xMule 1.13.7

xMule 1.13.7

xMule is a client for the eDonkey peer-to-peer file sharing network. more>> xMule is a client for the eDonkey peer-to-peer file sharing network, intended to bring it to virtually all the major Unix platforms, with a particular emphasis on Linux. xMule is a fork of the LMule client, which itself was originally a Linux-only port of the eMule client.
This project started as an eMule v0.26d port for Linux (see lMule) and thus xMule is an eDonkey network client. Unlike eMule, which uses MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes), xMule uses wxWidgets for the Graphical User Interface and various parts of its core. wxWidgets allows software to compile and run on many platforms. xMule is in the process of supporting more platforms, such as Windows and Macintosh, by making more use of wxWidgets.
During xMules development, eMule also managed to update itself with many new features, such as: the Kad network, AICH, large files support, protocol obfuscation, and more. xMule slowly adapts these new features, as the changes are big and porting correctly takes time.

TorChat 0.9.9.277

TorChat 0.9.9.277

TorChat is a peer to peer instant messenger. more>> TorChat is a peer to peer instant messenger with a completely decentralized design, built on top of Tors location hidden services, giving you extremely strong anonymity while being very easy to use without the need to install or configure anything.
TorChat just runs from an USB drive on any Windows PC. (It can run on Linux and Mac too, in fact it was developed on Linux with cross platform usability in mind from the very first moment on, but the installation on other platforms than Windows is a bit more complicated at the moment)
Tor location hidden services basically means:
Nobody will be able to find out where you are.
If they are already observing you and sniff your internet connection they will not be able to find out
what you send or receice
to whom you are sending or receiving from
where your contacts are located

MadWifi 0.9.3.2

MadWifi 0.9.3.2

MadWifi is short for Multiband Atheros Driver for Wireless Fidelity. more>>
MadWifi comes from Multiband Atheros Driver for Wireless Fidelity. In other words: this project provides a Linux kernel device driver for Atheros-based Wireless LAN devices.
The driver works such that your WLAN card will appear as a normal network interface in the system. Additionally there is support for the Wireless Extensions API. This allows you to configure the device using common wireless tools (ifconfig, iwconfig and friends).
Main features:
- Operational Modes:
- sta -- Station, a.k.a. infrastructure or managed. This device acting as typical WLAN client station. This is the default mode if not otherwise specified.
- ap -- Access Point, a.k.a. master. This device acts as the Access Point for other WLAN client stations.
- adhoc -- Ad-hoc. a.k.a. IBSS mode. This device is in a peer-to-peer(s) WLAN without the need for an Access Point.
- ahdemo -- Ad-hoc Demo. This is an older, non-802.11 compliant, proprietary ad-hoc mode.
- monitor -- Monitor. This device can be used to "sniff" raw 802.11 frames.
- wds -- Wireless Distribution System. This device can be used to create large wireless networks by linking several Access Points together.
- WDS support for transparent bridging over WLAN links.
- Supports Wireless Extensions API.
- One driver for miniPCI and cardbus devices. USB devices are not yet supported.
- Most of the current Atheros WLAN chipsets are supported.
- Supports WEP and WPA/802.11i.
- Support for 802.1x authentication in AP mode.

GNUnet 0.7.2b

GNUnet 0.7.2b

GNUnet is a framework for secure peer-to-peer networking. more>>
GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and authenticated.
GNUnet provides a transport abstraction layer and can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP (IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages.
GNUnet supports accounting to provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.
The goal of the GNUnet project is to provide an infrastructure for secure peer-to-peer networking. All communication in GNUnet is authenticated and link-to-link encrypted.
The economic model makes attacks on the network harder since the economics can be used to control resource usage. GNUnet peers exchange messages using a pluggable transport service abstraction. Currently, transport services based on UDP, TCP, HTTP and SMTP are available.
The GNUnet core provides mechanisms to perform resource allocations for CPU, bandwidth and storage space. The core enforces resource limitations set by the user. GNUnet does not rely on any centralized services.
New Peer-to-Peer protocols can be easily implemented on top of the basic GNUnet infrastructure. Current protocols include anonymous file sharing, a trivial chat protocol, message throughput benchmarking and network topology visualization.
System requirements:
- GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD or Solaris.
- GNU MP Bignum Library (>= 4.0.0)
- libgcrypt (>= 1.2.0)
- gtk+ (>= 2.0)
- libextractor (>= 0.3.3)
Please keep in mind that this is a beta version. There may still be some stability, scalability and performance issues. So far the network is very small. Very little content is yet available. A subscription to GNUnet mailinglists might be a good idea.
Enhancements:
- gnunet-fuse now has support for write operations.
- The latency and performance of various database operations (for both MySQL and SQLite) was improved.
- Fixed bugs include broken error handling in the UDP transport, log rotation not deleting old log files, and crashes in gnunet-update and gnunetd.

MLdonkey 2.9.0

MLdonkey 2.9.0

MLdonkey is a file-sharing client for eDonkey, FastTrack, and Overnet, etc. more>>
MLdonkey is a multi-platform multi-networks peer-to-peer client. Originally, MLdonkey was the first open-source client to access the eDonkey network. The protocol was reverse-engeneered using an efficient protocol sniffer, Pandora .
Currently, with eDonkey , it supports several large networks, such as Overnet , Bittorrent , Gnutella (Bearshare, Limewire,etc), Gnutella2 (Shareaza), Fasttrack (Kazaa, Imesh, Grobster), Soulseek (beta), Direct-Connect (alpha), and Opennap (alpha). Networks can be enabled/disabled, searches are performed in parallel on all enabled networks, but each file is only downloaded from one network (wait for next release !), but from multiple clients concurrently.
MLdonkey runs as a daemon on the computer. It can be controlled using several interfaces: the simplest one is telnet (telnet 127.0.0.1 4000), a more interesting one is a WEB server (http://127.0.0.1:4080/), and a binary protocol allows access using more elaborate Graphical Interfaces (see the GUIs available on your system at the bottom of the page). MLdonkey comes by default with a GTK interface. All these interfaces can be used locally, or remotely (after disabling security restrictions).
MLdonkey is written in Objective-Caml , a powerful language that runs on most Operating Systems.
Enhancements:
- Ocaml 3.10.0 is now the default compiler
- do not compile unmaintained Gnutella/G2 by default
- non-EDK: Discover WAN IP
- Swarmer: Optional linear downloadBT: Improve UTF8 support
- BT: Support user_commit_dir when seeding
- BT: Fix country-based IP blocking

Net::SMPP 1.11

Net::SMPP 1.11

Net::SMPP is an implementation of Short Message Peer to Peer protocol over TCP. more>>
Net::SMPP is an implementation of Short Message Peer to Peer protocol over TCP. This protocol is frequently used in the telecoms and mobile operator world to pass short messages between systems that implement the short message service (SMS). Net::SMPP module is applicable to both european GSM and american CDMA based systems. The SMPP protocol is documented at www.smpp.org

This module aims at fully implementing version 3.4 of the protocol. This module also implements 4.0 and aims to support it fully as well. The 4.0 code is based on documentation freely obtained from Logica (i.e. not under NDA). (It seems 4.0 is only in use in Japan - the rest of the world seems to use 3.4.)

Symlabs (www.symlabs.com) uses this module in real life product development. Despite our commercial objectives, we have decided to make this module available to public in the belief that

- someone else will benefit from it and thus will help us debug and improve it
- we promote better sharing of information about specifications and commonly encountered usage patterns (which may not always be 100% in spec)
- open distribution protects our clients interests

We are committed to keep this module under license substantially similar to the one under which the present release is offered and hope this will encourage contribution from the community. If you need other licensing arrangements, we as copyright holders are willing to accommodate you.

edonkey plus is a free program peer to peer for the peer to peer network edonkey 2000,overnet etc. more>>
edonkey plus is a free program peer to peer (P2P) for the peer to peer network Edonkey 2000, Overnet etc.
Basic aMule Tips
- NEVER run aMule as root.
- If you are behind a firewall or router, be sure that the ports have been opened. The default ports are 4662 (TCP). 4665 (UDP) and 4672 (UDP). If these are blocked, you will receive a "LowID" which results in fewer available sources for the files you are downloading.
- Obtain an appropriate server.met: e.g., if you are a dialup, using a large server list is not appropiate.
- Set your temp and shared directories in Preferences->Directories
- To recursively select a certain directory, right-click over it.
- You should *NOT* share
- Your temp download directory!
- Your /etc directory
- Probably not your /var, /lib, /boot, or /usr directory
- Certainly make sure that any really confidential files (password files, private SSH keys, credit card numbers :) are *not* shared. So generally do not share your entire home directory, although you might want to share some files or directories in it.
- Remember that you get certain download priveledges with those clients (aMule, eMule, etc users) to whom you upload files, in the form of reduced queue waits.
- Please note that compilation with optimizations is supported. However, if you pull a Gentoo, we will probably just tell you to recompile aMule and/or your system with sane compiler-flags before we will attempt to address the problem.
