Opera 9.64 / 10.00 Beta Build 4453

Opera 9.64 / 10.00 Beta Build 4453

Surf the Internet in a safer, faster, and easier way with Opera browser. more>>
Opera 9.64 / 10.00 Beta Build 4453 offers you a powerful and very convenient tool which is an easy way to help you surf the Internet in a safer, faster, and easier way with Opera browser. The most full-featured Internet power tool on the market, Opera includes pop-up blocking, tabbed browsing, integrated searches, E-mail, RSS Newsfeeds and IRC chat. Opera supports all major Linux distributions. RedHat, SuSE, Mandrake, Debian, etc. Intel, PowerPC and Sparc versions.

Major Features:

  1. Pop-up Blocking:
    • No more annoying pop-up advertisements. Opera lets you control whether Web sites can use pop-ups. Select to block them all, or let the browser open only pop-ups that you have requested.
  2. Integrated Search:
    • Search your favorite sites, for example Google, eBay, or Amazon without having to go to their Web pages. Use the integrated search window or shortcuts (e.g. "g" for Google) in the address field.
  3. Skins:
    • Give your browser the look you want with Operas skins. Make the browser your own by giving it the colors, icons, and buttons of your choice.

A safer, faster, and more intelligent way of handling your e-mails, Operas e-mail client is database driven, enabling you to organize and find your e-mails in a matter of seconds through easy searches, labeling, and filtering rather than traditional folder storage.
  5. Tabbed Browsing:

  1. Unix support:
    • On the Linux/Unix front, we are discontinuing support for builds made with gcc 2.95. Also, Sparc Solaris builds are now made on Solaris 10 (with gcc 3) they should run on Solaris 9 as well. If these changes affect you, wed love to hear your feedback.

TinyMe 2007 Test 5

TinyMe 2007 Test 5

TinyMe project exists to create a remaster of PCLinuxOS 2007 that will be quite slimmed down. more>>
TinyMe project exists to create a remaster of PCLinuxOS 2007 that will be quite slimmed down. The target is to get a functioning ~150MB ISO image that can provide a base installation for other MyPCLinuxOS projects, development, playing around, installation to old computers, where a minimal installation is all thats needed, and any other situations where a tiny Linux installation is required or desirable.
We want to create something that can compete with distros like Puppy, DSL, Feather, NimbleX, and PUD for speed and size while maintaining a similar level of functionality through the GUI.
Username/Password:
tiny/tiny
root/root
Enhancements:
- Fixed most open bugs. Only remaining major open bug (in my opinion) is that TinyMe still doesnt auto mount removable media.
- I switched to GDM. This allows us greater flexibility with our login manager. Also, it enables Shutdown and Reboot options on logout.
- AbiWord was installed, with all the plugins your heart desires. Create and edit ODT, DOC, WPD, and many other formats.
- Idesk now handles the desktop instead of PCManFM.
- Enabeled LXPanel transparency.
- Added Grafburn for burning CDs and DVDs. Thanks to Nathan Fisher of Grafpup for Grafburn.
- Created Welcome page. Fire up Opera to see it. (Did I mention Opera handles web browsing, mail, Bittorrent, and IRC chat?)
- Conky is a SuperKaramba-like desktop monitoring applet which has been added. GKrellm was fired. :-)
- Do you like music? Audacious was added. Audacious is a lot like WinAmp and you can use WinAmp themes on it.
- MEdit proved to be somewhat buggy. Although I rather liked it, I opted to use SciTE instead. Enjoy.
- Changed Mrxvt to the default terminal. Mrxvt is a tabbed terminal, plus it has some pretty cool transparency.
- Galculator is a quite small calculator added to test 5.
- Xarchiver has been added for its wonderous abilities to open just about any compressed archive, including RPMs and ISOs.
- MtPaint was added. MtPaint is a very basic picture editor. You can also use MtPaint to take a screenshot.
- XKill has been added and a menu entry created for those balky programs which hang on you.
- Tweaked overall look n feel some more. Added 2 wallpapers (okay, its 1 wallpaper; 1 is 4:3, the other 16:10)

CentOS 5.0

CentOS 5.0

CentOS is an Enterprise-class Linux Distribution. more>>
CentOS is an Enterprise-class Linux Distribution derived from sources freely provided to the public by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor.
CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendors redistribution policy and aims to be 100% binary compatible. (CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork.) CentOS is free, however, we ask for a small contribution. CentOS is a project of the cAos Foundation.
CentOS is developed by a small but growing team of core developers. In turn the core developers are supported by an active user community including system administrators, network administrators, enterprise users, managers, core Linux contributors and Linux enthusiasts from around the world.
CentOS has numerous advantages over some of the other clone projects including: an active and growing user community, quickly rebuilt, tested, and QAed errata packages, an extensive mirror network, developers who are contactable and responsive, multiple free support avenues including IRC Chat, Mailing Lists, Forums, a dynamic FAQ. Commercial support is offered via a number of vendors.
CentOS exists to provide a free enterprise class computing platform to anyone who wishes to use it. CentOS 2 and 3 are fully compatible rebuilds of RHEL 2 and 3 respectively. CentOS 2 and 3 are reproduced from RHEL sources that are freely distributed by RedHat.
Redistributed packages and sources comply fully with RedHats redistribution requirements. CentOS 2 and 3 are designed for people who need an enterprise class OS without the cost, support, certification, or brand name of RedHat.
Main features:
- easy maintenance
- suitability for long term use in production environments
- friendly environment for users and package maintainers
- long-term support of the core
- active development
- community infrastructure
- open management
- open business model
- commercial support - offered by a partner vendor
Enhancements:
- We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of CentOS 5 for the i386 and x86_64 architectures. CentOS 5 is based on the upstream release 5, and includes packages from all variants including Server and Client. All upstream repositories have been combined into one, to make it easier for end users to work with. Major changes in CentOS 5 compared to CentOS 4 include: updated software versions; better desktop support with Compiz and AIGLX; virtualization provided by the Xen hypervisor with Virtual Machine Manager and libvirt; Sabayon to simplify the construction of user profiles.

IRC Collective software contains a parser, with a modular architecture that makes it flexible in the way it can process input and handle output. The output of the parser is primarily used to add to an SQL database that can in turn be queried by, e.g., a Web application (also provided).

The parser can be extended by defining new input formats and output handlers. It can help you stay up to date on the IRC channels that you visit regularly. You can write your own applications on top of the SQL database. You can search past conversations using the Web interface (results will be paged).

xchat-gnome 0.18

xchat-gnome 0.18

xchat-gnome is a new frontend to the popular X-Chat IRC client. more>>
Historically, the OSS desktop has been steadily improving in usability, accessibility, and general slickness, yet the world of IRC clients has not kept up. With IRC being one of the fundamental methods of communication within the open source community, it is bizzare that this area has been neglected.
GNOMEs philosophy in terms of user interfaces has been progressing towards presenting the user with few options, yet sane defaults. While many of the normal X-Chat options will be preserved inside GConf, only the most common settings will be included in the main user interface. The GTK+ frontend provides excessive customizability, with options scattered throughout the interface. This leads to an inconsistent user experience, confusion, and general clutter.
One thing to note is that this project is still extremely young. As such, at the moment is is not extremely trivial to build, run or debug. If anyone is interested in helping out, stop by #xchat-gnome on irc.freenode.net
Enhancements:
- This release has a few important bug fixes.
