pop3spam is a POP3 client which connects to a POP3 server and deletes unsolicited mail. If a message has been identified as unsolicited, it can be deleted directly from the POP3 server without the need to download it first.

Eventually your normal mail-retrieval utility (e.g. fetchmail) can gather all (cleaned) mail as usual. The program is intended for people with low bandwidth. Its very annoying if you first have to download lots of large messages just for the sole purpose of deleting them afterwards because your local spam filter debunked them as spam. Its also annoying to download very large messages (attachments) at all.

pop3spam doesnt use any hard wired regular expressions so it should basically work with any recent version. For information about the configuration and use of pop3spam, take a look at the man pages pop3spam(1) and pop3spamrc(5). A sample configuration file exists in the directory doc/ in the source tree.

KmailSpy is a small KDE docking mail preview program (POP3) that can be used to get a list of the current emails on your server complete with size, subject, date-time, and "from" information for each entry.

Individual messages can be read (in ASCII text only), saved (in ASCII text only), or deleted.

KMailSpy is intended to be a convenient and quick way to keep an eye on your email server, preview your email, and delete spam to keep your system free of clutter and potential viruses.

mpop project is a small and fast POP3 client with header based mail filtering capabilities.
mpop is released under the GPL with the additional exemption that compiling, linking, and/or using OpenSSL is allowed.

Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client. Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard.

Sylpheed also has many features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and multipart MIME.

One of Sylpheeds future goals is to be fully internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so youll be able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.

Kshowmail project is a KDE tool to watch mails on a POP3 server. Headers and complete mails can be viewed without loading them to the local mail client. Unpleasant mail can be deleted from the server.
The list of displayed mails can be refreshed via configurable timers. Filters can be assigned to mark known spam for deletion. Multiple accounts are supported.
A sound can be played if new mail arrives. A command menu allows user configurable commands like fetchmail or sendmail. A special command can be defined to send complain mail against spam.
The modifications I provided are mainly Qt/KDE stuff to generate a nice GUI interface. I am using the great development tool kDevelop V2.1.
Enhancements:
- Fixed bug where if you configure 2 accounts, retrieve mail, and then deactivate one of the accounts, its number of messages still reflects in the tray icon.
- Fixed sort of message number and size columns in message list to be numerical rather than alpha.
- Corrected version displayed in the About dialog.

FreePOPs is a POP3 daemon plus a LUA interpreter and some extra libraries for HTTP and HTML parsing. FreePOPss main purpose is translating local POP3 requests to remote HTTP actions on the supported web-mails, but it is really more flexible.
For example there is a plugin to read news from a website as if they were mails in a mailbox. You can easily extend FreePOPs on the fly, without even restarting it. You can add a plugin or modify an existing one simply changing the script file since the plugins are written in LUA and are interpreted on the fly.

FreePOPs can be useful in some situations, here we give the most obvious ones:
- You are behind a firewall that closes the 110 port but you need to read your mail and the web-mail of your mail provider sucks.
- Your mail provider does not allow you to access your mailbox with POP3 protocol, but only through the web-mail service.
- You prefer looking at your mailbox instead of browsing some websites news.
- You have to develop a pop3 server in less than a week and you want it to be reasonably fast and not so memory consuming.
- You are not a C hacker, but you want to benefit from a fast POP3 server frontend written in C and you want not to loose a month in writing the backend in C. LUA is a really simple and tiny language, one week is enough to learn it in a way that allows you to use it productively.

Popcheck is a software that can check your POP3 mail account. Log onto a popserver to see a list of all messages that you have on there, with sender, subject and size for each message.

With an ncurses interface that easily lets you scroll through them, and optionally deleting messages without ever downloading them

This can be useful when youve received big mails that you dont really want to download.

Usage: popcheck [-s pop3 server] [-u pop3 user] [-p pop3 password] [-o filename] [-i filename]

-s and -u are the only ones that are requred. Popcheck will ask you for
a password if it isnt supplied on the command line.

-o and -i are for batch mode. Use with caution, because you can easily delete all your mail using this function.
