Free multimedia software for linux

EiffelMedia is a multimedia library for Eiffel. The library allows you to use 2D and 3D graphics, sound, networking, and input via joystick and keyboard. EiffelMedia has many smaller frameworks that make life easier for a multimedia or game programmer.

OpenVIP software is a flexible video-processing tool for Unix. It consists of two parts:
1. OpenVIP core, which is written in C/C++. You can use it either as a library linked with your code, or as a standalone application for batch processing of multimedia files (you specify what to do in a XML file).
2. OpenVIP GUI written in Python, which provides a user-friendly interface to the core. It is based on the timeline concept: You place multimedia files on the timeline and apply various filters and transitions on them.
Main features:
- Support for a wide range of multimedia files (and codecs) including AVI, MPEG, MP3. We use libraries from the ffmpeg project for reading and writing files. It is also possible to read AVI files using native codecs under Windows.
- A lot of nice plugins including colour transformations, geometric distortions, basic sound processing and transitions between two movies. See the online HTML documentation for screenshots.
- Simple interface for including your own plugins written in C/C++. It is described in the comprehensive Developers Documentation.

Feng is a multimedia streaming server compliant with the IETFs standards for real-time streaming of multimedia contents over Internet. The project implements RTSP – Real-Time Streaming Protocol (rfc2326) and RTP/RTCP – Real-Time Transport Protocol/RTP Control Protocol (rfc3550) supporting the RTP Profile for Audio and Video Conferences with Minimal Control (rfc3551).

Feng supports the following encoding standards:

The main characteristic of Feng are the container support, the ability to handle seeking (not exposed to the rtsp layer but used internally for the compositor metademuxer) and the modular structure focused to ease the extension of the codec and the protocol support.

GNU EMMS is the Emacs Multimedia System. It tries to be a clean and small application to play multimedia files from Emacs using external players. Many of its ideas are derived from MpthreePlayer , but it tries to be more general and cleaner.
The fact that EMMS is based on external players makes it powerful, because it supports all formats that those players support, with no effort from your side.

EduKT, a multimedia content builder, which allows easly create interactive books with graphics, music, text and -off course- buttons events.

The goal is offer a simple solution for multimedia presentations/works/books for kids, teachers or simple users.

EduKT is a multiplatform software develop on Python, GTk and Glade.

GMiMMS is a frontend to MiMMS (Multimedia Stream ripper). It uses GTK+-2.x for the graphical userinterface. It is mainly written for Linux but should also be able to be compiled for Windows.
The GMiMMS project is very easy to be used. You just specify the Multimedia-Stream URL and the output file and GMiMMS runs MiMMS in an other thread. You can also specify the mms-method and the length of the recording in minutes.

PiTiVi is a non-linear audio/video editor for GNU/Linux using the GStreamer multimedia framework.
The GStreamer and PiTiVi team are pleased to announce a new pre-release of PiTiVi.
This release is in beta state, may suffer from hangs and is not yet ready for production. Transcoding/Encoding works though for files.
This release is also the last version based on the 0.8.x GStreamer series. Work is now aimed at the 0.9/0.10 series.
