GAMGI 0.13.14

GAMGI 0.13.14

GAMGI is a program to build, view, and analyze atomic strucures. more>>

GAMGI 0.13.14 is an all-in-one program which can build, view, and analyze atomic structures, as powerful and simple to use as possible.

GAMGI aims to be useful for:

  • The scientific community working in atomistic modeling, who needs a graphic interface to build and analyse atomic structures
  • The scientific community at large, who needs a graphic interface to study atomic structures and to prepare images for presentations
  • Teaching the atomic structure of matter in schools and universities, even inviting students to run GAMGI at home
  • Science promotion, in exhibitions and science museums.

Enhancements:

  • Fixed a couple of bugs in chem and gtk code, including a nasty brown paper bag that crashed the new polytope code in many systems.
  • Everything that can be measured with Atom->Measure can now be modified with the new Atom->Modify dialog.
  • The oldest dialog in Gamgi, Group->Modify, has been replaced by an entirely different dialog, to modify Groups, including polytopes.
  • Added bond cleaning when creating Polytopes and improved this cleaning for Planes and Directions.
  • Improved layout for View page in Atom->Create and Atom->Modify. Variance is now a combo box entry, with 0.0 and 1.0 suggestions.
  • Improved layout for View page in Bond->Modify and Atom->Modify.
  • Fixed position for Autonomy combo box in Plane->Modify and Direction->Modify dialogs.
  • Completed interface behaviour in Group->Modify dialog.
  • Improved Scale behaviour in Group->Modify, Plane->Modify, Direction->Modify dialogs.
  • Replaced Property by Quantity in Plane->Measure and Direction->Measure dialogs.
  • Designed and implemented the new Group->Modify dialog.
  • Modifying atom-2atom distances is now working fine. All the quantities that can be measured with Atom->Measure can now be modified with the new dialog Atom->Modify.
  • Modifying atom-direction distances is now working fine.
  • Modifying atom-3atom distances is now working fine.
  • Modifying atom-plane distances is now working fine for all cases.
  • Fixed a old bug when modifying a torsion angle: the terminal branches of the second atom should change as well, not just the first atom and its terminal branches.
  • The only task dialog in GAMGI still from the first generation, Group->Modify, has been removed. It will be replaced soon by a dialog handling Polytopes, among other things.
  • All the functionality previously available in Group->Modify is now available in Atom->Modify, in the mode Geometry.
  • Completed all the GTK code for the new Atom->Modify dialog.
  • The new Atom->Modify dialog will be used to set all the quantities that are measured in Atom->Measure, replacing the old Group->Modify dialog that will be used to modify Group objects such as polytopes.
  • The new Atom->Modify dialog is almost finished: removed a sync bug resulting in a GTK warning.
  • Found and removed a bug in gamgi_chem_geometry.c: sequence array off limits by 1, for bond angles.
  • Removed all warnings at -O3 compilation level, on Fedora 9.
  • Found and removed a crashing bug in gamgi_chem_polytope.c: in static_vertex_create, first total should not be there.
  • Found and removed a bug in gamgi_gtk_atom_modify.c: when style changes, update draw, not atom->draw.
  • Designed the new Group->Modify dialog: based on Atom->Measure and Group->Create, the first page has radio buttons to jump between the two sets of pages (Atoms and Polytope). Opens initially in one of the two sets (Atoms), in the second page, to preserve a rule always followed in GAMGI GUIs: users are required to fill only the starting visible notebook page, all the others are optional or have suitable defaults.

Requirements:

  • Hardware requirements:
    • To run properly, GAMGI requires a graphics environment with with at least 16 bits per pixel, otherwise object selection with the mouse does not work, and using GAMGI becomes much more difficult.
    • GAMGI requires a 3-button mouse to work properly, as the mouse buttons are one of the ways to rotate, move and scale objects. With a 2-button mouse, users can configure the button order for example to discard scale and use move and rotate modes only.
  • Software requirements:
    • GAMGI can be installed on any computer running Linux/Unix with the standard X Window System. GAMGI requires the following libraries: Glib/Gtk, Mesa, Gtkglarea, Expat and Freetype.
    • GAMGI should run with any version of Glib/Gtk 1, but does not even compile with Glib/Gtk 2. GAMGI should run with any version of Mesa or OpenGL, though a recent release is recommended, due to some bugs. GAMGI should run with any version of Gtkglarea 1. GAMGI should run with any version of Expat. GAMGI should run with any version of Freetype 2, but does not even compile with Freetype 1.

MirBSD Korn Shell R30

MirBSD Korn Shell R30

MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell). more>>
MirBSD Korn Shell (mksh) is an actively developed successor of pdksh (the Public Domain Korn Shell), aimed at producing a shell good for interactive use, but with primary focus on scripting.
The project is intended to be portable to most *nix-like operating systems as long as theyre not too obscure. mksh incorporates improvements from OpenBSD and Debian, as well as bugfixes and enhancements developed for the MirOS and FreeWRT projects. The emacs command line editing mode is UTF-8 capable.
The shell supports large files, as well as all pdksh and some csh, AT&T ksh, and GNU bash features, is compatible with the Bourne shell (within limits, but you can turn off brace expansion), has no limit on array sizes, and incorporates some other useful builtins and features. While being already fast and small (without losing functionality), flags to make it even smaller can be given at compile time. An interactive shell reads "~/.mkshrc" on startup.
Enhancements:
- Packagers should read the information at http://www.mirbsd.org/mksh.htm#upgrade.
- mksh can now be built on more platforms, such as AIX, and with a lot of vendor compilers (Intel, Sun, IBM, Microsoft, Borland, Digital Mars, HP) in addition to gcc.
- Some constructs from GNU bash are supported.
- The code and build system got cleaned up, fixed, and improved further.
- Large file support on some OSes and POSIX compatibility got better.

Web100 2.5.16

Web100 2.5.16

Web100 project was created to produce a complete host-software environment that will run common TCP applications. more>>
Web100 project was created to produce a complete host-software environment that will run common TCP applications at 100% of the available bandwidth, regardless of the magnitude of a networks capability.
While the national high-performance network infrastructure has grown tremendously both in bandwidth and accessibility, it is still common for applications, hosts, researchers and other users to be unable to take full advantage of this new and improved infrastructure.
Without expert attention from network engineers, users are unlikely to achieve even 10 Mbps single stream TCP transfers, despite the fact that the underlying network infrastructure can support data rates of 100Mbps or more.
On unloaded networks, this poor performance can be attributed primarily to two factors: host system software (principally TCP) that is optimized for low bandwidth environments, and the lack of effective instrumentation and tools to diagnose performance issues.
The Web100 project was created to address these problems. The first is addressed with automatic TCP buffer tuning. The Web100 work in this area has been merged with main-line Linux kernel, and is contained in recent releases.
To address the other problem, we have created a set of TCP instruments, defined in an IETF internet-draft. These instruments are implemented in Linux with the Web100 kernel patch.
Enhancements:
- This release has limited slow-start capability.
- It has been updated for 2.6.22.

Rats! 1.12.0

Rats! 1.12.0

Rats! is an easily extensible parser generator for C-like languages. more>>
Rats! is an easily extensible parser generator for C-like languages; though currently it only generates parsers in Java. Rats! project has been explicitly designed so that grammars are concise and easily modifiable. To this end, Rats!
- organizes grammars into modules,
- builds on parsing expression grammars instead of context-free grammars and vintegrates lexing with parsing, i.e., is scannerless,
- supports the automatic generation of abstract syntax trees,
- and provides a well-defined interface for extending parsers to recognize context-sensitive languages and formats.
Parsers generated by Rats! memoize intermediate results, which ensures linear time performance in the presence of unlimited lookahead and backtracking. As a result, they are essentially functional (even though they are implemented in an imperative language) and also called "packrat parsers."
Main features:
- Rats! relies on a module system to structure grammars and their extensions. In particular, it relies on modules to group related productions into separate units. Next, module modifications concisely express extensions to other modules and can add, change, or remove individual alternatives in productions. Finally, module parameters are used to compose modules and their extensions with each other.
- Rats! grammars build on parsing expression grammars (PEGs). While PEGs share many constructs with the familiar EBNF notation, a key difference is that they utilize ordered choices instead of the unordered choices used by context-free grammars (CFGs) and other parser generators, such as Yacc or ANTLR. As a result, Rats! grammars avoid ambiguities and support localized changes. Additional flexibility is offered through syntactic predicates, which match expressions but do not consume the input, thus providing unlimited lookahead, and through the integration of lexing with parsing, which greatly simplifies the addition of new tokens to a grammar. PEGs have the additional benefit that they are not only closed under composition (unlike the LR or LL grammars used by Yacc and ANTLR), but also intersection and complement (unlike CFGs in general).
- To eliminate the need for explicit semantic actions, Rats! can automatically generate abstract syntax trees. In particular, it supports productions that return no semantic values (such as those recognizing spaces or comments), string values (such as those recognizing literals or identifiers), and generic tree nodes (potentially all other productions).
- Since some computer-readable formats are inherently context-sensitive and cannot be expressed as PEGs (or CFGs), Rats! supports two techniques for managing parser context or state, thus providing a well-defined interface for extending parsers. First, Rats! provides parser actions to recognize expressions that depend on local context, i.e., expressions that depend on immediately preceding expressions within the same production. An example for such local context is an explicit length preceding as many instances of some expression. Second, Rats! supports a global state object to recognize expressions that depend on possibly global context. State modifications are performed within lightweight transactions, which preserve the basically functional nature of Rats!-generated parsers. An example for a global context is the symbol table used for disambiguating variable and typedef names when parsing C.
Enhancements:
- Release highlights are support for formatting-preserving source refactorings through parse trees, support for parsing and pretty printing Java 5, (an improved abstract syntax tree for Java, and improved support for type checking C and Java ASTs.

Acme::EyeDrops 1.51

Acme::EyeDrops 1.51

Acme::EyeDrops is a Perl module for visual programming in Perl. more>>
Acme::EyeDrops is a Perl module for visual programming in Perl.

SYNOPSIS

use Acme::EyeDrops qw(sightly);

print sightly( { Shape => camel,
SourceFile => eyesore.pl } );

Acme::EyeDrops converts a Perl program into an equivalent one, but without all those unsightly letters and numbers.

In a Visual Programming breakthrough, EyeDrops allows you to pour the generated program into various shapes, such as UML diagrams, enabling you to instantly understand how the program works just by glancing at its new and improved visual representation.

Unlike Acme::Bleach and Acme::Buffy, the generated program runs without requiring that Acme::EyeDrops be installed on the target system.

EXAMPLES

Getting Started

Suppose you have a program, helloworld.pl, consisting of:

print "hello worldn";

To convert this little program into an equivalent camel-shaped one, create cvt.pl as follows:

# cvt.pl. Convert helloworld.pl into a camel shape.
use Acme::EyeDrops qw(sightly);
print sightly( { Shape => camel,
SourceFile => helloworld.pl,
Regex => 1 } );

Then run it like this:

perl cvt.pl >new.pl

After inspecting the newly created program, new.pl, to verify that it does indeed resemble a camel, run it:

perl new.pl

to confirm it behaves identically to the original helloworld.pl.

Instead of using the API, as shown above, you may find it more convenient to use the sightly.pl command in the demo directory:

sightly.pl -h (for help)
sightly.pl -s camel -f helloworld.pl -r >new.pl
cat new.pl (should look like a camel)
perl new.pl (should print "hello world" as before)

Notice that the shape camel is just the file camel.eye in the EyeDrops sub-directory underneath where EyeDrops.pm is located, so you are free to add your own new shapes as required.

For the meaning of Regex => 1 above, see the Just another Perl hacker section below.
