DARE 1.0
DARE is a small Linux kernel patch to VFS (Virtual Filesystem). more>>
DARE is a small Linux kernel patch to VFS (Virtual Filesystem) which transparently moves files into a special directory on each filesystem instead of removing them. DARE works similar like Novell Netware Data Recovery or MS Windows Recycle Bin.
DARE is independent on filesystem type, so it can be used without constraints on almost every filesystem. Deleted files are collected in directory deleted on the filesystem root dir. This directory have to be created manualy on each filesystem on which you want the DARE functionality. Filesystem without directory deleted works without DARE.
Deleted files are grouped into subdirectories by N hours. The N is configurable at the kernel compiling time. This simplifies removing of old deleted files from directory deleted. Subdirectories are named numericaly by UNIX time. Aditionaly to each subdirectory, an informational file is created.
This file is named the same way as corresponding subdirectory and aditionaly the file has suffix .inf. Informational file contains informations about deleted files, directories, special files including original pathname, permissions, deletion time and id of user who deleted this file.
There are also user space utilities for dealing with deleted files and content of directory deleted. There are these utilities:
lsdel - list of files deleted in actual directory
salvage - recovery deleted files
purge - utterly remove deleted files
deleted - daemon watching disks free space and removing old deleted files to keep disk free space in defined boundaries.

Linux trustees 3.0
Linux trustees is an advanced file permission system for Linux more>>
The main goal of the Linux Trustees project is to create an advanced permission management system for Linux. The solution proposed is mainly inspired by the approach taken by Novell Netware and the Java security API.
Special objects (called trustees) can be bound to every file or directory. The trustee object can be used to ensure that access to a file, directory, or directory with subdirectories is granted (or denied) to a certain user or group (or all except user or group).
Trustees are like POSIX ACLs, but trustee objects can affect entire subdirectory trees, while ACLs a single file. Trustees works with the 2.6 Linux kernel.

NetXMS 0.2.18
NetXMS is a monitoring system with a modular architecture. more>>
NetXMS is new and rapidly developing monitoring system, released under GPL2 license. NetXMS project can be used for monitoring entire IT infrastructure, starting with SNMP-capable hardware (like switches and routers) and ending with applications on your servers. NetXMS is an extremely reliable and powerful monitoring system, enabling you to improve your network availability and service levels.
The system has three-tier architecture: the information is collected by monitoring agents (either our own high-performance agents or SNMP agents) and delivered to monitoring server for processing and storing. Network administrator can access collected data using Windows-based Management Console, WEB Interface or Management Console for PocketPC.
Having been designed with flexibility and scalability in mind, NetXMS features a wide range of supported platforms, leaving you the freedom of choice of platform(s) for your network. NetXMS Server, the core system, is currently available for Windows NT/2000/2003/XP, Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD.
High-performance modular monitoring Agents are available for the same platforms as well as for OpenBSD, NetBSD, NetWare, HP-UX and AIX. NetXMS currently supports the following databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL and Oracle. Due to the modular structure of the system, support for other SQL databases can be added upon request in a matter of days.
Main features:
- NetXMS allows monitoring network devices, servers and applications from one management server
- Configuration and access to monitoring data take place through the user-friendly and customizable Windows-based GUI
- NetXMS ability to send e-mails and SMS notifications, or execute external programs as a reaction to any event, enables you to receive warning notifications based on collected values
- Ability to organize monitored objects into hierarchical structure to represent service dependencies
- Centralized agent upgrade
- Layer 3 IP topology autodiscovery
- Portable client library
- Very flexible event processing
- Remote actions
- Flexible access control configuration
Enhancements:
- This is mostly a bugfix release.
- Multiple compatibility problems were fixed (mostly on FreeBSD and OpenSolaris).
- Web interface stability was improved.
- Support for non-English Windows versions was added to the winperf subagent.

Thin FTP Applet 1.04
Thin FTP Applet is a full featured File Transfer Program that can be easily integrated into your website or web application. more>>
Thin FTP Applet is a full featured File Transfer Program that can be easily integrated into your website or web application.
You can use it to carry out recursive folder uploads and downloads. Entire directory trees being transfered in single click. Interrupted transfers can be resumed.
Thats not all that the applet can do, it can be used to rename, delete and change permissions of file and folders and do almost anything that you can do with your favourite desktop FTP client.
Even though Thin FTP is a web client, its appearence is no different from the traditional 2-Table interface found on many desktop clients. Because Thin FTP is an applet, it does not need to refresh itself each time a file transfer or any other operation takes place.
The Profession Edition provides even tighter integration with existing web applications by allowing for automatic login.
Enhancements:
- Compatibility issues with OS X and Netware FTP servers and the pure-ftpd server on Linux have been addressed.

onesixtyone SNMP scanner 0.3.2
onesixtyone is an efficient SNMP scanner which utilizes a sweep technique to achieve extreme performance. more>>
onesixtyone is an efficient SNMP scanner which utilizes a sweep technique to achieve extreme performance. The SNMP protocol is a stateless, datagram oriented protocol. An SNMP scanner is a program that sends SNMP requests to multiple IP addresses, trying different community strings and waiting for a reply. Unfortunately SNMP servers dont respond to requests with invalid community strings and the underlying UDP protocol does not reliably report closed UDP ports. This means that no response from the probed IP address can mean either of the following:
machine unreachable
SNMP server not running
invalid community string
the response datagram has not yet arrived
The approach taken by most SNMP scanners is to send the request, wait for n seconds and assume that the community string is invalid. If only 1 of every hundred scanned IP addresses responds to the SNMP request, the scanner will spend 99*n seconds waiting for replies that will never come.
Thats why traditional SNMP scanners are very inefficient.
onesixtyone takes a different approach to SNMP scanning. It takes advantage of the fact that SNMP is a connectionless protocol and sends all SNMP requests as fast as it can. Then the scanner waits for responses to come back and logs them, in a fashion similar to Nmap ping sweeps. By default onesixtyone waits for 10 milliseconds between sending packets, which is adequate for 100Mbs switched networks. The user can adjust this value via the -w command line option. If set to 0, the scanner will send packets as fast as the kernel would accept them, which may lead to packet drop.
Running onesixtyone on a class B network (switched 100Mbs with 1Gbs backbone) with -w 10 gives us a performance of 3 seconds per class C, with no dropped packets. All 65536 IP addresses were scanned in less than 13 minutes.
onesixtyone sends a request for the system.sysDescr.0 value, which is present on almost all SNMP enabled devices. This returned value gives us a description of the system software running on the device. Here is an excert of a log file:

RRDTool 1.2.21 / 1.3 Beta 1
RRD is a system to store and display time-series data. more>>
RRD is the Acronym for Round Robin Database. RRD is a system to store and display time-series data (i.e. network bandwidth, machine-room temperature, server load average).
RRDTool project stores the data in a very compact way that will not expand over time, and it presents useful graphs by processing the data to enforce a certain data density.
It can be used either via simple wrapper scripts (from shell or Perl) or via frontends that poll network devices and put a friendly user interface on it.
Whats New in 1.2.21 Stable Release:
- More graph config options.
- An ABS operator for CDEF.
- Several segfaults have been fixed.
- More robust Ruby and Python extension builds.
- Netware and Win32 Makefile updates.
Whats New in 1.3 Beta 1 Development Release:
- Performance was improved with memory mapped IO, fadvise, and madvise.
- Graphing was enhanced by using cairo and pango.

Linux Snipes 0.9.4
Linux Snipes project is a text-based maze game based on an old DOS game. more>>
Linux Snipes project is a text-based maze game based on an old DOS game.
You are in a maze with a number of enemies (the "snipes") and a few "hives" which create more of the enemies.
Your job is to kill the snipes and their hives before they get the best of you. 26 "option levels" let you change characteristics of the game such as whether or not diagonal shots bounce off the walls. 10 levels of difficulty (only partially implemented) let you build your skills gradually.
Normal game play is done on the text-mode console. Playing in an xterm or over a telnet connection is possible, but restricts you to pressing one key at a time. As a result, you cant move and fire at the same time, and you cant move or fire diagonally. NEW: There is now native X support, but it is somewhat slow.
Unlike the version of Snipes included in NetWare 2.x and NetWare Lite, this version does not currently include network/multiplayer support. Network support will probably be added at some point in the future.
Enhancements:
- Keyboard mapping for raw keyboard mode is now determined by calling dumpkeys(1).
- This is a fix for Debian bug #37662. Note that it will not give optimal results with Dvorak key mappings, for example. Also, it means that dumpkeys(1) is required for raw keyboard mode to work, but I assume that dumpkeys(1) is provided with most linux distributions. Finally, this is untested on any machine other than my personal intel box.

Apache HTTP Server is a free software/open source HTTP web server for Unix-like systems (BSD, Linux, and UNIX systems), Microsoft Windows, Novell NetWare and other platforms. Apache is notable for playing a key role in the initial growth of the World Wide Web, and continues to be the most popular web server in use, serving as the reference platform against which other web servers are designed and judged.
Apache features highly configurable error messages, DBMS-based authentication databases, and content negotiation. It is also supported by several graphical user interfaces (GUIs) which permit easier, more intuitive configuration of the server.
The Apache HTTP Server is developed and maintained by an open community of developers under the auspices of the Apache Software Foundation.

pam_mount module 0.19
pam_mount is a Pluggable Authentication Module that can mount volumes for a user session. more>>
pam_mount is a Pluggable Authentication Module that can mount volumes for a user session.
This module is aimed at environments with SMB (Samba or Windows NT) or NCP (Netware or Mars-NWE) servers that Unix users wish to access transparently. It facilitates access to private volumes of these types well.
The module also supports mounting home directories using loopback encrypted filesystems. The module was originally written for use on the GNU/Linux operating system but has since been modified to work on several flavors of BSD.
- Every user can access his own volumes
- The user needs to type the password just once (at login)
- The mounting process is transparent to the users
- There is no need to keep the login passwords in any additional file
- The volumes are unmounted upon logout, so it saves system resources, avoiding the need of listing every every possibly useful remote volume in /etc/fstab or in an automount/supermount config file. This is also necessary for securing encrypted filesystems.
pam_mount "understands" SMB, NCP, and any type of filesystem that can be mounted using the standard mount command. If someone has a particular need for a different filesystem, feel free to ask me to include it and send me patches.
If you intend to use pam_mount to protect volumes on your computer using an encrypted filesystem system, please know that there are many other issues you need to consider in order to protect your data.
For example, you probably want to disable or encrypt your swap partition (the cryptoswap can help you do this). Dont assume a system is secure without carefully considering potential threats.
Enhancements:
- pam_mount now uses an XML config file, which also has a few new variables and options.
- Support for truecrypt was added.

Enhancements:
- Fix CAN-2005-0013 and CAN-2005-0014.
- Fix CAN-2005-0013: Run with euid == uid for most of time, and switch to euid == 0 only when really needed.
- And although previous change decreases impact of CAN-2005-0014, lets fix random small static character arrays too.
- And when modprobe is spawned (on 2.0.x kernel), start it with empty environment.

Moodle 1.7
Moodle is a course management system for distance education. more>>
Moodle is a course management system (CMS) - a software package designed to help educators create quality online courses. Such e-learning systems are sometimes also called Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Virtual Learning Environments (VLE). One of the main advantages of Moodle over other systems is a strong grounding in social constructionist pedagogy.
Moodle is Open Source software, which means you are free to download it, use it, modify it and even distribute it (under the terms of the GNU General Public License). Moodle runs without modification on Unix, Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, Netware and any other system that supports PHP, including most webhost providers. Data is stored in a single database: MySQL and PostgreSQL are best supported, but it can also be used with Oracle, Access, Interbase, ODBC and others.
Moodle has 50 language packs, including: Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK and US versions), Finnish, French (France and Canada versions), German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Maori, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.
Main features:
- Overall design of Moodle
- Site management
- User management
- Course management
- Auto-linking
- Mathematics notation
- Media plugins
- Multi-language content
- An "Upload File" assignment
- An "Offline" assignment
- A "Repeating" chat with public session logs
- A "Open" chat event
- A Choice with anonymous results
- A Choice with non-anonymous results
- A Choice that allows you to update anytime
- A Standard forum for general use
- Each person posts one discussion
- A single discussion
- Teacher-Defined Glossary
- Learner-Defined Glossary
- A glossary of common terms
- A graded journal
Enhancements:
- The four big headline features are Roles (a complete new architecture for assigning people permissions), the XML database schema (which now supports a wider range of databases), a new admin interface (designed to make it much easier to find settings and configure Moodle properly), and the Unit testing framework (which allows developers to write unit tests that can be run as part of a system check to make sure Moodle code is performing as expected).
