KDE 4 Live CD is a live Linux distribution which contains the KDE 4 development release.

When it comes to stability, scalability and openness there is no competition to UNIX. However, the lack of an easy to use contemporary desktop environment for UNIX has prevented UNIX from finding its way onto the desktops of the typical computer user in offices and homes. UNIX dominates the server market and is the preferred computing platform for computing professional and scientists.

Without UNIX the internet would not be. But UNIX did not address the needs of the average computer user. This fact is particularly unfortunate since a number of implementations of UNIX (Debian GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD etc.) are freely available on the internet. All of which are of exceptional quality and stability.

SystemRescueCd is a Linux system available from a bootable CDROM that provides an easy way to perform administrative tasks on your computer, such as creating and editing the partitions of the hard disk or backing up data.
System Rescue CD contains a lot of system utilities (such as parted, partimage, and fstools), and basic programs (such as editors, midnight commander, and network tools).
It also includes QtParted, a Partition Magic clone that makes editing partitons easy with its Qt graphical user interface. This CDROM aims to be very easy to use and accessible to everybody.

Maemo Live CD is a Knoppix (in fact Kanotix) based Linux distribution that contains a pre-built Maemo Environment as well as scratchbox for developing applications.

Thus the Live CD can be used for demonstrating the Maemo GUI and for developing applications without having to install scratchbox.

Since the Live CD is still alpha quality you might run into one of the issues listed at the bottom of the page.

Usage:

You can use the Live CD just like any Knoppix CD to boot directly into an XFCE desktop with a running Xvnc and a scratchbox terminal. In this terminal you can start the Maemo GUI and applications.

Since version 0.5a it is also possible to work over a TCP/IP network, either between physically connected machines or between a host machine running VMware or Virtual PC. For this purpose, the scratchbox directory is available as samba share, SSH login is allowed and the Maemo GUI is exported via Xvnc.

1 . Boot the Maemo Live-CD. If you do not need the GUI, edit the "kernel" line in grub and add "3" to boot to runlevel 3.
1 . Use your favourite SSH-Client to log in to the Maemo box. Login is "knoppix", password is "maemo".
1 . Set some environment variables: export DISPLAY=localhost:3.0 export LANGUAGE=en_GB
1 . Start the Maemo GUI /scratchbox/login af-sb-init.sh start
1 . Use your favourite VNC-Viewer to connect to Xvnc, do not forget to connect to "ip-address:3", since Xvnc is running on display 3.
1 . A Samba server provides access to /home, /tmp and /scratchbox.

Scientific Linux is a Linux release put together by Fermilab, CERN, and various other labs and universities around the world. Its primary purpose is to reduce duplicated effort of the labs, and to have a common install base for the various experimenters.
The base SL distribution is basically Enterprise Linux, recompiled from source.
Our main goal for the base distribution is to have everything compatible with Enterprise, with only a few minor additions or changes. An example of of items that were added are Pine, and OpenAFS.
Our secondary goal is to allow easy customization for a site, without disturbing the Scientific Linux base. The various labs are able to add their own modifications to their own site areas. By the magic of scripts, and the anaconda installer, each site is to be able to create their own distributions with minimal effort. Or, if a users wishes, they can simply install the base SL release.
The Scientific Linux project, which rebuilds source packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) into a complete RHEL clone, has released a live CD/DVD edition of their latest version for the i386 and x86_64 architectures:
"The Scientific Linux Live CD/DVD is a bootable CD/DVD that runs Linux directly from CD/DVD without installing. It is based on Scientific Linux 4 It uses Unification File System (Unionfs), allowing read-only file system to behave as a writable one and SquashFS providing on-the-fly decompression that allows to store 2GB of software on a normal CD-ROM. The Live CD/DVD was built using modified scripts from Linux-Live."
Enhancements:
- Scientific Linux Live CD 5.0 has been released for i386 and x86_64 architectures. The Scientific Linux Live CD is a bootable CD that runs Scientific Linux directly from CD without installing. New feature: Live CD can be installed to local hard disk. Major software updates compared to Scientific Linux 4 Live CD: Linux kernel 2.6.18, OpenAFS client 1.4.4, X.Org 7.1, 3D desktop with Compiz and AIGLX, GNOME 2.16.0, OpenOffice.org 2.0.4, Firefox 1.5. Pyro stands for Python Robotics. The goal of the project is to provide a programming environment for easily exploring advanced topics in artificial intelligence and robotics without having to worry about the low-level details of the underlying hardware. That is not to say that Pyro is just a toy. In fact, Pyro is used for real robotics research as well as courseware.

Robots: Currently, the robots supported include the Pioneer family (Pioneer, Pioneer2, PeopleBot robots), the Khepera family (Khepera, Khepera 2 and Hemisson robots), the AIBO, the IntelliBrain-Bot, and the Roomba.

Simulators: Pyro is integrated with several existing robot simulators including Robocup Soccer, Player/Stage, Gazebo and the Khepera simulator.
