 5.8), Solaris 9 (SunOS 5.9), HP-UX 9, Windows 98, and Windows 2000 (english, french, portugesee, and spanish locales).
If you install the Windows ping program that comes with Windows 98, Windows 2000, or WinSock 2.x, mrtg-ping-probe will also run on Windows 95 and Windows 4.0.
Support for additional systems is usually easy to add, as described in the file INSTALL.
Act responsible: do not use mrtg-ping-probe to ping devices without the owners permission. Just imagine 10,000 people would decide to ping your hosts ... mrtg-ping-probe is meant to be used within your network to get round trip time performance figures for your network.
Usage: mrtg-ping-probe [-hsvV] [-d deadtime] [-k count] [-l length] [-o ping_options] [-p [factor*]{min|max|avg|loss|integer}/[factor*]{min|max|avg|loss|integer}] [-r [rsh:][user@]host[:osname]] [-t timeout] host
Enhancements:
- new platforms supported: italian Windows 2000 locale.
- bugfixes: on Windows actually return deadtime when we lost all packets, not 0. the ping child process should actually be killed now on Unix platforms.
- changes: ***** Possible Incompatability ***** raised minimum required perl version to 5.6.1. lots of typos fixed.

Slingshot 0.8.1p

Slingshot 0.8.1p

Slingshot is a two dimensional, turn based simulation-strategy game. more>>
Slingshot is a two dimensional, turn based simulation-strategy game set in the gravity fields of several planets. It is a highly addictive game, and never the same from round to round due to its randomly generated playing fields.

It is a deceptively simple game, the goal is to shoot the other spacecraft through the field of planets, but their gravity makes it tricky. The effects of the gravity mean that although its easy to learn how to play, and to enjoy playing, it could take a lifetime to thoroughly master.

In order to hit your opponent, you can rotate you ship to aim in any direction, and you can change the power with which your projectile is launched - the initial speed at which it flies.

This project is free software as defined by the Free Software Foundation, it is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). This means you are free to download, copy, modify, redistribute, disassemble, analyse or sell Slingshot under the terms of the aforementioned license. Enjoy!

SuperMaze 1.1

SuperMaze 1.1

SuperMaze is a simple to learn and play humorous non-violent hunt-and-shoot game using Smileys as the main actors. more>>
SuperMaze software is a simple to learn and play humorous non-violent hunt-and-shoot game using Smileys as the main actors in a maze style environment. You dont need more than the cursor keys and the space key to control your Smiley. The aim of the game is simple: Hunt each other and try to reach as first the win score.

There are several different mazes supplied with the game in various sizes and styles. SuperMaze is fully networked and multi platform and so playable on a vast amount of computers. Windows and Linux builds are already available. Needless to say that all platforms may play together in networked games.

The game does not require the very latest hardware. A moderate system with 800 Mhz is sufficient to play. See the Screenshots section for some visual impressions.

SuperMaze is freeware! Download your version of the game right now and play a round with up to 15 of your friends online or in a LAN.

Goat 1.2

Goat 1.2

Goat is a tournament organiser assistant. more>>
Goat is a tournament organiser assistant. Goat is designed to help run long tournaments that are primarily organised by e-mail, such as Toulouses Permanent Go Tournament: a round is played each month, and its up to the players to arrange their meeting time and place.
Experience has shown that players need reminders to play their games, give results etc: basically, they need babysitting all along. As soon as the number of players grows, it becomes unpractical to manage this by hand. This is where Goat comes in: after pairing the players, the tournament admin will enter the pairing data into Goat, and Goat will take over all the remaining business.
Goat currently operates entirely in French, however all its source code is in English and I hope to make it easy to add languages. I currently plan to do that after the program has been tested in real life though. If you are interested in getting multi-language support quicker, drop me a line and Ill be happy to add it (or help you add it).
Enhancements:
- This is a massive rewrite.
- Data is now stored in a smarter format that allows you to save all rounds in one file.
- Data is no longer stored in Ssf, but using Data::Dumper (experiments with XML proved to be unusable).
- The code has been reorganised into modules.
- Helper programs have been added to register a list of players from an address book, export the status of games in HTML, and create new rounds from a Gotha pairing file.
