HandBrake for Linux 0.9.1

HandBrake for Linux 0.9.1

open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 converter more>> Were chagrined to announce the public release of HandBrake 0.9.1. Why chagrined? Because 0.9.0 wasnt as stable as it should have been, something 0.9.1 rectifies.
This minor update squashes a number of glaring bugs. Most notably, HandBrake will no longer hang at the end of encoding MKV files with chapter markers. This means the Animation, Bedlam, Constant Quality Rate, Deux Six Quatre, Film, and Television presets are now usable.
Additional improvements:
Impressive performance enhancements
Significant interface prettification (Mac more than Win)
Color subtitles now show up in color
Changing dimensions in Picture Settings no longer causes a crash (Mac)
Forced subtitle support
More robust exception handling (Win)
Closing the main window no longer causes HandBrake to crash (Mac)
Using Slow deinterlacing no longer doubles the chapter count.
MPEG Stream support is now case-insensitive (.VOB as well as .vob, etc) and more compatible
No more error messages sent to standard out instead of standard error
Bigger buffer for the activity log (Mac)
Proper display of fading subtitles
On-completion options to shutdown, suspend, etc (Win)
Same as source FPS now works correctly when the end-credits of a progressive film are interlaced.
Add-to-queue fixed (Win)
Target size fixed for the umpteenth time (Mac)

view3dscene 2.1.0

view3dscene 2.1.0

view3dscene project is a viewer for 3D scene files. more>>
view3dscene project is a viewer for 3D scene files.
Main features:
- Two navigation methods are available: Walk (walking like in FPS (Doom, Quake) games, with collision detection, gravity and related features available) and Examine (this allows you to easily rotate and scale the whole model).
- Convertion of 3DS, OBJ and GEO files to VRML 1.0
- You can also simply open and save any VRML 1.0 or 2.0 file and in effect view3dscene will work as a "pretty-printer" for VRML files.
- Built-in ray-tracer (that is also available as a separate command-line program, rayhunter) to generate nice views of the scene (with shadows, mirrors, and transmittance). Classic ray-tracer implements exactly VRML 97 lighting equations.
Supported file formats:
- VRML 1.0 and 2.0. Almost complete VRML 1.0 support is ready. VRML 2.0 (aka VRML 97) support is also done, although some advanced features are missing right now (like prototypes, scripting, interpolators, sensors). VRML files usually have WRL extension.
- See VRML implementation status for detailed list of supported features. See also my extensions to VRML, my VRML test suite, and finally the official VRML specifications.
- Also many OpenInventors 1.0 ASCII files (extension IV) are handled. Mainly its because Inventor 1.0 and VRML 1.0 are very similar formats, but view3dscene handles also some additional Inventor-specific nodes.
- 3d Studio 3DS format. Not every information in 3DS is handled by view3dscene but most important things, like materials, texture coordinates and texture filenames are supported.
- Wavefront OBJ files. Only very basic support : geometry and texture coords. Texture named default_obj_texture.png in the current directory will be used if texture coords are specified in the file.
- GEO. Some simple format; I dont even know what program writes files in this format, it just happened that I had a few files in this format. No, its not Videoscape GEO and its not Houdini GEO.

Marble 0.3

Marble 0.3

Marble is an early beta preview of the Marble Widget application which is targeted for KDE 4. more>>
Marble is an early beta preview of the Marble Widget application which is targeted for KDE 4.
You need to install both packages: "marble" and "marble-data" to run Marble.
Marble is a generic geographical map widget that is meant to be used by KDE4 applications. It shows the earth as a sphere but doesnt make use of any hardware acceleration (No OpenGL). So although it might look similar to professional applications like Google Earth or Nasa World Wind its rather meant to be a small light weight multi purpose widget. To improve speed I decided to compile the Kubuntu packages with SSE support (-msse).
Main features:
- Marble uses a minimal free dataset that can be used offline. Currently the total amount of data that is meant to be shipped is about 5 MB.
- Marble doesnt use OpenGL or 3D hardware acceleration. It just uses Arthur as a painting backend. Extending it later on to support OpenGL as well shouldnt be hard however I dont consider that the primary focus. Depending on your hardware and the maps being displayed framerate is approximately 5-20 fps.
- Marble uses vector as well as bitmap data: Currently it uses the very old MWDB II data combined with ETOPO 2, which I will update to current SRTM soon.
- Marble displays the world map as a 3D sphere, because its more fun to use and less subject to distortion (So with regard to that its just like NASA WorldWind, Earth3D and Google Earth)
- Marble should start up almost instantly. Currently it "cold" starts fully within 2-5 seconds. On each subsequent start it takes about one second.
- Uses KML-Import to display places (Google Earths open format to store placemarks)
- Cities Down to 12000 inhabitants that you can click on using the mouse. Highest Mountains of each continent. Automatic Placemark label placement.
- Different Map Themes, Layers
- Dynamic Coordinate Grid
- Measure Tool
- Basic Wikipedia integration

DropTeam 1.2.2 DEMO

DropTeam 1.2.2 DEMO

DropTeam is an online multiplayer FPS for Linux. more>>
DropTeam is an online multiplayer FPS for Linux.
DropTeam combines accurate physics and ballistic systems, intelligent and realistic unit and weaponry capabilities with fast paced action set in a stark future of humanity. This Public Test is being offered in three different formats. One for Mac, one for Windows and one for Linux. This marks the first title published by Battlefront.com to offer Linux support!
Main features:
- A rich, fleshed out universe complete with a engaging back story and detailed history.
- Realistic combat system that models projectile/armor penetration, various munition types, and interior vehicle damage in detail.
- Huge, detailed and varied alien landscapes each planet accurately modeling its own gravity and atmospheric density, radically changing the tactical situation.
- Map sizes up to a massive 1000 (!) square kilometers.
- Terrain height resolutions from small ridges and vehicle fighting positions to towering hills and mountains.
- Deformable terrain with engineering vehicles digging out trenches in real time, ordnance created surface cratering and even trees toppling over under artillery fire.
- Dynamic environmental effects include building destruction and vehicles exploding and flipping over.
- Support for enhanced graphics effects including advanced shaders and High Dynamic Range rendering.
- Terrain uses dynamic tessellation (continuous Level of Detail) to render high resolution terrain at large sizes.
- Up to 16 human players or more supported, depending on system specs. Maximum online players realistically only limited by game server bandwidth, CPU and RAM.
More background and info on the game can be found on the DropTeam webpage located here.
The purpose of this release is to test DropTeams network functionality with a large number of players. Anyone can play for free in order to help us test DropTeam but this build has the following important restrictions:
1. Single player is disabled. You can only play network games with this release. The full version of the game includes single player skirmish games and a single player campaign.
2. This release only allows you to play 2 scenarios. The full version of the game includes 21 scenarios with more available for free download after release.
3. This is a test release, which means the game isnt finished yet. It definitely still has bugs. We greatly appreciate your help in finding and fixing them all!
Apart from these restrictions, this is a fully functional release. Players can use all of the dozens of vehicles and deployable items in the game. The two included scenarios are "Ice Field" and "Raid". Ice Field takes place on the frozen wasteland of Arcanum, a once-inhabitable planet orbiting Luytens Star that has had its climate devastated by bombardments from the Mu Arae Entente. The Raid scenario takes place on an inhabitable moon called Hopewell. Hopewell orbits a gas giant in the Wolf 9773 star system. Almost half of the moons surface, called "The Scorch", is a radioactive Hell created by the destruction of an antimatter station that used to orbit the gas giant. The remainder of Hopewell has recovered from this disaster and is once again beginning to flourish with vegetation and a growing human population.
This release includes everything needed to connect to servers and play on the Internet or on Local Area Networks on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X Tiger. It also includes everything needed for players to run their own public or private servers. This is important since there will be a limited number of public servers made available by TBG. We plan to run only 6 servers for this public test release so players might need to run their own servers if they want to play frequently.
