A Momonga (aka Pteromys momonga) is a flying squirrel found both in Europe and Asia. Its an animal known for a self-asserting behaviour, despite its small size.
We, at the Momonga Project, like the momonga, may be small and not well-known, but we do express ourselves without fear or favor, so hopefully a new user can feel our enthusiasm and belief from the Momonga Linux that will be released soon.

Whats New in 4 RC1 Development Release:
- Code named "Izumi", the new version is the first Momonga release to introduce DVD spins with either the GNOME or KDE desktops, as well as a minimal installation CD and a 2-DVD "Everything" set. SimplyMEPIS is a ready to go desktop operating system for PCs and Apple computers that have Intel or AMD 32 or 64 bit processors. SimplyMEPIS project is easier than Windows Vista and intuitive for Windows XP and Windows 98 users. MEPIS includes all of the applications that most users need and want. SimplyMEPIS is designed to replace or work side by side with Vista or XP on PCs. MEPIS offers Apple users an opportunity to have it all: OSX, MEPIS 32 and/or 64, and if necessary Windows running in a virtual machine sandbox.

Warren Woodford of MEPIS has built KDE 4 Beta 1 live DVDs to verify the compatibility of KDE 4 with SimplyMEPIS 7.x. Both 32-bit and 64-bit editions are available. They are about 1 GB each and include all of the KDE 4 applications that are working at this time. KDE 4 Beta 1 is a very early release and is meant for developers, testers, and reviewers. The live DVDs were built using a MEPIS 7.0 Etch core and include the usual MEPIS kernel and hardware compatibility features. Since KDE 4 is functionally different than KDE 3 and also in an early beta state, a minimal KDE 3 installation remains on the disk to facilitate exploration by the user.

dvd::rip is a full featured DVD copy program written in Perl. It provides an easy to use but feature-rich Gtk+ GUI to control almost all aspects of the ripping and transcoding process.
dvd::rip project uses the widely known video processing swissknife transcode and many other Open Source tools. dvd::rip itself is licensed under GPL / Perl Artistic License.

MidnightBSD is a FreeBSD 6 fork aimed at providing an easy-to-use desktop experience. MidnightBSD aims to provide a GNUstep desktop with a solid BSD core. MidnightBSD contains both BSD and GPL licensed code.
Enhancements:
- This stable release is based on FreeBSD 6.1 beta and includes many fixes and improvements.
- It uses a command line interface but offers packages for X11, GNUstep, WindowMaker ,and other software.
- Future versions will provide a fully featured desktop environment.

AIPS (Astronomical Information Processing System) handles the processing and display of data from radio interferometers.
Data can be collected from any radio telescope array. Images can be exported in FITS format.
Enhancements:

Cego implements a relational and transactional database system with support for the SQL query language. The current release contains the most common database features for basic table manipulation and data retrieval.

Indexes, foreign keys, views, and stored procedures are also implemented. Future releases (2.0 and above) will support a multi-node database concept with log file shipping for an automatic database application failover.

Java-GNOME application is a set of Java bindings for the GNOME and GTK libraries that allow GNOME and GTK applications to be written in Java.

The Java-Gnome API has been carefully designed to be easy to use, maintaining a good OO paridigm, yet still wrapping the entire functionality of the underlying libraries.

Java-Gnome can be used with the Eclipse development environment and Glade user interface designer to create applications with ease.
