Free keyboard software for linux

mxk is a reasonably sophisticated input rewriting server. The project picks up where conventional keyboard mappings reach their limits.
mxk has been used to generate:
- A chording Braille input system from a conventional keyboard. The system uses the S D F J K L keys of a normal keyboard
- A quick Dvorak to Querty switcher. The switch can be performed with a single keystroke, and works at the X login prompt, in an X session or in the text console
- A macro recorder. Function keys can be used to record macros on the fly
- A keypad mouse. The keypad is programmed to function as a mouse with scrollwheel
- A joystick to mouse mapping. Extra buttons are mapped to common browser shortcuts, making it possible to browse the web with a joystick
- A mouse to arrow mapper. Mouse movements are translated to arrow keypresses
mxk uses the linux evdev/uinput infrastructure. This means that mxk runs entirely in userspace, it doesnt require a special kernel driver or patch.

emelFM2 is a file manager that implements the popular two-pane design.

Little Wizard is a development environment for children. Little Wizard can be programmed without using keyboard, just by using drag and drop.
Even children in primary school can understand how it works. Little Wizard project uses GTK+ and libXML.
Enhancements:
- This release fixes errors found in the parser and other minor problems.

gok is the GNOME Onscreen Keyboard. It features Direct Selection, Dwell Selection, Automatic Scanning and Inverse Scanning access methods and includes word completion.

GOK includes an alphanumeric keyboard and a keyboard for launching applications. Keyboards are specified in XML enabling existing keyboards to be modified and new keyboards to be created. The access methods are also specified in XML providing the ability to modify existing access methods and create new ones.

GOK is not limited to presenting keyboards that have been designed by hand and is able to dynamically create keyboards so that it can adapt to the users current situation. GOK is able to redisplay components of the user interfaces of running applications directly within GOK as keyboards. This provides efficient access to elements of the user interface, removing the need to navigate the interface indirectly
though keyboard accelerators. GOK supports the redisplay of application menus and toolbars. GOK contains a window activator keyboard that lists the current windows on the desktop and provides the ability to switch between them.

Users have the option of setting key width, height, and spacing as well as visual and auditory feedback on highlighting and selection.

GOK can be further customized if you have programming skills, and contributions are welcome. If you build GOK from source, you will find some documentation about Goks internal APIs the gok/docs/reference/html directory.

KeyTouch is a program which allows you to easily configure the extra function keys of your keyboard. This means that you can define, for every individual function key, what to do if it is pressed.

When you buy a new keyboard a CD-ROM will probably included. This CD-ROM contains software to configure the extra function keys (the image above shows an example of extra function keys) of your keyboard with. The problem however is that most of the times the software is not available for Linux.

KeyTouch is the solution to this problem. It allows you to easily configure the extra funtion keys of your keyboard.

keyTouch makes it possible to easily configure the extra function keys of a keyboard (like multimedia keys). keyTouch it allows the user to define which program will be executed when a key is pressed.
