Less 436

Less 436

Less 436 is designed as a pager which displays text files, and is often used in command-line environments like the Unix shell and the MS-DOS command prompt to display files. more>>

Less 436 is designed as a pager which displays text files, and is often used in command-line environments like the Unix shell and the MS-DOS command prompt to display files.

Windowed environments like the Windows and Macintosh desktops don't need pagers as much, since they have other methods for viewing files.

Less is not an editor. You can't change the contents of the file you're viewing. Less is not a windowing system. It doesn't have fancy scroll bars or other GUI (graphical user interface) elements. It was designed to work on simple text-only terminals.

Less has been used by thousands of people around the world since its release in 1985.

Major Features:

  1. Backwards movement
    • It's hard to believe some people are still using pagers that don't let you move backwards in the file. Even pagers that do let you move backwards often don't work when viewing "standard input"; that is, data that is being piped into the pager from another program.
  2. Searching and highlighting
    • Less lets you search for text in the file you're viewing. You can search forwards and backwards. Furthermore, less highlights the text that matches your search, to make it easy to see where the match is.
  3. Multiple files
    • Less allows you to switch between any number of different files, remembering your position in each file. You can also do a single search which spans all the files you are working with.
  4. Bold and underline
    • Some text files, notably Unix-style "man pages", use overstriking (backspaces) to simulate underlined and bold text. Less interprets this overstriking and displays the text in real underlined or bold mode.
  5. Advanced features
    • Less has a large number of fancy features for advanced users. Once you learn the basics, you'll find you can customize less to do almost anything you want it to do. You can change key bindings, set different tab stops, set up filters to view compressed data or other file types, customize the prompt, display line numbers, use "tag" files, and more.
  6. Portability
    • Less is available on many different machines, different system architectures, and different terminals. Pretty much wherever you go, you'll find less. You won't have to learn how to use a different pager on every system you use.

xMule 1.13.7

xMule 1.13.7

xMule is a client for the eDonkey peer-to-peer file sharing network. more>> xMule is a client for the eDonkey peer-to-peer file sharing network, intended to bring it to virtually all the major Unix platforms, with a particular emphasis on Linux. xMule is a fork of the LMule client, which itself was originally a Linux-only port of the eMule client.
This project started as an eMule v0.26d port for Linux (see lMule) and thus xMule is an eDonkey network client. Unlike eMule, which uses MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes), xMule uses wxWidgets for the Graphical User Interface and various parts of its core. wxWidgets allows software to compile and run on many platforms. xMule is in the process of supporting more platforms, such as Windows and Macintosh, by making more use of wxWidgets.
During xMules development, eMule also managed to update itself with many new features, such as: the Kad network, AICH, large files support, protocol obfuscation, and more. xMule slowly adapts these new features, as the changes are big and porting correctly takes time.

Buddi 2.6.0.0

Buddi is a simple budgeting program targeted for users with little or no financial background. more>>
Buddi is a personal finance and budgeting program, aimed at those who have little or no financial background. In making this software, I have attempted to make things as simple as possible, while still retaining enough functions to satisfy most home users.

Buddi will run on almost any computer which has a Java virtual machine installed. This can include Windows, Macintosh OS X, Linux, and many other operating systems. One thing to note is that you must have Java 1.5 or later installed. If you are running on Macintosh OS X 10.4 (Tiger), and you do not already have it installed, you can get Java 1.5 from http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java2se50release3.html. If you are running on a different operating system, like Windows, please consult the help files. If you need to download a copy of the Java VM, you can do so from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp.

Buddi is currently available in English, German, and Norwegian, and there are plans for Spanish, French and Russian translations in the near future. If you are interested in translating to another language, feel free to do so! I would greatly appreciate it if you also sent me the translated file once you are finished. For more details, please see the developers page at http://buddi.sourceforge.net/en/developers.php.

If you like Buddi and want to help support future work on it, please consider donating via PayPal - you can use the “Support this Project” icon on the bottom of the official Buddi homepage at http://buddi.sourceforge.net).

webERP 3.071

webERP 3.071

webERP is an integrated suite of web-based business management software. more>>
webERP is an integrated suite of web-based business management software. webERP software covers accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory management and general accounting requirements. The key differences with webERP are:
- Complete commitment to the reliability and integrity of the data
- Accessibility that only internet based software can afford
- Flexibility that comes with having the freedom to the software and with code written so accessibly
- No license or maintenance costs! Courtesy of an active open-source community backing the ongoing development of the system
Reliability is the Number One Priority
An accounting system, more than any other system, needs to be reliable. Without reliability and solid integrition, business management software becomes the source of confusion rather than the authority on what is happening in the business. For this reason "reliability" and the integrity of the data produced is the primary focus of the development team.
A key advantage in ensuring that this fundamental requirement of business software is acheived is the extraordinary scrutiny of critical and highly skilled coders that has been given to webERPs open-source code-base.
Since the intial release of the code in 2003, webERP has been refined and extended but always closely controlled keeping strictly to the original aims - chief among them being reliability!
webERP is built upon the most enduring and solid of software infrastructure - dependencies are deliberately minimised. The PHP scripting language now one of the worlds most popular languages - itself an open-source language which has grown alongside the legendary Apache web-server. webERP uses the PHP native interfaces to Postgres or Mysql RDBMS interfaces for the absolute maximum speed and efficiency to the most respected names in the RDBMS industry. Mysql particularly runs some of the largest web-based databases in the world.
Accessibility for Employees and Customers from Anywhere
- 75% of all people in the world have access to the internet.
- It pervades our daily lives now having quietly infiltrated over the last decade.
- There are internet cafes in most cities of the world and many cell-phones/PDAs have internet access that business people carry.
- A web-browser now represents a very familiar environment for most users.
- A web-based system avoids the requirement for expensive VPN type infrastructure and represents the most accessible network for everyone.
The convenience and value of being able to get the correct business answers literally from anywhere in the world is a major driver for most business software now turning to web-based applications - especially due to the increasing globalisation of business.
Flexibility for Companies, Employees and Customers
With so little dependency on operating systems or hardware webERP can be installed on any operating system that can run PHP - that means a choice of any the main operating systems - Microsoft, Macintosh, Sun, Sco, HP or any Linux distribution.
- The business is not limited or restricted to one hardware or software vendor - avoiding vendor lock in
- Open-source code means that the code itself is available to the business to adapt to its requirements or extend to work in just the way the business wishes it to work. In proprietary systems the code is not available and it is prohibatively expensive to adapt the system to work for the business
- Extensive community of knowlege about the workings of webERP is available to tap into
- As PHP is one of the worlds most popular scripting languages - there are many with the skills to learn webERP code. Indeed a primary objective of webERP is to make the code as understandable as possible to business people.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes a couple of bugs - one that would not allow manufactured items cost updates and another that prevented new stock categories from being added.

GNU Parted 1.8.8

GNU Parted 1.8.8

GNU Parted is a partition editor, for creating, destroying, resizing and copying partitions. more>>
GNU Parted is a program for creating, resizing, destroying, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganising disk usage, copying data between hard disks and disk imaging.
Supported disk labels: raw access (useful for RAID and LVM), MS-DOS partition tables, Intel GPT partition tables, MIPS partition tables, PC98 partition tables, Sun and BSD disk labels and Macintosh partition maps.
Notes:
- For ext2, ext3 and reiserfs: the start of the partition must stay fixed.
- For ext2, ext3: the partition you copy to must be bigger or exactly the same size as the partition you copy from.
- For ext2 and ext3: the checking is limited to ensuring the resize and copy commands will be ok.
- For fat: the size of the new partition after resizing or copying is restricted by the cluster size. Parted can shrink the cluster size, so you can always shrink your partition. However, if you cant use FAT32 for some reason, you may not be able to grow your partition.
- Parted supports both FAT16 and FAT32. Parted can convert file systems between FAT16 and FAT32, if necessary.
- Reiserfs support is enabled if you install libreiserfs.

VIPS 7.12.3

VIPS 7.12.3

VIPS is a free image processing system. more>>
VIPS is a free image processing system. It aims to be about half-way between Photoshop and Excel: it is very bad at retouching photographs, but very handy for the many other imaging tasks that programs like Photoshop get used for.
It is good with large images (images larger than the amount of RAM in your machine), and for working with colour. Here is a recent publication on VIPS.
VIPS comes in two main parts: libvips is the image-processing library and nip2 is the graphical user-interface.
Both work on Unix (with convenient packages for Gentoo, Debian, Ubuntu and FreeBSD), Windows (NT, 2k and XP only) and Macintosh (OS 10.2 and later). The VIPS library is licensed under the LGPL and and the user-interfaces are licensed under the GPL.
VIPS has been used and developed in the EU projects VASARI, MARC, VISEUM, ACOHIR, CRISATEL, ARTISTE and MUSA. The Department of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton use it as an image processing framework in research projects.
Its used at The National Gallery, London for most of their imaging research. VIPS is also used in a number of other labs, museums and galleries around the world (including MOMA, the Louvre and BStGS), mostly for infra-red reflectogram mosaic assembly. IIPimage use it to manipulate very large images.
Enhancements:
- A major new release after almost 3 years work: faster, more scaleable, image metadata support, lower memory use, more image file formats, integrated matrix and plot display, background recalculation, many new operations.
